Apparently James feels sorry for the punters!

probably didn't sleep a wink last night 6699.

It's like he got spooked by the winning line. I'm not vigorous up to the line as I'm trying to stay on the horse – I'm trying to keep the partnership intact as best as I can.

These happened in the most crucial strides of the race and people say I should be suspended, but horses aren't machines.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- OMG he trotted out the old 'horses aren't machines' strap line. |

James Doyle, stop taking us punters as mugs. You didn't push the horse out through the line, and sat up, eased slightly too. I like you as a jockey, but please on this occasion stop with the excuses. I had no investment in the race, but this needs to STOP. Deserves a 3 month ban IMO.

By:
Here's the thing.... If James admitted to the riding mistake, punters wouldn't of been so hard on him. Every Man and woman makes mistakes, it's how we learn. But you decided to make poor excuses, IMO, not impressed.

Amazed the RP covered this. Clearly the line was nothing to see here. Stewards had no courage imo to make right call
|
|
By:
the BHA head honchos treat things like this as a mere bagatelle...
they do not see the damage it does to the sport... they are more interested in inclusion/surveys/silly gimmicks like the one they did when they tried to get a female commentator in to the game (did Hayley Moore not win it ?)... real issues aren't important... more fool them. |

Should be interesting to see if ITV mention it tomorrow….I think Ed Chamberlain will certainly give it a go….weaver unfortunately missed the race…..

i'd rather watch repeats of The One Show than that cr@p tbh. |

The idea that any jockey gives a toss about punters.
Doyle just spouted nonsense after nonsense safe in the knowledge nobody would pull him to pieces. The idea that he had to stop riding for fear of falling off. Any jock in the weighing room should be ashamed to think they would fall off in those circumstances. He's probably having a little chuckle to himself right now. Jocks are very fond of appealing decisions they don't like. If that can happen it should work the other way and the BHA should overturn the idiot Stewards and put this right. Unfortunately, we know they won't. |

spot on differentdrum.

when jockeys/trainers start saying they feel sorry for the mug punters you know they are just trying to cover their tracks...
they don't give a flying fk about mug punters... anyone with a brain cell left knows that. |

Aint that the truth !!

By:
Agree with trident , Doyle would have been far better served fessing up and taking his medicine so leaving any punishment decision with a clear conscience to other people , that way it's fish and chip wrappings fairly quickly as far as Doyle's concerned.
Making excuses was a bad look. |
|
By:
You can only think that he didn't consider it to be 'fish and chip wrappings'. I also think that the further you are up the chain the less likely you are to admit to an 'honest cop', however obvious it might seem.
There's going to be further frustration when the media start bigging him up (again) when they seemingly find it impossible to call this sort of thing out. There's no balance whatsoever. |

We had a discussion on here not long ago about the 'easing' mistakes and riding in finishes.
I'd say it again, easing should be an illegal move entirely (beaten or not) in riding before the finish line - with a few minor exceptions of horses a very long way clear or long way beaten. |
|
By:
By beaten or not I mean whether the horse wins or not.
|
|
By:
There's no balance whatsoever.
-------------------------------- correct differentdrum... all i ever ask for is balance tbh... there ain't none... and it ain't exclusive to horse racing either tbh. |
|
By:
That is what i love about Chapman he is a big fan of Doyles but told him how bad the ride was.
|
|
By:
its up to the telly head honchos to provide balance dd...
how are you going to get 'balance' when you give ex jockeys most of the gigs ? and if it ain't ex jockeys it's jockeys agents / mates of trainers etc... but of course the head honchos know that in the first place... they don't want balance... they wany a one-sided 'all jockeys/trainers are great and do nowt wrong' scenario. |

Doyle is a big jockey who rides for powerful connections. The real corruption is with the pathetic media who refuse to criticise him for easing down and trying to look clever... If that was an apprentice they'd have a completely different take on it. All these so called pundits and journalists want to have access and hang out and interview the big stars.
This is where the unfairly maligned John McCririck is sorely missed. He would've told the truth. |

I bet Chapman has a list of jockey & trainer numbers the length of the M6……fodder are hissing in the wind….
|
|
By:
Stu - quite so, particularly more so these days because one can place bets on 'distances beaten by x lengths' and also with 'betting in running' where pulling a horse could mess up (to put it politely) punters bets.
|
|
By:
yep indeed - plus it would entirely negate all the vagary discussion (would it have won etc etc) if the move was just banned - it often only entails riding out properly for a few extra strides in races, so just ban easing until after the line. Job done.
|
|
By:
Quoting Chapman makes me laugh when it's all part of his act as if he really cares about the integrity of racing.
|
|
By:
Yes sparrow Chapman & Co care mostly about their employment , just like we all did in our working lives

By:
I said at the start of the thread that riding through the line has never ever been policed, and it never will. If some bookmakers are offering 8 places then Stewards should monitor 8 places, not just the standard places. They know a heap of jocks would be called in if they did it properly.
As for Chapman I must have seen a different interview. He didn't criticise Doyle once. He just talked in the third person, 'this is what punters might be thinking.....'. Chapman appears to continually view racing as a vehicle to promote himself. So many interviews end up being about him, and not the interviewee. They all go the same way of him trying desperately hard to be funny, and failing. |
|
By:
If you watch US racing, the jocks basically ride right the way through the line - I haven't checked, but think that might be a clearer ruling over there?
|
|
By:
Spot on dd , don't think i've ever seen an interview without him inviting comments about himself.

|
By:
Quite possibly hayden, but the difference is some on here think they might "tell it as it is" to quote other posters.

Avoiding Pat Eddery and Dettori mounts in placepots was a good strategy. Didn't hear to many complaints about them.
