Chartwell's Lady, 1pt EW @ 40-1, 5.15 Dundalk (4 PLACES)
Chartwell's Lady is a risky selection to say the least given she ended her time with James Ferguson with some disappointing efforts, and since arriving in Ireland she's been beaten an aggregate of over 200 lengths in four completed starts over hurdles; furthermore, her trainer hasn't had a winner on the Flat for 1799 days and 81 runners, and her 10lb claiming rider is still seeking a first winner. However, Chartwell Lady is of a little interest here based on her clear second at Wolverhampton in April when stepped up to 12f for the first time, which didn't look a bad effort on the day judging from the comparative overall times and how the race panned out, and time has shown she bumped into one anyway as the winner was My Noble Lord, who would win a further three times on turf and rise up the handicap by 27lb. There's clearly a question mark over what she's now capable of and has her stamina for two miles to prove, but that good effort suggested she'd be worth a try over further, is 2lb lower here, and fitness shouldn't be an issue having been hurdling recently. Mickey Mongoose, 1pt EW @ 12-1, 8.30 Southwell Mickey Mongoose ran out an emphatic winner at odds of 66-1 over C/D in March off a mark of 56, having the race in the bag at the furlong pole, and while his advantage was reduced to 2.25L at the line, there was a further 3.25L back to the third. The second, third and fifth would go on to win subsequently. The selection has failed to make the first three in nine runs since but has run okay on a couple of occasions to not be beaten far, and he didn't shape too badly on his latest start over 7f at Newcastle in a 0-68 when returning from nearly two months off, having led the field until around 1.5f out before fading out of it, perhaps the run being needed. A further 3lb drop allows him into this 0-50 classified for which he has the ceiling rating, which is 12lb lower than the mark he was on following that C/D success. |

GL George, funnily enough Mickey Mongoose was one of the first horses of interest to me on the Southwell card. Got some very good times at the course masked a bit by its finishing positions. It's been backed a bit so I think the bookies are reading your posts! Normally I jinx your selections but you never know...

Will be a massive BFSP for Chartwell Lady, George B if that gets into the frame. Congrats on your winner other day and nice places in general, well done.
Does show that it's all about the price you get in the long run. |

I've gone for Mephisto EW in that race GB, ran a good 2nd over C/D lto and with Kearney jocked up runs from a 6lb lower mark, also has won over C/D from 58 in the past, have given the horse a mention a couple of times in past myself. Actually think that young Jack has a good book of rides, 5 in all and could give most of them EW chances.

Thanks for the positive comments.
Well done stewarts if you were on four places. Unfortunately, Lee, beans on toast for supper, if we're lucky. I wondered if the Irish air and a spell hurdling might restore Chartwell's Lady back to the form she was in when running well at Wolverhampton back in the spring, but a Betfair SP of 420 gave a clue as to how she might run, and a search party was enlisted to go out and find her once her rivals had passed the post. I thought there was a solid case to be made for Mickey Mongoose on this drop into classified company following a sharpener at Newcastle recently, but after having a nice tracking position on the way round he faded to finish 5th. 2025 Running P/L: +18.68 pts |

Cheers George yes had 1st 4 with 356 for Mephisto, he had 1 winner got 7/2 Volatile Analyst, a 3rd and that 4th, needed his ride in first to get 3rd for a place yankee, btn 1/2 length into 4th, typical but only a small loss on bet, left his 2/1 shot out for Weld.

Good luck Foyles. Yes 9.2 is correct as there was 1 pt to be added for the pick that was win only.
Good luck today, stewarts, hope you win enough to buy one of those bagel towcesters. |

Max Of Stars, 1pt EW @ 10-1, 5.30 Wolverhampton (4 PLACES)
Max Of Stars has been weak in the betting today on her return from an absence of 167 days, but I'm going to take a chance on her fitness as she's potentially well handicapped in this sphere off a mark of 55 having reached a peak rating of 117 over hurdles during a juvenile hurdling campaign in the 2023 / 24 season which saw her win four times and twice finish runner-up in Listed races to the very useful Wodhooh. Prior to going hurdling, the selection hadn't shaped too badly when finishing 4th of 6 in a 0-70 contest at Southwell in April 2023, showing enough to suggest she acted on Tapeta and could win in a lower grade. It was disappointing that she didn't win in two starts back on the Flat last year, but not sure the race panned out ideally when finishing second back at Southwell (11f, the third won his next start) in April, and she appeared to go off too quickly in a battle for the lead when ending up well beaten when last seen and sent off favourite for a 2-mile handicap at Catterick in August. Max Of Stars made all for all four of her hurdle wins, and is nicely drawn in two if the plan is to go forward again, with Paul Mulrennan taking over in the saddle. |

Max Of Stars seemed to get into a nice enough rhythm in the lead but could offer no resistance once headed 2f out and weakened out of it with her head at an angle.

