Tough one as it seemed to me the natural movement of his right arm was outwards and backwards and it just happened to clash with Xiang's arm going forward. However his reaction coming over the line ann at interview suggested he knew he had done something untoward.
Nevertheless I thought they both recovered remarkably well from the incident to leap the last hurdle and cross the line still with decent momentum. |

didnt look anything accidental about it to me.

backed Richardson but I guess they are making us sweat before paying out. I feel very lucky if they pay out on Richardson but here's hoping. Can it possibly happen that IAAF wil deem the gold medal as a dead heat with Xhang and Richardson? and have no silver?
By:
deffo no gold for xiang but respect him for protesting. sure he doesnt care if he gets silver or bronze or nothing but he still put his neck out to get a fair result
By:
the only results will be richardson win or the cuban reinstated, i couldn't tell from the head on if his hand was over the lane line but if it was i doubt they will reinstate

inner city - Jackson is on Al Jazeera Sport with Denise Lewis. He thought it was just 'one of those things that happens in racing' and that Robles should have kept the race.
By:
doubt they would have dqd if they didnt have proof his hand crossed into lius lane
By:
listened to the race and 10mins after on R5 and never any suggestion anyhting other than a minor racing incident .... in fact dismissed by the experts as if those that suggested untowrd didnt know what they were talking about
By:
right arm and right trailing foot are over the line as they made contact, liu is completely in his lane

If you were a 1.01 place backer to large sums would you be happy that the market was FROZEN. Worst you might expect is demotion but still a place but some (including me) might/would choose to lay a bit off surely. Not being able to do so goes against trading and surely everything BF stands for. Who at BF makes the decisions when to suspend. I only hope it is not a numpty with delegated responsibility. Sets a very very dangerous precedent in my opinion. Markets should have been cleared and reopened. Well, I backed 1.01 for the podium, is the Cuban protest yet decided? IMO it was a natural movement as it often happens in hurdles sprint, no reason to dismantle from a medal (what colour ever)! |
By:
bb66. yes, they threw out his protest
By:
There's no way that was a natural movement. He knew he was being passed and he groped for the guy twice to hold him and stop him going past.
You can see by his reaction as he goes over the line that he knows he has cheated, he holds his head instead of celebrating as someone would in that situation. |

inner city - Jackson is on Al Jazeera Sport with Denise Lewis. He thought it was just 'one of those things that happens in racing' and that Robles should have kept the race. could there be a better expert to judge the incindent? And why wasn't he stripped of gold and given bronze if they wanted to penalize him? |
By:
If you cheat you should be kicked out imo, wasn't like he just stepped out of his lane, he deliberately tried to pull someone back and cost that person their gold medal.
By:
Jackson doesn't think he cheated
By:
just seen it on screen and cant quite believe how bad it was reported on the radio. totally missed the importance significance of it both from a disqualification point of view and GBR point of view with Turner in fourth/into Bronze
By:
I don't think it was deliberate. But there has to be a line as to what an athlete can do with respect to how they affect others in the race. Liu has the right to run his race without interference, so a judgement has to be made.
If this is not deemed an interference then you potentially set a precedent of all hurdlers being able to round arm anyone about to overtake them. In the main they're fairly casual about arms and legs going outside the lane if they're not affecting anyone else, but when there's contact I guess you just have to accept the consequences of your actions, be it accidental or not. |
By:
looked the movement of a man totally focussed on winning at all costs. IMO
By:
and you can tell that from his body language in the 10 seconds after the winning line
By:
You can't really prove intent, and I don't think that is what the decision is based on, what is clear is that Robles significantly interfered with Liu's run so a DQ is fair enough for me, but still a shame for what on paper should have been the best sprint final of the games.

Hi Guys!
Arriving at home I'm just reading the news about the 110 m hurdles final. I can find nothing about the podium ceremony on the IAAF site. Having read your posts it seems to me that Robles was dq'd right after the heat, and maybe there was no podium ceremony since then. It's quite important for me, because I had a best finishing position bet between Robles and Liu at another bookie and it was graded as Robles won. Can you please tell me if there was a ceremony before the dq. Thanks. |

i thought the medal ceremony was tomorrow

I have kept my eye on the World Athletics Championships but have found few punting opportunities - however I have been slowly backing Janeth Jepkosgei over the past week in the Womens 800m e/w at 10/1 and 12/1 and on Betfair. I now have a pretty good position on her and reckon she is a cracking e/w bet as she won this in 2007 and took silver in 2009 and the 2008 Olympics, and was also 2006 Commonwealth champion. She hasn't been in top form but is peaking at the right time - just what is needed for Major Championships as she has proven time and time again.
By:
Yeah punting has been difficult. I have only made two bets laying Ennis last night and I really fancy Jenny Meadows in the 800m. The race is completly open if the half man/half woman doesn't run like a machine again. Meadows has trained for this championships unl;ike some of the others who train for the lucrative grand prix events. Meadows is a huge price for me. I don't expect her to medal, i expect her to win gold.

Mute button called for when Merry and Macey are commentating and the T4 numbskulls are hosting. The only time it is removed is when Johnson is speaking.
Desperately poor coverage. |

Meadows wont win the 800m, no sprint finish. God knows what semenya will do.

I repeat what i said 2 years ago: the hermaphrodite shouldn't be allowed to compete with women!
By:
can james beat merritt?
5/2 seems decent |
By:
I'd go merritt for the 400m. I like James, but I think if both run their best merritt wins. Merritt has done it in the past, so wont bottle a final.
By:
James at 5/2 is a terrible price.
Id make Merritt 1/8 |

best lap hurdlers ran sub 47.5 with ease 25 years ago, today a sub 48 clocking seems to be a rarity - who can give the reasons? More rare talents like Ed Moses or drugs?
By:
why isn't sanchez in the 400 hurdle betting?
but clement is? |
By:
even the aged Superman Sanchez way off his form in prime years makes it to the final, so we will probably see Superman fighting Batman
![]() |
By:
Sanchez will be added, he wasn't expected to succeed that well
By:
seeing the tape again I doubt Liu wasn't in Robles' lane with his arm

wow!!!
Yelena Isinbayeva just equals the best pole vault height of 2011!! Why is she 1.6 still??? |

4.91 what a beauty!!!
