Master No-No's
Back a player 46 or over Back a debutante. Back someone that has never shot under 70 on the course. Another stat i read is the winner is almost always inside the top 10 after round one and that will probably when i will have my main bet/s. One that escaped the "no-no" list and is a huge price(300/1 and better on exch) is Camilo Villegas and will be carrying a bit of shrapnel. Looking forward to this.

Best week's golf of the year, 4 day's glued to the tv. Here we go:
Jason Day 16/1 Super record here with 2 top 5 finishes here in 4 years. In top form this year when you exclude events in California where he doesn't like. Phil Mickelson 25/1 Resident magician @ Augusta who showed a bit of the old sparkle last week in Houston. Going for his 4th win around here. Brandt Snedeker 45/1 Excellent record here with 4 top 20 finishes. Not so good last year when in poor form all year but win @ Pebble Beach few months back will have him in tip-top shape. Ryan Palmer 80/1 In top form this year w/o getting his head in front. Has the length and short game skills to excel around here. Finished 10 here in 2011. Angel Cabrera 100/1 Another course specialist who is sneaking in under the radar this week. Has shown signs of the old magic at times this year and return to Augusta should bring out the best in him. Good luck lads, should be a cracker.

Top 10: Reasons we love the Masters..... How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
10. Amateurs in the field: The Masters honours its founder, amateur legend Bobby Jones, by extending invitations to notable amateurs and amateur champions around the world. 9. Magnolia Lane: The road to the Augusta National clubhouse is 330 yards long and is lined with a canopy of magnolia trees that date back to the mid-1800s. According to the Augusta Chronicle, there are 61 magnolia trees on each side of Magnolia Lane. Those trees' branches meet overhead, creating a tunnel effect that is particularly striking when they are in bloom. It has yet to be confirmed, but we hear this is what the walkway to heaven looks like. 8. The menu: Limited, like commercial interruptions, and ridiculously affordable and tasty. Pimento cheese sandwiches, egg salad sandwiches, chicken sandwiches, Coke, sports drinks and beer. Sandwiches are $1.50. A dollar-fifty, people. 7. Par-3 Contest: Since 1960, a semi-social event on Augusta National's par-3 course has been played the day before the first round of the Masters Tournament. No player who has won the nine-hole event has ever gone on to win the actual tournament the same year. Girlfriends and wives often caddie for their golfing beaus, and they bring their kids to the course. Talk about fun for the whole family. 6. Champions Dinner: The Champions Dinner has been an annual tradition at the Masters since 1952, when Ben Hogan suggested and hosted the first edition. The previous year's winner gets to select the menu – and he also has to pay. 5. Ceremonial tee shots: Jock Hutchison and Fred McLeod hit the first ceremonial opening tee shots in 1963. For many years the trio of Sam Snead, Gene Sarazen and Byron Nelson filled the role. The much-loved tradition now has Arnold Palmer, Gary Player and Jack Nicklaus. 4. Drive, Chip & Putt Championship: Saying this year's second Drive, Chip & Putt Championship was a success is like saying the Masters is just another golf tournament. Understatement.of.the.century. Eighty-eight juniors from around the U.S. and Canada converged on Augusta National the Sunday before the Masters - a scene alikened to Willy Wonka opening up his chocolate factory to children with golden tickets. 3. Limited commercial interruption: The Masters, by design, has fewer commercial breaks than any other golf tournament. While we'd love to never be taken away from coverage, I guess we can't complain about seeing 57 out of every 60 minutes. Hope this is still the case with Sky ! Monty missing thank God. 2. Amen Corner: The second shot at the par-4 11th, all of the par-3 12th, and the tee shot at the par-5 13th at Augusta are nicknamed Amen Corner. This term was first used in print by author Herbert Warren Wind in his April 21, 1958 Sports Illustrated article about the Masters, and is one of the most beloved arenas in sport. 1. Green Jacket: The tradition of the green jacket at Augusta National Golf Club dates to 1937. That year, members of the club wore green jackets during the tournament so that patrons in attendance could easily recognize them if they needed to ask questions. Slipping a jacket onto the winner of the Masters began in 1949. A few women are sporting them now, too.

'The Cut' at the MASTER....BEFORE THEY ASK.
Question:- What is the Cut Rule at The Masters? Answer:- The Masters cut rule is...after the second round, golfers with the low 50 scores, plus ties, plus any golfer within 10 strokes of the lead.