We'renotreallyhere, 1pt EW @ 8-1, 3.55 Lingfield
I'm going to give another chance to We'renotreallyhere who I selected last time at Wolverhampton when I wrote: ======= We'renotreallyhere posted a couple of good efforts to make the frame over course and distance this autumn, and the form of the race in which he finished third in October has worked out well, with wins subsequently for the winner, second (twice) 4th (hat-trick) and seventh. He was returning from nearly two months off ahead of his latest start over C/D in a slightly higher grade with a first-time visor applied (retained here), and although he could only finish 8th of the 11 runners, he shaped as though he had returned in reasonable form, being a bit lit up in midfield in the headgear in a race where it wasn't easy to come from off the pace as the leaders controlled the fractions, but he kept on okay and might have finished a bit closer but for being impeded inside the final furlong. The fifth, who finished just over a length ahead of him, has since finished a close-up third in a Southwell handicap. Hopefully that recent return and initial run in a visor has taken the fizz out of him as he has a tricky draw in ten to overcome, but if this pans out well then he evidently has the C/D form to be thereabouts in this grade. ============== He disappointed having been sent forward from a tricky draw and failed to settle, which could again be an issue here, especially on this step up in trip to 10f, but he has shaped as though worth a try over it when he has settled, and he's back on the mark he won off here in August over a mile when he reversed the form with in an in-form filly who had beaten him previously on turf at Salisbury. |

Good luck Foyles.
We'renotreally, who was well backed close to the off, settled fine on this occasion but failed to get competitive after hanging left / finding trouble at the top of the home straight, not that he finished off with much gusto after. 2025 Running P/L: +14.68 pts |

Jems Bond, 1pt EW @ 12-1, 1.46 Newcastle
Jems Bond hasn't been running too badly here of late, albeit without getting too close to the winner, and he's of a little interest today as there was a suspicion on his latest start over 7f that he wasn't on the best part of the track down the stands' side on that particular evening, so in the circumstances his effort might have wanted marking up. The obvious concern for this five-time course winner at 6/7f is the one mile trip, particularly if lit up by the first-time visor, but he seems to stay it having placed here twice over it from few attempts at the distance, each time in stronger races than today's classified stakes. He has a high draw so it has to be hoped that part of the track isn't the disadvantage it seemed on his latest start here, but hopefully he can give a good account if settling fine in the new headgear. Vixey, 1pt EW @ 33-1, 6.00 Southwell Ash Wednesday is going to be hard to beat under his penalty after bolting up at Wolverhampton the other day, but I'm going to give another chance to Vixey. The selection made the frame twice over 6f at Newcastle in 2022 when qualifying for a mark, and she won on turf (Redcar, 7f, good) during a consistent spell of form for Chris Fairhurst in 2023. It's a concern that she didn't offer much in four starts for Michael Herrington last year, but she didn't shape too badly off a break on her debut for Simon West at Musselburgh (7f, g-s) in November. I've selected her the last twice at Newcastle, over a mile, a trip she should stay on pedigree but didn't see her race out having been keen on front-end, and last time back at 7f when held-up and never involved but she didn't appear to get much of a run through. Vixey is now a stone below the mark she started 2024 on and a tongue-tie is applied, so hopefully can give a better account today having hinted that some ability remains in three starts for her current yard, if finding this course suitable on her first attempt here. |

My 7th second from 25 selections this month. If it wasn't for bad luck I wouldn't have any luck at all.
As for Vixey, they didn't go any pace and she got outpaced when the dash for home commenced before keeping on to finish 4th, some way behind the first two. 2025 Running P/L: +14.08 pts |

