CJ - I backed Boston on the strength of their stickability - certainly wasn't expecting them to turn on the style the way they have against The Flyers. Laviolette has a lot to answer for imo - the keeper situation has not been ideal, but he has given none of his blokes any confidence by chopping and changing. It isn't just the keepers themselves that lack confidence, it is the entire team when the guy between the pipes is not sure of himself. Really needs to look inward as his decisions have cost the team.
I haven't seen much of the western games apart from the highlights this past week - maybe the Sharks are riding their luck but they do look tremendously tough and seem to produce goals at exactly the right time. I agree entirely that Sharks are favs in the West |

By:
Couldn't argue with any of that tbh , Flyers used 3 different GT in the opening 5 play-off games and think they fell into the trap thinking all was OK after reaching the final last year with the same issues but that was despite the pipes problems not because of , Sharks have many strengths at the moment but the main one may be to come when the inevitable injuries start kicking in as teams approach their 100th game of the season , then Sharks are by far the best team to cope with any sidelines for me.
Looks like you guys still have some tasty long term stuff still running so good luck ![]() |

Some interesting opinions guys and I guess that what it is all about. Prior to the playoffs I was adamant that a team from the west would win, and the way caps got blitzed and the fact that boston are 3-0 up in this series can be looked at in different ways. There are some very good teams and/or there are some very bad teams. My view is still that the east is a far weaker division. I must admit I havent seen as many games in the easy playoffs (as opposed to all in the west) but I saw plenty of boston and tampa in the regular season to suggest they are nothing special. However, this is a game of momentum and peaking at the right time and riding a 5 to 10 game streak is enough to win this thing. I just feel they will be found wanting.
Vancouver overated? I don't agree with that statement. I dont think they have shown the offense in the playoffs that often screams to observersers, "we are the best" but they have still played solidly without hitting their peak. The Chicago series cannot be considered as a benchmark of how good they are for a whole host of reasons. But with that behind them, they have dominated the predators and really should be 4-0 up already. I know the scorelines have been close but they have really been playing a washington type game. Tight, defensive, get the ahead, play a one goal lead, if that fails go again and up the offense. Although not as spectacular as in the free scoring regular season it is working, and if they need to another gear is there. However, the merits of performance depend on how much your rate the preds? Looks like a sharks v Nucks western final and rightly so. In the 4 regular games between the two, Van won 3 and the sharks won the other in a Shoot out. I have not seen anything to suggest the balance won't still tip in Vancouver's favour. Also, despite the results, sharks have had more than a few breaks and tight ones go their way. Overall, still all to play for but Vancouver still worthy favs for me.... oh and by the way I am totally biased ![]() |

What a start by redwings. Come out with a britzkreig. Sharks need to try and get some puck and slow detroit and the crowd. Not sure they can thought with the home team looking really up for this.
Perhaps a series aftr all ? |

By:
3-1 now , only the 2nd elimination game of the 2nd round and looks like yet another overs
|
|
By:
Superb game , great Sharks fightback but the best team edged it tonight , Sharks won the 2nd period again as has become the norm but we're back on Sunday to hopefully wrap it up

By:
Congrats Bruins , they've done a right job on Flyers in all honesty , very impressive

Agreed Philly out shot, out musculed and out played by Boston. Great stuff. They will go in favs against the lightning but I think it will be close.
The sharks showing why they keep winning games even when it looks lost, great comeback but not just enough tonight. Whether this performance has taken it out of the redwings we will see sunday, I have a feeling Sharks progress then. |

Anyone around tonight, Think and want Van to win but definately no bet for me at less than 1/2.
Going to look if there are any tasty specials with th books. |
|

Just finished watching the VAN game, an outrageous fluke gets them back in it at 2-2, but the Preds did well in both periods 2 & 3, and probably edged it after a weak opening period. VAN not doing it for me one bit. Great game though, best of the lot between these two.
Going to take the odds on DET tonight. Fancy another comeback is on the cards! |

Hey Hayden.... How goes it? I aint been active this season on the forums but been watching the games and just waiting on my beloved Oilers coming back in a season or 2 :)
Hope you are all well ! |

