New Zealand : Israel Dagg, Richard Kahui, Ma'a Nonu, Sonny Bill Williams, Isaia Toeava, Dan Carter, Jimmy Cowan, Victor Vito, Richie McCaw (capt), Jerome Kaino, Ali Williams, Brad Thorn, Owen Franks, Andrew Hore, Tony Woodcock. Reserves: Corey Flynn, Ben Franks, Anthony Boric, Sam Whitelock, Piri Weepu, Colin Slade, Cory Jane
Tonga: 15-Vungakoto Lilo, 14-Viliame Iongi, 13-Sukanaivalu Hufanga, 12-Andre Ma'ilei, 11-Siale Piutau, 10-Kurt Morath, 9-Taniela Moa, 8-Viliami Ma'afu, 7-Finau Maka (captain), 6-Sione Kalamafoni, 5-Joseph Tuineau, 4-Paino Hehea, 3-Taufa'ao Filise, 2- Aleki Lutui, 1-Soane Tonga'uiha. Replacements: 16-Ephraim Taukafa, 17-Alisona Taumalolo, 18-Kisi Pulu, 19-Sione Timani, 20-Samiu Vahafolau, 21-Samisoni Fisilau, 22-Alipate Fatafehi. No Muliana, Smith or Mealamu for NZ, They are braced for a physical encounter against the brute force of the Tongans! Tonga were on of the surprise packages of 2007 Beating the USA and Samoa and losing just 36-20 to Eng and even more impressively losing 30-25 to eventual winners South Africa. This is going to be a bruising affair and if the Tongans can keep their discipline(e.g card count low!) i think the +65/66 cap is much too high Tonga +65 10/11 |

I see that all the WC falls under the BETFAIR AUSTRALIAN WALLET thingy
What are the implications of this? |
|
By:
Opening day nerves can often get to hosts in tournaments like these - the h/cap looks too high - BJG - do you know if the Tongans playing full strength side or holding their fire for the Canadian and Japanese matches?
|
|
By:
Ya, looks a full strength side to me
Was an injury doubt over Maka the captain but he says he is fit! Interesting looking at the squad they appear to have only included one out half in the Whole WC squad, obviously they believe others can slot in there if needed! Gonna do a rain dance for friday mornin, hope its p1ssin ![]() |

It means you'll have to have completed that KYC nonsense if you want to transfer money back out of your Australian wallet. Don't know BJG I think the Kiwi's will be looking to make a massive statement for the opener but I know little or nothing about the Tongans other then a couple of names I recognise. Aren't they traditionally the weakest of the 3 islands? |
|
By:
Yup i would say they are the weakest but have beaten both Fiji and Samoa this year - bargaining on a very hard hitting first half and hopefully they can stay within 20 at ht and id fancy em to hold on then!
Big factor is their discipline, has been notoriously poor! Red Cards a plenty But as its the first game i wont be goin mad Lookin forward to the Wales v Samoa game for months -Maybe my biggest bet of the tourney on the Islanders ![]() |

one thing i think for everyone having a bet to bear in mind are the weather conditions for each match in particular if your having a bet in the big 40+ handicaps ......for example just had a look at the forecast for invercargill saturday and its 10 degrees and raining while north harbour is 17 degrees and sunny ......
Handicap match this weekend thats standing out for me so far is France -46 against japan ...... match on in north harbour so weather should be perfect for running rugby and looking at the team france have picked there should be plenty of that ...backline of Haymans , clerc, rougerie, estebanez, medard, trin duc and yachvilli ....i know France aren t everyones cup of tea from a betting perspective but i expect them to run up a cricket score here .... was pretty impressed by there intensity against ireland in dublin recently think they are a good bet to reach at least the semi finals despite being in new zealands group ..... even loosing to them they will probably play england in the quarters whom i don t rate at all ..... |
|
By:
have you had a look at the rabo direct league games this weekend BJG ??