Internet issues today so 3 quick write-ups
Emily Post, 1pt EW @ 14-1, 7.05 Newcastle Good run over C/D three starts back when finishing runner-up, with subsequent winners in third and fourth. I think she's had excuses in two starts since, when selected at Southwell where she was keen and caught wide, and last time back here when not getting a clear run off steady fractions. Glory Call, 1pt EW @ 20-1, 7.20 Wolverhampton C/D winner who might have wanted his effort marking up two starts back over 7f at Southwell, and probably needed the run back there last time out over 6f off a two-month break when drawn and raced wide. Life On The Rocks, 1pt EW @ 33-1, 8.20 Previous thread selection for whom it takes a leap of faith to support Life On The Rocks based on recent runs at Newcastle, but his wins have come on less demanding tracks and he's off a little interest back at Dunstall Park having shaped well here in a 0-85 in November over the 9.5f trip, when caught wide but showing up well for a fair way and not knocked about once held. All his wins have come over 10f so there is a query about the 8.5f trip and he's eligible for weaker races than this 0-72, but he does travel strongly when on song, and he's 9lb lower than when winning a Racing League turf handicap in August. |

Ta Foyles, unfortunately not one of my better days.
No excuses this time for Emily Post who could only finish 6th in a well run contest. Glory Call appeared to set some solid fractions on the front-end and kept trying once headed a furlong out but couldn't hold on for a place, dropping to 4th in the final strides. Life On The Rocks, who's been getting beaten double-digits round Newcastle, did run better back at Wolverhampton to be beaten just under five lengths but was only 7th best, and while he'd be better suited to the extra furlong, this was run at a decent gallop and he appeared to have a nice position in mid-div based on how the race panned out. 2025 Running P/L: +8.08 pts |

Light Up Our Stars, 1pt EW @ 25-1, 4.26 Wolverhampton
I selected Light Up Our Stars on his latest start here over the 9.5f when I wrote: Light Up Our Stars seemed to do well to hang on for a place on his latest start over the 8.5f trip here considering he had to do a lot of running from his widest draw in what was the quicker of the two divisions by around 1.5 seconds. The first and second have since filled the first two positions in another 8.5f contest, one of which is the James Owen-trained Forever Proud, who has won twice since (including that latter contest) and reopposes the selection on 9lb worse terms for just over a length. The downside to the selection's chance today would appear the step back up to the 9.5f trip as his best form round here has come at the shorter trip, even though he has won over 10f on turf, but a chance is taken each-way at the odds given that sizeable pull in the weights with the forecast favourite. Once again he didn't run well over the longer trip round here, but hopefully the return to 8.5f can suit, as can Joey Haynes being back aboard, for whom he twice ran well under in December. He again has a tricky draw and it's a concern that, as like on that penultimate effort, he'll be a sitting duck in the closing stages if forced to use up too much gas early in order to secure a prominent position, but a chance is taken at the odds in the hope that he can again at least hang on for a place. Bibendum, 1pt EW @ 28-1, 7.00 Wolverhampton (4 PLACES) Bibendum is a cast-off from the Gosden yard who's still a maiden after 12 starts but has shown for his current stable to suggest a race can come his way, notably over C/D in October when finishing second of 11 in a contest that produced comparatively the best time on the card, and from which the 3rd, 4th and 6th have won subsequently. Of the selection's three starts since, he ran well to finish a close-up third at Newcastle (6f), then reportedly ran flat when disappointing back over C/D in November, and shaped as though needing the run when finishing 6th of 8 back from a two-month break at Southwell recently. The negatives aren't hard to spot for today as he doesn't have Jack Doughty's valuable 5lb claim like he had for that good C/D effort, he's eligible for weaker races than this one, and it has to be hoped that he doesn't over-race in first-time blinkers from his wide draw, but a chance is taken at the odds as there is probably a bigger effort in him at some point. |

Wondering if you think Snag it has an EW chance again George, has a 9lb pull with Deed Pole for 4 1/2 lengths so should get closer, may be better over shorter distance though. I think Deed Pole looks to have a very good chance bearing in mind that Cousin Shay is up 8lbs for winning, a much improved horse, Deed Pole up 4lb for getting btn but only 1/2 length and his trainer needs to get his 1st winner.

stewarts, I was quick to move on from this race as he's not well in with a few of them in this claimer on the adjusted ratings, and some of them have good apprentices on too. At least his fitness should be advanced now on this run from back from a break and his stable seem to be over whatever caused that dismal losing streak last year, so a good run wouldn't surprise, but no, passed on it. Good luck with Deed Pole.
