But perhaps these PR departments add value and are thus a cost saving to those who pay their council tax. At the moment we don't know if this is the case because nobody is yet willing to make the case. The closest anybody has come is Karla's assertion to the effect of, "doh, isn't it obvious? Only an idiot would ask such a question." To which I would reply that it is usually those who are classed as idiots who are the ones who point out that the emperor doesn't have any clothes on.
Still we shouldn't prejudge the issue. |

Thought this was especially typical: Then there is the £45,000 a year internal communications manager role. This person must “lead and inspire a team of three to deliver a fresh approach to internal communications” while another role, the internal communications officer, at £32,000 a year, “must use a range of communications channels to reach audiences”. All Councils seem to be hell-bent on this type of nonsense whilst expecting local retailers and factories and to pay ever-increasing business rates. It's very depressing. |

The last edition of the County Councils Spin Magazine was utterly nauseating.
On cost savings they seemed to expect accolades for doing the obvious, i.e. renegotiating with our suppliers, and working more closely with local councils. Plus the patronising garbage on not wasteing food "Lovely Leftovers", and if you are going on long car journeys this winter wrap up, take a torch and a blanket. Plus what the Council leader has been doing on your behalf; presenting a prize at a cycling race. We are not all in this together all of the time money is being wasted like this. |

If any one of us buys ANYTHING, the advertising is paid for in the sale price, every day we are bombarded to buy this or that product and they use OUR MONEY TO ADVERTISE, but then the clever right wing will say that they always knew this, but really, DID THEY? Most of the people who use this method are business people and this is why TORIES and NEW LABOUR, who were/are clones of Tories, the only people they fooled were the TORIES. |

Bazzar if you had ever run a business selling something you would realise your sale will be very slow unless you advertise your products.
I have advertised and the cost came out of my profit. I did not like spending this money but it is a catch22 situation. What are councils selling? |

we have people specifically employed to target smokers dropping butt ends of **** (not a nice habit) but a lot put them in bins
but these people are paid to stand and watch (I am not joking) whilst across the road a bunch of boys get away with shoplifting - no one stopped them etc (usual crap) It is about what councils and police authoriteis spend their money on and undoubtedly there is NO relation to what local people might want. It is against the law to litter but I don't understand why civilians are being used for this and spending more money on it!!!?? |

Of course they do, why an earth does this upset you so? Anyone who responds so dogmatically, as if the questioner were an imbecile, is bound to be asked for clarification/explanation in support of their apparently blind faith. It used to be the case that the figureheads of Local Authority Departments e.g. County Planner/Deputy County Planner, County Surveyor/Deputy County Surveyor, County Valuer/Deputy County Valuer, County Waste Disposal Officer/Deputy County Waste Disposal Officer etc etc ad nauseam, would deal with the press, Council members, Members of Parliament, local Neighbourhoods affected by particular issues, Community Leaders etc. These high-ranking officers didn't perform the daily executive functions themselves. Nowadays these people are still in post but have the dubious assistance of a Public Relations machine acting as a sieve or conduit to manage, deflect or justify various issues. Please, why is it so obvious that every Local Authority needs this? |