Dragons an immediate standout against Leinster at the prices - Leinster were horrible last week
Will wait for teams but Dragons +11 looks fair Like the look of Cardiff -19 v Treviso too |
|
By:
Leinster are slow starters but the Dragons were flattered last week by the score line. Must have put another 14 points on them, helps when you keep 15 players on the pitch lads
![]() Like the Treviso bet, they seem to have really suffered from the WC callups |
|
By:
Ladbrokes had +4.5 Red cards for the Tournament at 10/1, is that not a bit big conidering Tonga V NZ Samoa V Tonga, USA v Russia England v Argentina and a number of other potential grudge matches.
Some of these sides have very poor disciplinary records. 10/1 for 5 reds or more seems big. |

Irish team due to be named in the early hours for those interested
|

By:
Rumour is that Murray will start at 9 for Ireland.
Funny to hear Jerry Flannery being interviewed about the US game, he reckons that if the US kick off, whoever catches it off will want to get rid of it straight away to avoid the 1st big hit from the Yanks, bearing in mind the date. |

By:
TG4 are showing a good Rugby World Cup preview at the moment!
|
|
By:
Thats is a an intriguing bet squigs! There are quite a few interesting head to heads in the group stages, England v Scotland is another one, there will be no love lost in that one.
|
|
By:
Got Tonga in a sweep today, there is more chance of me getting pregnant than the Tongan boys even getting out of the group stages. We'll see what there made of later on.!

I like the look of that Irish backline, that's our best backline imo.

NZ 29-3 ht
Very disappointed with the Tongan forward performance so far - The tacklin of the No. 12 has cost em 2 tries too ![]() ![]() |

What a load of shiite this rugby world cup is,more than a month of meaningless matches before the 2 semi finals take place.Would it not be easier for England to play France and the winners to join New Zealand,Australia and South Africa in a semi final. The rest of them like the Scottish,Welsh,Portugese,Irish,Namibians etc should have their own tournament somewhere else as realistically they have no business whatsoever in the World Cup.

Ireland world cup in a nutshell, beat USA,ragged by Australia as usual, beat Russia and Italy after that, then get hammered in the quarter final. Now lads look at all the sleep i am after saving ye,theres no need for anybody to get up and watch this drivel now.

France are one of the ones fancied to go all the way here and have an extremely strong squad but i think the handicap of 45 10/11 @ BS is too much (46 at Blue SQ and 47 at Coral for those with access!)
Japan are a massively improved and underrated team the last year or 2 - cummulating in them winning the Pacific Nations Cup and only lost 31-24 in Italy last month to a strong italian side and its never easy to go there Pacific Nations Cup consists of 4 teams - Japan, Fiji, Tonga and Samoa and Japan beat Fiji and Tonga on the way to winning it Id fancy Japan to score a try or 2, are decent with the ball in hand in the backline but will get owned up front so hopefully they make something with the ball they do get. Japan +45 10/11 |
|
By:
Agree mincer tbh, dont think there is anyway ireland go farther the quarter finals. No way they get any further in my mind, simply not good enough the last 12 months
Id be more worried about em getting rattled by Italy and going out at the group stage ![]() |
|
By:
Now BGJ,surely they will have too much for Italy,if they dont beat them they should be made swim home
|
|
By:
England v Argentina under 42.5 points 5/6 Laddies
Both sides solid upfront, fully expect England to win comfortably - this is not the Argentina side of 4 years ago, a very average team now! Both sides will be happy to take their 3 points when the opportunities and JW will no doubt kick a DG or 2 - think the number of tries will be limited and cant see anythin other than a low scoring affair and the line looks fair |
|
By:
Scotland -33 at 1/1 PP is very tempting - if it was dry id be havin a decent cut at that but the forecast is for heavy rain so going to have to give it a miss - Romania are a horrendously bad team
Nothing worse than tryin to cover a sizeable cap in the rain - No bet |
|
By:
agree with you about scotland BJG ...romania are terrible ....going against you with France going to stick with them -44 with ladbrokes .......going chancing Fiji -29 against namibia ...namibia are terrible also
Leinster looked good tonight ... carr and madigan were outstanding ..... madigan showed serious gas for an out half with his try |
|
By:
france -41 now with paddy p and ladbrokes
