Crikey there's some pessimism surrounding Nucks prospects tonight for sure , still far from convinced that coming from 3-0 down actually favours Hawks and more likely that the massive amount of physical & mental energy used up to gain parity will find them out tonight in my view.

Great time to be a neutral so bring it on  Grin

Great atmosphere at the BC as usual and Habs fully deserving a deciding game , coin flip game 7 although the odds will suggest otherwise  Happy

Great intensity this second period for Vanocuver, and great playing their part.  Nearly half way there now just keep it going.

Like drewboy I am playing golf tomorrow.  Tee off at 1.00pm not expecting the best after tonight!

More than a smile!! I have been on the edge of my nerves since the series went 3-1 and this is just the first round.

Great credit to the performance last night of both teams it swung both ways but ultimately I think Van deserves the win last night and the series win.  So many chancesd to go 2-3 goals clear but crawford outstanding.  The concede with less than 2 mins left, shorthanded, was a body blow and then to take a penalty early in OT was a near knock out.

The celebrations on the winning goal for the team, the coach, the crowd and the city was one of the most emotionaly ones I have seen.  You could really feel the lift of pressure, relief and joy.

Anyway the danger now is to lift themselves to those heights when they take on Preds.  A real danger they will undersestimate this team and think the hard work is done.  That said Van in 4 !!!Laugh

Crikey what a night that was , only just woken up  Laugh

The tension was unbearable tbh and that's from someone who had no bet on the game and in all probability would have preferred Hawks for my speculative Caps v Sharks final wager , that said I still found myself craving a Nucks win.
Pred's will have a game plan and will be as difficult to play against as ever , also the opening period of game 1 could produce anything from 3-0 to 0-2 such will be the emotion on the ice after this win , long series ahead I think.

You can come from behind the settee now Vancouver boys the demons have left the building   LaughLaugh

Landed my series 4 team accumulator in the west but Philly win has blown my one in the east.  Couple of coin tosses for me tonight.  So will go with the value and start with the Habs on the ML.

LAter game I somehow think pens will find a way to win.

Good luck anyone staying up.

Breathless start in Boston....

Atmosphere just incredible - hard to imagine being Bruins fan and going home from this rink having lost tonight.....

Going to stay with it as long as I can

Hi Drew, hope you are well, love a passionate crowd.

Have a horse for you, it is a unraced 2yo with John Quinn, a full brother to their New Planet (Majestic Missile (IRE)   — Xena (IRE) ).

Was unnamed in March but is the top of the pile and one for Royal Ascot.  Keep a look out.

If the caps were to make the stanley cup final, what price would they be against the sharks or vancouver?
By:

Evening Cardiff

There could be several imponderables along the way namely injuries to key players and the impressive or indeed unimpressive nature of the way they get through their next two series , all things being equal here's my take on it...

Vancouver 1.7
Capitals  2.4
( with bookmaker over round probably 8/13 v 6/5 )
Canucks would have to be warm favs due to the additional home ice for starters , the current bookmaker market suggests you'd do ok to get the 1.7 due to the relationship between the conference & outright betting as it stands now so the the 1.7 would be black print I suspect.

Capitals 1.66
Sharks   2.50
( with bookmaker over round probably 4/7 v 5/4 )
The fact Caps would now have the best overall record of the finalists makes them certain favs , one thing that would hold up the Sharks price would be the fact they would have beaten both Wings and probably Canucks to reach the final , that said Caps would be all the rage for the neutrals as always.

Sure there are other views out there that'll differ Cardiff , the potential injury list is interesting in that if AO misses games it will have a far bigger effect on the market than any Sharks individual as they have good depth in all positions

good luck mate  Happy

Cheers Hayden, as always another very helpfull post, top man. I had  small investments in them and the blackhawks a while ago, it would of been sweet if the hawks could of turned the formbooks upside down the other night to send both their odds tumbling but they have given me the value for my money. Just hoping the caps cans make it to the final so i could get a little return whatever the outcome, I still fancy them to make it there. Do you their current price is still value?

Have to admit mate i've been sweet on them to reach the final ever since the change to the more defense minded playing strategy several months ago , they were never going to progress far into the play-offs with that gung-ho attitude and trying to win 6-5 every game but they're a different animal these days and extremely hard to beat and whilst their old style was suited to the regular season the " new " Caps are extremely well suited to play-off hockey , it took Ovechkin a while to adapt and indeed accept the new playing strategy tbh but AO now seems to be peaking at the right time and i'll be a bit disappointed if they can't get past Tampa then Bruins/Flyers to reach the final , the odds of me coming out with that statement a year ago would have been a million.
I'm on a Caps v Sharks final at 20/1 for a speculative end of season bet and expect a good run for my money , as for your original question they're only value if your opinion is that they will do well , think the term " value " is vastly over used tbh and I prefer to accept the market price is a correct one and then match my opinion against that price , that basically amounts to the same thing and referring to value just over complicates things.