By:
Hey fingers , good to see you back mate hopefully as a regular
![]() Good call CJ well done , great Wings comeback against the odds and after looking done & dusted we could have a decider in either or both in San Jose and/or Vancouver , never over in this sport but who would have thought it ![]() |
|
By:
Pretty tired this morning, thankfully working from home today after last nights exploits. Game pretty much went to form. Vancouver firing early and then sitting back and playing a tight defensive game. Seems to be working ok, and they have the power to switch to offense if things start to go wrong. Henrik hopefully will get a bit of confidence from this series and will be more of a factor in the next. Bit like Kesler, however slightly unfair as Kesler job on the first series was to eliminate Toews.
As a neutral who is enjoying the Wings/Sharks series I just hope for more hockey and an exciting 7th game. Who takes it from there I don't mind. Meanwhile, they are sat with the feet up in the East! |
|
By:
Yes mate agree with that , sometimes you can play a perfect team role and it goes unnoticed to the majority , great for Nucks as they can rest and hope for a 7th game in San Jose , still don't think there's a better equipped outfit to do what Nucks did last night to hit early and then employ a game plan to defuse the opposition and win comfortably with only 19 shots and when Nucks are involved I don't think there's any advantage whatsoever in having the extra home ice game in any future series.
Be a great series whoever they play now and we're guaranteed 4 cracking teams battling it out ![]() |
|
By:
Only saw the highlights guys - looked a lot like game 1 of the series? Great when you can knock the crowd out of it early.
I too am hoping that it goes to 7 but won't be betting tonight. |
|
By:
What a game that was , absolute epic with the atmosphere unbelievable and a truly great effort from Redwings , can't wait for Thursday and a total coin flip for me but an unreal game tonight with the crowd incredible
![]() |
|
By:
Agreed Hayden, great game and hopefully a classic to follow. Redwings have all the momentum but have been playing with nothing to lose over lst few games but now I think the enormity of the situation will settle in. However, they have the experienced players to handle it.
Shades of the Vancouver - Chicago series when Van gor it done in the end, I think the sharks will just do enough on home ice. That said its a no bet for me!! Good luck anyone brave enough to play on this one! |
|
By:
Must admit I fell asleep before it started but woke up and saw the result I expected. Sets up a great all Pacific matchup, I think this lach of timezone travel will help the eventual winner in the final. Early books price it Van 5/7 SJ 6/5. Pretty close, should be a classic.
Also back to fun and games in the East. I will go for a Boston v Vancouver Stanley Cup final. |
|
By:
Memorable series that had everything , pleased for Sharks although felt sorry for Wings at the end after leaving everything on the ice , they may not be the team of a couple of seasons ago but a massive effort with the feeling of an era change maybe in Detroit.
Always been comfortable with any Sharks injuries with the options they have available but the return of Ryane Clowe after missing game 6 made me think he's a possible exception , the opening period in Vancouver could produce anything tbh and who can tell whether the rested Nucks or the adrenalin filled Sharks benefit in the opening exchanges. Such a fine line between success and failure at this stage as we've just witnessed , suppose my gut feeling is for a Tampa v Sharks final but drew has come so far with his ante post bet that i'll be rooting for a Bruins series win , in the other series may the best team win [;)] ![]() |

RIP to Derek Boogaard, he seemed like a great fella. Very sad news.
The Wild Organization Mourns The Loss Of Derek Boogaard Friday, 05.13.2011 / 11:06 PM / News By Glen Andresen - Managing Editor A dark week for the Minnesota Wild family took another tragic turn on Friday with the news of Derek Boogaard's passing. The news comes one week after Luke Stoner, the brother of Wild defenseman Clayton Stoner, died unexpectedly in a work accident. Boogaard was found in his apartment in Minneapolis, where he was spending his offseason. "The Minnesota Wild organization sends our deepest sympathies to the family of Derek Boogaard," said the Wild in a statement. "Derek was a fan favorite during his five seasons with the Wild and will be greatly missed here in Minnesota and throughout the NHL. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Boogaard family during this tragic time of loss." The 28-year-old native of Regina, Sask., was a seventh-round draft pick of the Wild in 2001. He saw his first action in the NHL in the 2005-06 season, playing 65 games in which he tallied six points (2-4=6) and 158 penalty minutes, a figure for which he still holds the franchise record for most penalty minutes by a rookie. Boogaard quickly became a fan favorite for his dominance over opponents when the gloves were dropped and his soft-spoken nature off the ice. His #24 Wild jersey was one of the most popular jerseys among Wild fans. "Boogey" or "The Boogey Man" was beloved in the Wild locker room for his jovial nature and gentle giant demeanor. On the ice, he was one of the most feared and respected enforcers in the National Hockey League. He strictly abided by "the code," refraining from cheap shots, and squaring off with opponents only when they were willing. Off the ice, he was everybody's friend and a huge supporter of community initiatives including "Defending the Blue Line." Boogaard made no secret of his love of playing in Minnesota, and the fans he had here. When it came time for public appearances or travels on the Wild's summer Road Tour, Boogey was a fixture. In the summer of 2006, his leg of the Road Tour in Southern Minnesota saw enormous crowds line up as kids and adults alike clamored for the chance to meet him. Nobody left disappointed. |

Pretty confindent Van can get an early series lead tonight. Going to have to tape the game as out early. fingers crossed for some cracking hockey.

