No thanks, I won't be betting, not having ANY knowledge of the claims being made by the participants.
By:
Let's discuss the current bet Alun.
You up for putting up £10,000, £2000 not being interesting enough for you. |
By:
No. I won't be betting thanks, for the reasons I gave above. I only bet on activities I have some knowledge of. Hope that helps.
By:
So chirp up about someone elses bet and the participants not being interesting enough.
Then scuttle off when asked to make it more interesting. Typical |

I will put some money down and I am backing EO.

And paddletoe never welshes on a bet.

21 Dec 14 19:25 Why don't you put up £10,000 as a side bet Alun, give the forum the potential for some outside bets? I don't exaggerate about my life. But, once EO has proven who he is, I'll stake £10k that I'm not him. |

4thjuly
Sorry 4th but that isn't the case with either. For the police I seem to remember at my passing out parade which was in 98 all we got was our warrant cards and in relation to the fire we got bugger all but my pay slips or pension statement for the fire are current. Let's be serious here though. If I stick my other certificates up you can't seriously think I'd be providing proof of my service as a cleaner for those organisations. In relation to the Bar I joined Gray's Inn priror to attending and had to dine a certain number of times as part of the deal. I was also presented with a book on being called which is a history of the Inn. It has a stamped authentication saying that it was presented on call to the Bar. Whilst the Bar Finals is a vocational course that year spent at the Inns Of Court School Of law is an academic one. You then spend a year as a pupil of a Barrister to complete the vocational aspect. I' not suggesting you aren't goig to fulfill the deal but I want to be clear before we do this that we agree on what is being provided. |
By:
Okay, I will stay out of this now EO is back.
By:
Not back as such paddle. I'll be in and out as my sister and her husband arrived today for Christmas but if there's a couple of grand on the table I'll definitely be sorting this little beauty out if I can.

I wish to be clear
Police are given a certificate of accreditation of passing the police college exam. My Brother is a serving policeman and has verified this is the case and was in 98, I want to see yours please. I will check with the fire service in the Am. The BCTP is a vocational thing, working for 12 months at an Inn of Court. It's for students who can't get pupillage as far as I am aware, a certificate is provided on completion of the one year. That cert would be sufficient. Again I will check in the AM So we are getting closer to the bet. |
By:
Current council tax bill is ok of course.
By:
I can buy one of those law books stamped 'call to the bar' on Ebay
By:
Wildys are selling it
By:
BCTP part time is a two year course. Again a certificate is given.
By:
Well I have confidence in my main man EO but I wish you both good luck.
By:
Let me get this straight. 14 in '79,
20 years a nurse, whilst at the same time studying for the law degree you have, 98 a policeman. Something is not adding up here. Just talking to myself about conversations I have had in the past on this forum. Carry on. |
By:
Just out of curiosity. What odds would you have given me 4thJuly. I am sure you did not take even money on Arsenal today and if I was looking even money on a bet we could toss coins.
I would only have been interested at the right price and as much as I like EO I would be looking bigger odds than evens for something you state by your own admission is very improbable but every favourite gets beat in its turn and long shots win every day. |
By:
Btw, glad to see you back Melanus and not as insane as we all thought. Nice little set up.
By:
If I was willing to give odds I would have posted them.
Meanwhile there is a poster of your ilk thinks the bet is not interesting enough. Ask him |
By:
EO is the only person who knows with certainty the result so its a bet to nothing for him.
For everyone else its a matter of opinion and you don't seem very confident in your opinion if your only offering a punter a chance to double their money on what you reckon is a 100/1 shot. |

I'll give you an exact chronology 4th. I started training as a nurse in 84 and qualified in 88. I worked in general medicine and ITU/Coronary Care until I left in 91. I was at Uni for 3 years until 94 and then I was at the Inns Of Court 94-5. My nursing registation was valid during this period and I continued working to help fund my way through. I then started lecturing for myself with a small amount of FE college outsourced work. I joined the police in 98 and at the end of that year we had a car crash and my wife had to stop work as a nurse and I spent a few years full time looking after her. As she began to improve in 07 I joined the fire as a retained fireman and have stayed there until this day.
As for the police I'm not going to call your relation a liar but I have nothing like that but like I said I get a statement from them relating to my pension both from then and the NHS which I transfered in. I'll quote from one of these statements: With reference to your recent enquiry, I can confirm that when you left Greater Manchester Police .......... If that is enough just let me know. If not we have reached a problem. As for the Bar Finals course it will be news to my mate that it was for people who couldn't get pupillage because it is complete nonsense. As I said it is a prelude to going on to pupillage. |

