I wouldn't normally pollute your thread George - but I spent a while last night looking at this 18:30 Wolves race.

Kiss me Hardy? Shocked Grin - My pin came down on Nelson Gay.

I wasn't going to bother at last night's prices (approx 6/1) but the drift to 10.5+ on here has suckered me in Cry

Good luck George!

Good efforts TM & cobs.

Cheers Virgin

As for my two in the 6.30, well wide off the mark with Antiphon. Bibendum, who came in for some late market support, put in some late work from off the pace without being able to reach the prinicipals.

Thismydream gave it a good shot from the front and managed to hang on for a place.

Holy Fire, 1pt EW @ 15-2, 6.30 Kempton

Holy Fire has generally been disappointing for a while and that is reflected in her reduced mark but interesting that she has come in for some market support and it could be that if she is to revive then it will be at this course where she has a decent record. The selection is looking well handicapped on her form from last winter / spring when her efforts included close-up finishes over C/D off marks in the low-80s, so she's potentially well handicapped off a mark of 70.

Holy Fire is returning from a short break but she twice ran well here last winter off longer absences, and Callum Shepherd, who has been aboard for most of her good course runs, takes over again in the saddle, and they have a nice draw to work from in four.

Cool Party, 1pt EW @ 8-1, 7.30 Kempton

Cool Party has work to do to reverse last-time-out Newcastle form with Cello, but he makes a bit of appeal at the prices back at Kempton, where he's compiling a fair record, which includes two wins and two respectable efforts to finish within two lengths of course specialist Duke Of Oxford, notably in the London Stayers' Series Final over C/D in December when keeping on to finish 4th behind that rival, who was winning the race for the second year running.

The selection has been weak in the betting this morning and it could be the long-term plan is for another crack at the series final, for which this is a qualifier, but he's able to race off a pound lower mark this evening, and while he may not want this to develop into a tactical affair, hopefully the return to this venue can prompt another good effort here.

Also like Cool Party's chance of reversing the from with Cello back at Kempton. Form with Duke of Oxford decent.  Also, Wonder Legend a bit short and not 100% certain to get the longer trip. Will probs get involved with 3 places. GL GeorgeCool

Unfortunately, cobs, a disappointing effort from Cool Party.

The return to Kempton off a reduced mark failed to reignite Holy Fire's flame as she faded to finish fifth having had every chance to place.

Roysdelight, 1pt EW @ 9-1, 7.00 Southwell

Roysdelight is a 13-race maiden who has run well on occasions and one of his better efforts came on his penultimate start over C/D in a 0-83 contest when finishing a two-length 4th of 6, form which isn't too bad with the winner having gone down by a head on his next start at Lingfield to one who was completing a hat-trick, and the runner-up having subsequently run well to finish second at Newcastle in a 0-91 contest.

The selection finished 27 lengths last of eleven on his latest start at Wolverhampton when back into class 6 company, but that is easy enough to put a line through as he was too keen upped to 6f and hung right.

Billy Loughnane rides the gelding for the first time and hopefully the selection can at least press for a place if reproducing that previous C/D form which came off a 2lb higher mark.

Vixey, 1pt EW @ 33-1, 8.30 Southwell

Vixey has become a bit of a 'cliff' horse for my threads but I've been given her more chances as, rightly or wrongly, I thought she might have had excuses, the latest over C/D prior to which I wrote:

Ash Wednesday is going to be hard to beat under his penalty after bolting up at Wolverhampton the other day, but I'm going to give another chance to Vixey.

The selection made the frame twice over 6f at Newcastle in 2022 when qualifying for a mark, and she won on turf (Redcar, 7f, good) during a consistent spell of form for Chris Fairhurst in 2023. It's a concern that she didn't offer much in four starts for Michael Herrington last year, but she didn't shape too badly off a break on her debut for Simon West at Musselburgh (7f, g-s) in November.

I've selected her the last twice at Newcastle, over a mile, a trip she should stay on pedigree but didn't see her race out having been keen on front-end, and last time back at 7f when held-up and never involved but she didn't appear to get much of a run through.

Vixey is now a stone below the mark she started 2024 on and a tongue-tie is applied, so hopefully can give a better account today having hinted that some ability remains in three starts for her current yard, if finding this course suitable on her first attempt here.

Vixey was readily outpaced once the pace lifted off steady fractions, so while she may be better suited to Newcastle, I'm hoping this evening's contest is more evenly run even if that means she has to force the pace herself.

Thanks Dad was also a recent selection on the thread over C/D and he's come in for some early support with that recent return from a break behind him, down in grade and with a visor applied, but I'm just going to stick with Vixey at the prices.

Not one of Roysdelight's better efforts.

Vixey had to settle for 4th place again.

Yes I'm Mali, 1pt EW @ 9-1, 6.15 Southwell

Rebel's Gamble may prove to be different class to his rivals in this, but at the prices I'm going to chance Yes I'm Mali, who ran well to be second over C/D on his penultimate start to one who was completing the second leg of a hat-trick, albeit no match for that rival who's now rated 10lb higher. The selection's latest effort at Newcastle (6f) probably wanted marking up based on how the race panned out when finishing second to one who had the benefit of Warren Fentiman's 7lb claim and challenged stands-side from off the pace, with Cyclonite (who's a pound better off this evening) behind him in third place.

It's a slight concern that Newcastle might be more Yes I'm Mali's track given he'd won his only previous start there and considering how well he stuck to his task back at the Gosforth Park venue, but no hardship to have Warren Fentiman back aboard (who had ridden him for that previous course start), which means he's receiving 19lb from the favourite.

