Ran twice in the states. Never did anything. Was sold for 55k after the Ascot run. He'd have got at least twice that and probably three times that if he'd sold him when he won that bumper. I remember Patrick Mullins saying he wouldn't be a bad ride for the following years GPT. Possible that Willie had a look but saw something he didn't like.

I started this thread with the heading profitable Punchestown?,from my opening post it should have been obvious that I would be using overnight prices with the books named.All prices taken can be verified as correct with the times on oddschecker.
The only competition is with the books in contrast to PA/Kingrat where there was a bet between posters as part of a competition with stipulated rules. There was a lot of jesting on that thread and it was hardly much of a competition,KR was putting up horses at 5s that were double figure odds on here where Pa was correctly extremely price sensitive. The thread was none of my business really but sure it's just a bit of stirring. I don't curry favour with anyone on here and call it as I want to. It would be very boring if we all just slapped each other's backs. No write ups this week = Genuinely extremely busy at the moment and very little spare time during the week. When I give write ups,they are generally criticized for being too long winded and containing too much verbiage. Overnight Prices (particularly during festivals) Price obviously should be of paramount importance to all punters. There are 25 shops within 20 minutes walking distance to me and I can get to 15 shops easily in one hour (regularly do an evening tour and a 9.15 Saturday morning trip). You obviously can't be lumping on in the same one or two shops on price ricks. You have 3 hours from when the prices come through for Punchestown and when the shops close. Anyone with a quixotic or noble notion that bets can't be struck until there is liquid markets in the morning is an absolute idiot. Powers are parasites and their balls have to be squeezed whenever possible,anyone sitting at home crying/boasting about being restricted are as lazy as sin. The only exceptions to the above are heavy professional punters where it wouldn't be worth their while getting runners marked or perhaps rural dwellers. |

A bit of a different tune from you at 01.22 dj where you now seem to agree what i was saying with overnight prices was correct after all,it was said in good faith on my part and was only done for the unaware.
I'd expect Bog War to go off between 3/1-7/2 rather than the 6/1 that was available last night in the opener. Dedigout is the solid choice in the 5.30 and the ew at 8/1 is looking decent now,after Shaneshill not staying yesterday,have to be doubts with the Fly and Jezki with the Dedigout probably setting a strong pace,could be another race for a shock and while on the ratings I Shot The Sheriff and Ttebob(worked very well with Walk to Freedom) have seemingly little chance i,d be hopeful one could get a place at least. I would agree with you on Bog War Pa. It's a very ordinary race for a festival handicap and he is coming in at the right end of the weights. I would have thought A Grey Matter has scope off 117 but he is very weak in the market. If they ride Smashing for the place then the 2.32 on here should be a lock. He's 4/6 with Powers in the w/o UDS market. |

Why Nina gave them that much of a start on good ground (over any trip) I will never know,expended a lot of energy getting into it but that's the nature of big field handicaps.

Despite a lack of ROI % scores on the doors, it feels like DJ is running away with this. The other two need to push hard to catch up, which is a bit artificial I suppose, in the sense that it might lead to even uglier returns.

Not disputing your price WM, but who in the name of Jesus went 4-6 On The Fringe?! Their odds compiler needs to reconsider his profession.
He is dominating alright, but he is also being competitive and sporting with his runners. If he didn't run Arctic Fire today, it would be a farce altogether. Gigginstown have been very good for the game. I love Faugheen, have been a huge fan since day one. Also have never been too keen on Arctic Fire. But Faugheen looks short enough today. I wont lay as I would much rather watch, and hope he puts on a show. 'No bet' as Roadrunner would say!! |

Yeah, but this wouldn't bother me. Who says they are second strings? Ruby and the market. The market is hugely affected by what Ruby rides, so basically its just Ruby.
Jockeys are not the most intelligent creatures on planet earth! I hate hearing the cry of foul play when a 'second string' wins. If another trainer had it in as their only runner, he would be shorter in the market. Each runner should be judged on their own merits, rather than eliminating them because 'Ruby didn't pick him so...'. Fair enough, when a APOB pulls off 'stable lad' gamble on a Heff ridden beast late in the season, it leaves a sour taste. But these are Grade Ones Willie is contesting and winning. All, or nearly all, his runners are entitled to be there. They are not machines, and Ruby is not the guy in 'Early Edition'. Surely its better he is running them, and running them on their merits, than only firing one bullet and reducing the quality of racing?? |

I would fully agree with all of the above Callit. Ruby can only ride one horse and there's only degrees of difference in ability in many cases. Add in the time of year etc. and it's no surprise that he hasn't been on several of the winners.
I stopped into a Boyles to watch the last two races yesterday. Several of the punters there were crying into their free coffee after Whiteout beat Uranna. They would make you question how they managed to write out the docket such was their level of intelligence. The multiple WPM runners have added hugely to the competitiveness of the racing this week. I wouldn't be surprised if Sempre Medici upset the applecart again today. |