Anyone else find that the bookies are not begging for business in their usual pre major manner??
Maybe tomorrow will bring more carrots. Have not had as much time as usual the week of the Masters, and have concentrated a lot on the alternative markets. Brendon Todd and Shane Lowry look excellent bets for Top Debutante. 15-2 and 8-1 are both quite a bit over what I would make em.

The last time a rookie won at Augusta (Fuzzy Zoeller in 1979) they came from 3 strokes back with three holes to play to win via a play-off.

The 18-1 on Jonas Blixt for Top Continental European is an absolutely superb bet.

My bets, win only : Brendon Todd, Brooks Koepka, Danny Willett, James Hahn, Kevin Stadler, Louis Oosthuizen, Morgan Hoffmann, Robert Streb, Ryan Palmer, Shane Lowry, Stephen Gallacher.
I don't go for this "rule" that a player needs many years to learn the course. That might have made sense when players drove from tournament to tournament years ago and seldom saw Augusta. Now they fly in for a few days practice. They have plenty of film on Augusta, course measurements handed to them, and they play much more in the USA and abroad. There is a nice gusty breeze forecast for all four days, although the heavy rain forecast is no longer there. This might make it more of a lottery. Big hitting might cause big misses. Tactics and control might be the tools needed.

I like your style Kinscem, maybe it could be the year the "stats" are thrown out the window with the weather, the official site still giving a fair chance of thunderstorms for the first 2 days in particular, think obviously a soft course could be a great advantage to the long hitters.
Pity betfair gave up betting I/R in the par 3 comp though very understandable, very often someone that was a couple of shots clear and long odds on would let their 3yo son/daughter take the last putt and be disqualified, that could happen a few times,it used to be chaos.

I fancy Rory , Bubba , and Dustin to be in contention .
However the value is Ryan Palmer at 100/1 ( Grahams) , each way 6 places , money back on win part if he misses the cut ( up to £25 ) . 90 to lay on here , 17/1 a place , free bet for anyone interested . Could be a brilliant tournament , all the signs are good so far . Hope Tiger contends , that would make it extra interesting .

kincsem,
I note your win only bets... Louis Oosthuizen..... is only 2 cuts from 6 attempts, with 2nd in 2012 and T25 in 2014. Ryan Palmer............... is also only 2from6, with T39 in 2005 & 10th in 2011 and returns after a 3year absence. Kevin Stadler............ 1from1, T8 in 2014, only his 2nd time around. Stephen Gallacher.... 1from1, T34 in 2014, only his 2nd time around. and DEBUTANTS Brooks Koepka Shane Lowry Brendon Todd Danny Willett Morgan Hoffmann Robert Streb James Hahn While I note the 'rookie stat' I do like James Hahn 11/1 for T20 only in Spoils. Best of Luck.

Ref value and previous post , Tiger is 45/1 with Grahams , 36 to lay on here now . Cut etc.

I really don't know what to male of Tiger, his record at Augusta is unreal (even when he hasn't been at his best) but then the last time we seen him on the course he resembled Roadrunner
At 50s i could have still been tempted but now that's all gone i will be leaving him as i will take all these reports of stunning practice with a pinch of salt

While golfers will look to shoot low scores to put themselves in contention, Mother Nature will challenge them with near-record high temperatures and storms during the tournament.
http://www.accuweather.com/en/weather-news/2015-masters-weather-forecast-storms-heat-delays-augusta/45150822 PF, The late start will suit Tiger (50's PP 6 places was too big) and Lindsey thinks he will skite in. From the interviews and reactions to him that I've seen...he's a 'changed man' (Tiger that is).

YES Ozy KIRSTY looks very nice indeed [close to 40] No doubt Rory will be opening a few buttons on his shirt to show off his new Muscular Physique when he is being interview by her, but to more serious matters POD at 200/1 is worth a fiver of anyones money,..Mikko Ilonen at almost a 1000/1 is worth a small bet , winner of the Volvo World Match Play Championship beating Senson in the final and winner of Irish open in 2014 as well.GOODLUCK

Outsiders i have backed Keppa/Blixt/Robert Streb. The only other i am thinking of backing is Dustin Johnson. Can't see Rory winning to be honest. Matt Kuchar 40s Jimmy Walker 25s Adam Scott 22/1 Brooks Koepka could be one from the clouds. Wouldn't surprise me to see him in contention. Sky Sports subscription due to end on Monday so hopefully we get the tournament finished before Sunday evening. Loving the write ups Catch! |