Lion's Dream, 1pt EW @ 25-1, 8.15 Southwell

I'm going to have a speculative pick on Lion's Dream who was absent for 442 days and has probably needed his three runs back since joining Derek Shaw from Mick Appleby, particularly as they've come over trips (6/7f) that have probably been on the sharp side for him. He caught the eye a little on the latest of them over 6f here when he had a wide trip but seemed to keep on okay down the stands-side.

Lion's Dream needs to conclusively prove that some ability remains but the step up to a mile looks a positive for this gelding who was a 10f AW winner on his debut as a 3YO (for Richard Hughes) and he's plummeted in the weights, for example, he's now 20lb lower than when finishing a good third in the Legends' race (one mile, g-s) at Doncaster in 2023.

Yes I'm Mali came off third best in a three-way go for second place behind the comfortable winner.

In the finale, Mickey Mongoose did what I thought he would do back over C/D last-time-out when a selection on the thread, but they can make fools of you and on this occasion I took a chance on a risky one at a price, Lion's Dream, who didn't a clear run when the field came stands-side in the home straight and then offered little.

Unlucky JCM. I don't know tbh, seems a big unit who's presumably had his issues and doesn't look the easiest, but that was a bit better again in a well-run contest to finish 5th over a C&D that may not be his optimum.

Maveric's Magic, 1pt EW @ 8-1, 12.55 Southwell

Maveric's Magic had shaped as though he might be one to keep in mind for low-grade handicaps on his third run for a mark at Wolverhampton (6f) in December 2023, when he set some decent fractions before weakening out of it inside the final furlong. His three handicap runs (2 AW, 1 turf) last year were poor but he ran a lot better after six months off back at Wolverhampton (6f) last month when just failing to get up having had to weave a passage through.

It's a concern that he's since gone back there and disappointed in a classified stakes having been held up and pulled hard, but he's of a little interest here trying 5f again considering how he went through the race on that third qualifying run.

Emily Post, 1pt EW @ 18-1, 4.20 Southwell

Emily Post has been a selection on the threads a couple of times previously having run well here and at Newcastle towards the end of last year. She's failed to get competitive on her last three starts but might have had excuses on the first two occasions (wide draw and keen without cover, then held up off steady fractions and not clear run). There were no excuses on her latest start at Newcastle (6f) but it was a stronger race than today's, the form of which will be tested in the 2.05 on this card.

It's a concern that she doesn't always help herself by taking a grip, and ideally may want a stiffer track with her three career wins having come at Carlisle (7f), Pontefract (6f) and Newcastle (7f), but it was over the 6f trip here in November that she finished a close-up 4th of 11, splitting Ormolulu and Greenham Bay who have won five races between them since.

The selection should be able to get some cover from the inside draw and hopefully can be competitive again on this drop in grade and step back up to 7f.

Nice price you got on Emily GB. I was looking at that one myself but missed the fancy prices (18/1, 20/1) and didn't want to play at 12/1 or 14/1. I was more interested in the place TBH. Although the winner won by a long way, she was maybe unlucky to get stuck behind Jump The Gun when several came stands side but really motored when switched to the middle. One to watch, but everyone 'knows' now!

Cheers Brian & PHS.

I was disappointed when H Key Lails had been declared a NR, as he would have likely set a decent pace in Emily Post's race. Oh well, another couple of seconds, can't complain.

Golden Mind was a selection on the thread last time he ran when he put in an absolute shocker at Wolverhampton, for which he was then dropped 3lb.

So it occurred to me that as one of his good runs last year came on soft ground at Doncaster (7f), perhaps he's being aimed at the Lincoln, for which he has since been entered.

Turns up at Kempton tonight over 6f and wins. There ya go, they can make fools of you (example 109,999).

Crocus Time, 1pt EW @ 14-1, 2.00 Southwell

There are three in this which have been recent selections - Vixey, Lion's Dream and the one I'm going to select at the prices - Crocus Time. She ran well at Kempton (6f) in September when finishing second in a 6f contest that worked out well, and although she was no match for the winner Liosa, he subsequently won off an 8lb higher mark, and the third home, Havana Sky, who admittedly seemed to go off too quickly in front, has won five times since. The fourth and fifth also won subsequently.

The selection wasn't in much form in three starts after, but her next run was excusable on account of heavy ground, and then two poor efforts back on the AW came following a two-month break. However, she ran better on her latest start at Chelmsford (6f) when she likely would have finished closer but for meeting with trouble at a crucial stage.

It's a concern that her better all-weather efforts have come on Polytrack, but she looks worth another try over 7f and hopefully can give a good account if able to reproduce that Kempton form at this venue.

Fast Flo, 1pt EW @ 70-1, 3.30 Southwell

Fast Flo is another who's been a bit of a 'cliff' horse for the threads having probably wanted her effort marking up at Lingfield in November, and although she's a thoroughly exposed and lowly-rated maiden, she hadn't had many chances in sprint races on the all-weather at that point, and she only failed narrowly to lose her maiden tag when selected at Chelmsford last month. Of her two starts since, she ran okay at Wolverhampton, before not running well from the inside draw at Chelmsford last time.

The selection doesn't face an easy task on adjusted ratings in this classified stakes which appears to have a bit of depth to it, and I was hoping that either the headgear would be switched or removed as I'm not convinced the blinkers are now helping, but she may benefit from stronger handling with Kieran O'Neill back on board and replacing an inexperienced 7lb claimer, while the longer straight may also help.