Absolutely great record of employment E0. Far better than mine. That's for sure.
By:
100/1 shot. Where is that posted?
But besides what a good bookmaker I am, laying evens a 100/1 shot. Now why don't you leave us to it instead of keep poking your snout in?, you've wished us both good luck several posts ago. I am not really interested in your opinions on the subject. |

Paddletoe working as the decoy for Larry, i suspect Larry is in trouble here and Paddletoe is the agent trained to lead thejulykid away by suggesting he is the one and only menelaus.
I am enjoying this episode. |

okay, okay, I wont say another word on this thread. Just did not like the way you have tried to set up a nice person in such a way.
No hard feelings though. |
By:
Sorry angel Gabriel I cant answer your post as I will honour my word of not sticking my nose in where its not appreciated by some people. Just wished to give you the courtesy of a reply Angel as I like you.

I've never for one minute thought 4thjuly was any other poster least of all Melly or Mad Lad. I wouldn't have contemplated putting myself out for those two jokers. From what I've seen I believe 4thjuly is a fair and honest poster and I look forward to sorting out this bet.

Sorry, yes BCTP is a course prelude to pupillage for those who couldn't get pupillage in chambers when called to the bar. As you know it is an insidious profession, but if Daddy is in chambers your pupillage will be sponsored no doubt. But the completion of the BCTP comes with a certificate not just a book presented at a dinner.
There is an accreditation for passing the police college exam and for £2000, I think I am entitled to ask for proof of that. In fact as the bet was called I don't see why I can't see all proof, add the pension letters as an extra. We all know for £2000 I could get a mans life story and employment history made up. I am sorry for your wifes continuing problems, never have I questioned her incapacity. We'll get there though. |

I have just had an email from Betfair.
In no uncertain terms they have told me they do not condone members having private bets via the forum !!!!! I am threatened with a ban FFS. |
By:
You didn't read what I wrote 4thjuly. I said I have my certificate of completion. You asked which Inn I belonged to and I told you it was Gray's and in addition to my certificate I was presented with a Gray's Inn Prospectus. I'm sorry you are wrong about the Inns Of Court. You had to complete a series of examinations in several subjects like Civil and Criminal Litigation. From memory there were about 12 of these. You cannot do pupilage unless you complete this academic stage first.
Of course you could get something made up as you say but I doubt you could get it made up on a sunday night. I'm getting the impression Im being led up the garden path at this stage. I'm offering ou what I have which includes current wage slips. Let me know if this is acceptable. I can't give you what I don't have. |
By:
I'd like to give you the beenfit of the doubt here 4thjuly but I fear you've done me up like a kipper here. Betfair never emailed Melly when he was giving it the big one.
By:
I don't make bets on stuff like this unless I know I'm right before I start, a pal of mine never learned that one no matter how much money I took off him lol, so 4th could be on to a hiding but if both parties are willing to put their money where their mouth is and honour the bet and put their hands up to being wrong then respect to those involved.
I know nothing about law etc so I would have to google how to prove that, but I have a feeling there might be arguments about level of proof. |

At the end of the first six months, a pupil needs to have the pupil supervisor sign a certificate confirming satisfactory completion and send it to the Bar Council. The pupil receives a Provisional Qualification Certificate. At the end of the second six months, the pupil's supervisor must certify another document for satisfactory completion and send it to the Bar Council Education and Training Department. The pupil will then receive a Full Qualification Certificate.
Sorry I didn't read 'call to the bar' certificate as the above because you didn't say that is what it is. At no time did you mention certificate of completion until now. And the Police cert for passing the police examination is a must. Sorry, I understand you cannot provide what you don't have but you wouldn't expect me to honour a bet without the proof. But until I speak to Betfair in the morning I don't know what to think. I will post an update. |
By:
I couldn't care less about your benefit of the doubt. I don't care if Betfair emailed or didn't another poster.
Betfair have emailed me. It is I who feels done up like a kipper. I am convinced I am correct. But I will talk to Betfair in the morning. Does not stop me having a bet, just not via Betfair. |

I know this against the gamblers ethos but I just wanna see who's right and who's wrong, on something like this I'm more like the old guys in Trading Places , bet for a dollar and it's all about the win or lose.
By:
I'm just saying if I passed all these exams for all these professions I would have the certificates to prove it.
Who keeps the wage slips but not the certificates? |
By:
I am sure we will find a way to have the bet though.