Just watched the game and I thought a pretty dominant performance from Vancouver who looked value for more than a one goal victory. Reading the press, a lot being put down to tiredness and mental state following the SJ matchup with Detroit. I think a lot can be said for that and I expect a different Sharks team on Wednesday. Given the way Canucks play on the road, SJ will want to try and split the first two games.
Arguablly their best performance of playoffs so far and encouraging Henrik gets another goal. Think they are starting to find their form they showed in reg season now. That said, SJ has offence on first 3 lines and series likely to go all the way. Anyone else see it and have any thoughts? |
|
By:
Yes mate hard to assess what will happen in game 2 based on last night , have to say though that 3rd period display from Nucks was as dominant a performance as i've seen from a team all season , agree Sharks really need 1-1 going back to San Jose.
|
|
By:
Any thoughts on tonight lads - was away at the weekend and only saw the highlights of game 1 - Bruins look crazy-short tonight to win in 60 (2.16 on BF) and to be honest see little reason not to back Tampa. They look pretty much irresistible at the minute.
|
|
By:
In some ways it was a typical Bruins performance in game 1 , they're are undoubtedly a team to be feared and difficult to play against when 5 on 5 but ( i'm like a broken record I know ) the special teams are struggling so badly it's an easy strategy for the opposition to make things happen and create an equal share of 5 on 4 and that's when Bruins look very ordinary , too many turnovers in the first game but sure they'll sort that one out , simple expectation for me though in that if Bruins can't play smart and a lot more 5 on 5 hockey it'll be a short series.
Presumably you mean tomorrow night drew , sent you a pm the other day but if you've been away it's outdated now , good luck with the Bruins ante-post ![]() |
|
By:
I did mean tomorrow night HAYDEN (wish they still did that blushing smiley!)
And got the message - thanks! Good to know that stuff when its a league I take a particular interest in anyway. How bad are the withdrawal symptoms that you lads get for 3 months or so without the hockey? |
|
By:
Miss the hockey, love getting into normal sleep patterns.
Disappointed with Boston in game 1, so staying away from the game tonight. Good luck if anyone can find an edge |
|
By:
Sensational 2nd period from Bruins and 2 pp goals so far , still some familiar cracks but they looked to have worked hard on the glaring deficiencies of game 1 , 6-3 should be enough to square the series although you never know in this sport
![]() |
|
By:
Amazing level of performance and dominance from Nucks over the 2 games , although this series is still on serve with Nucks road abilities this is already a mountain to climb for Sharks in all honesty , if Bruins continue the special teams transformation in game 2 then they're still slight favourites for me in the East.
|
|
By:
OK, FWIW i'm all over TB in this series now. A couple of seriously iffy homer decisions putting minors on TB when Boston had been far more aggressive but thats hockey. Fair do's to the Bruins at last got a PP goal and dominating that 2nd Qtr, but TB did miss some crucial 1 on 1s in that game and instead of making it 3-3, went 4-2 down at a bad time.
Nice fight back in the 3rd showed what spirit they have, and with TB being smart on the PP and penalty kills, with home ice i have to favour them from now on. They have goals in them for sure. Still not watched the VAN / SJ games, tomorrow morning i'm on catch up! |
|
By:
Yes that continues to be the big issue with Bruins in that you just can't trust their hockey outside the 5 on 5 and against a team who have that strength in abundance , you're probably right CJ but feel safer leaving it for another game or two , be interesting to see how Bruins perform tonight away from the home intensity although it has to be said their fans were superb the other night.
Good luck tonight ![]() |
|
By:
I wish i'd swerved it too. TB put in their worst shift since the end of season. Good win for the Bruins, and thoroughly deserved too.

|
By:
Fantastic committed performance tonight to get back into the series , Sharks must have known it was a game 3 system bet
![]() From the Sharks perspective a good professional job with special teams outstanding but what a tense finish , sure you Nucks fans will have your own view though but as much as i'd love to see a repeat performance on Sunday to level the series it's notoriously difficult to maintain the game 3 level into game 4 from a 0-2 position , here's hoping ![]() |
|
By:
Couldn't argue with that from a Nucks perspective tbh , you would think they'll be back to their professional self on Sunday though ????
|
|
By:
What is happening here then !!!
|
|
By:
It is patently obvious Swardean - my silver is on Boston
![]() |

Tough on to swallow but still on serve drew and it seems in this series that the team that turns up on the night will edge it. I called a Van - BOS finasl and still think that will be the case.
Not had a bet on the Van/SJ series so far but have a gut feeling Van will win tomorrow. Will be gutted if my antepost bets dont return anything, so would look to cover if Van get to final. Has a good few days. LAnded a big placepot at Bath yesterday and tonight have a fair double on Osasuna and Bilboa. Fingers crossed. |