Had a decent one running well until last night el classico fiasco- williams for the worlds snooker, stoke for the fa cup, and real for champs league,
£25 would of returned 20 k plusLaugh backed them after stoke beat Cardiff in the fa cup! They are muggy but can create some great fun for small stakes occassionally

Ok good luck cardiff, as a Canucks fan I really hope you collectGrin

My own feeling is that this game is a no bet.  Impossible to predict after emotions of last couple of days.

I have antepost bet on Capitals as well and not looking to adjust my position until hey (if) reach the final.

Don't know what you guys think about the game tonight , considering the emotion was only 48 hrs ago anything could happen in the first period , Nucks will either come out blasting or could easily find it takes time to hit the heights so soon after ????

Your both spot on, anything can happen tonight with all the emotions of beating the Blackhawks, but now they have the voodo off their backs i can see them steamrolling the pred preds. After their regular season performance and then racing into a 3-0 leads they must of felt unbeatable, but im thinking the scare has brought them back down to earth.

Im sticking with canucks for tonight after my anti climaxLaugh to get it done in r/t.

Away to bed now, will pop in for a chat over the weekend. /0\

Well done Cardiff nice call on the matchup, albeit tinged with frsutration that the acca wasn't landed.

My view is wow, that was easy.  Looks a gulf in class and as racinggurur said this could be over early.  Do the preds have another gear, the Canucks certainly do and the close scoreline flattered Nashville.

However as seen in the last series you cant be complacent about anything.

Hi guys, I finally get to watch some live hockey tonight, hopefully ill be able to stay awake for both games tonight.

Really looking forward to the first game, I think the caps are going to be too fresh and strong for tampa and are going to get it done in regs tonight. Then hopefully kick on and make this another short series.

What do you make of tonights match ups?

Were last night's highlights really true to life?  Was Nashville's first meaningful chance after 32 minutes?

Maybe they should play best of 5 and give them more rest - I'd be gutted if I'd stayed up for that.

Think tonight's game in DC will be very cagey and may take the skinny looking (at first glance) odds about unders.  Can really see Caps defence wanting to show they can throttle the oppo....

Good luck and thoughts appreciated, I've time to have my mind changed yet....

Unders it is then as no dissenting voices Laugh

Even at 1.7 it looks good to me.  Rollason a class act for Bolts, Caps to play this checking game that served them well in late regular season, Bolts bound to be tired.  Should only be in danger if TB go a couple up early.

Off to bed, will be up all night over the weekend so hopefully chat then

5 mins to hold out for unders.  Caps on PP and with then 1 behind risk of empty netter says its odds against at the moment.  Fingers crossed it finished like this drew.

Empty netter, Bolts win, probably deserved, after 3 wins in Pittsburgh this team can do it on the road.  Sets up for a great series now.

Having a bet in the late game.   I think Redwings are rested and ready.  Take the odds against on the ML.

Good night of Hockey and typical play-off stuff , unlike Caps to give up 4 goals but sure Bruce will tighten them up for game 2 , take nothing away from Tampa they look a really good outfit these days and maybe relying on Stamkos too much isn't the case anymore.
Stayed up for the Sharks game and in all honesty it was typical stuff from Wings who are so so difficult to beat , Sharks on the other hand have a perfect play-off strategy at the moment based on 60+ minute hockey and shoot the puck , the fact they will pick up the odd deflection is understandable at the moment as they've won every one of their last 14 games based on shots totals with a difference of 529-400 , with that shot dominance and desire to play for 60+ things will happen for Sharks , knowing the Wings play-off mentality though it could be a long series.

Must admit do favour Flyers over Bruins in the series starting later , still think the over physical stuff will be hard to maintain for Bruins at this stage of the season and their suspect special teams must surely catch up with them soon , good luck guys  Happy

I managed to stay awake until the end of the 2nd period, quite disappionted at the 2 late goals the caps give away up late in the second, from there on the writting was on the wall for that game, on another day caps could of been 4/5 up by that time but fair play to tampa they took their chance. Still very optimistic on the caps coming through this series..
By:
Swardean
When: 30 Apr 11 12:45
Some good games, I think you were unlucky with Unders bet.  Two late goals (defelections) at end of 2nd made it tough but getting to the last minute, I make the goal (empty netter or equaliser) about a 5/2 chance.  Even the empty netter could have deflected the other way of the post.

The sharks game could be viewed was another example of them getting the breaks and bounces, but as Hayden said, if you have a game plan to shoot the puck you can make your own luck.  I see this series going all the way, and from a personal point of view lets see them really beat each other up.

Caps need to improve.  No strong views on the Philly series and Van to cruise through Silly

Cheers HAYDEN - Boston possibly just worth the lead, but a pretty scratchy period.  Both teams look pretty jaded to be honest.  Very worried that the Flyers crowd could probably lift them late on in this.  It is certainly going to be tight by the looks of things....

Two poerplays for Boston in quick succession and it looked like even strength - they look totally drained of confidence as a unit
