Cheers Virgin.

Some shockers at Lingfield today. Ashford Hill 125-1 SP and 504 Betfair SP...Just seen that she's a full-sister to Dazy Mazy who I selected on Saturday. So nearly could have been a famous quiz question, which two sisters won at 33-1 and 125-1 within 4 days of each other? Alas though, Dazy Mazy could only finish third.

Benacre, 1pt EW @ 16-1, 5.00 Southwell (4 PLACES)

Benacre hasn't won since his juvenile days and hasn't been in much form of late so it takes a leap of faith to back him, though soft ground might not have been ideal the last twice. This will be just his fourth start on the all-weather and he's of interest based on the penultimate one of them which came in the Lincoln Trial at Wolverhampton (8.5f) back in March when rated 13lb higher and finishing third, his effort perhaps wanting marking up given he fared best of the prominent-racers with the other prinicipals having been held up in rear.

The selection's only start on synthetics since came at Newcastle (one mile) in August when he didn't help himself by taking a keen hold and he was a spent force up the home straight. There obviously has to a question mark over whether he's in any sort of form to take advantage of his reduced mark and he is now eligible for weaker races than this one, but he looks worth chancing at the odds considering that good effort in the Lincoln Trial and he hasn't many chances on synthetics.

Albert Lasker, 1pt EW @ 10-1, 8.00 Southwell

Albert Lasker has been quite a drifter in the betting so far today for whatever reason, but he's been running well in defeat of late and shapes as though he's worth a crack at this evening's two mile, half-furlong trip.

* fifth start on the all-weather for Benacre
By:

When: 21 Nov 24 21:40
Benacre, who had posted RPRs of 98 (twice) and 96 from just four starts on the all-weather, looked potentially interesting back on a synthetic surface off his reduced mark, but there was a question mark over whether he'd be in the form to take advantage having been running poorly on turf, and he wasn't, weakening out of it once headed under 2f out.

I'm not sure why there was a big drift in the betting throughout the day concerning Albert Lasker, but he ran his race, going down by a neck to the odds-on fav who had forced him over to the stands' side, but given the winning margin of a neck the result was allowed to stand following a stewards' enquiry.

Vixey, 1pt EW @ 35-1, 6.40 Newcastle

Vixey is a half-sister to the dual C&D winner Velma, and she too had suggested in a couple of runs here as a juvenile over 6f (when trained by the now retired Chris Fairhurst) that may be capable of winning at this course, paticularly when stepped up in trip given the stamina on the dam's side of her pedigree.

The selection ran well in four starts over 7f during her 3YO campaign for Fairhurst, winning a weak Redcar maiden and finishing runner-up on three occasions in turf handicaps. It's a concern that she offered little in four starts this year for Michael Herrington, including twice back here over 6/7f,  however, she didn't shape too badly on her debut for Simon West seventeen ago at Musselburgh (7f, g-s) when returning from over five months off, having travelled a bit keenly before keeping on okay to finish 6th of 12, albeit not able to go with the first five home.

Vixey needs to go the right way from that encouraging stable debut and her draw in two might not be great, but she's 9lb below the mark she started the year on and hopefully this step up to a mile can suit if settling fine.

Ecclesiastical, 1pt EW @ 16-1, 7.25 Wolverhampton

Ecclesiastical is running in a higher grade than he needs to be in this evening, but that was also the case when he ran in a 0-91 at Nottingham (5f, heavy) last month where he ran well enough to suggest that a 7lb rise for winning over this evening's C/D the time before might not prove beyond him, having travelled with his usual zest and led over a furlong out he was only headed around the half-furlong marker by one who raced solo towards the far side, before losing second / third in the closing stages to a couple who challenged up the stands-side.

The selection could only finish 4th of 6 on his first visit to Newcastle on his latest start in a 0-85 but perhaps that stiff track doesn't suit as well as this one where he is a dual course winner, and he has been dropped a pound since. This is likely to be run at a strong gallop and hopefully he can get a nice tow into it from a handy draw in four.

GL George, going to give my old nemesis Intervention a go ew in the 6.55 Wolves. He has 9 of the best 10 speed ratings at the course by any of these runners in the last 18 months. Whether that counts for anything we will see!Cool

Vixey should have no trouble staying a mile based on the dam's side of her pedigree but didn't see the trip out at all here having been a bit keen on the sharp-end.

No excuses for Ecclesiastical who had the perfect trip based on how the race panned out but didn't see his race out.

Dahab, 1pt EW @ 5-1, 4.55 Dundalk

Dahab, who had been running well in maidens, put in an absolute shocker when I selected him two starts back on my juvenile hurdler thread, though might have had an excuse on account of the softer going which he was encountering for the first time, and he ran better last time back on the level here over 10.5f when he wasn't helped by a wide draw but still ran creditably to finish 4th in first-time cheekpieces (retained), one place and a neck behind the well-backed Tribal Star, with Inthesmallhours (who was making his debut) putting in some eyecatching late-headway to finish just a neck further back in fifth.

There shouldn't be much between the three of them again and it could boil down to which of them appreciates the 12f trip round here the most and what improvement Inthesmallhours may find, but I'm going to give another chance to Dahab as he had to do plenty early on to get a position in that contest and has shaped as though worth a try over today's trip.

It's just a three horse race though with Henry de Bromhead running the winning hurdler / chaser Bowmore, who's related to some useful sorts on the Flat, and the selection's trainer Denis Hogan also runs Sportingsilvermine with Colin Keane booked.

Rockview Consort, 1pt EW @ 16-1, 5.25 Dundalk (4 PLACES)

Rockview Consort who has a decent record round here with a maiden win and four places from nine starts, didn't shape too badly back here last-time-out on her third run following a seven-month break when fading to finish fifth having been ridden prominently, with a subsequent course winner finishing just behind her. She's ridden again by Cian Murphy, who's 0-29, but he looked tidy enough in the saddle aboard her last time and can claim 10lb on this occasion against fully-fledged jcokeys having claimed 7lb in that apprentice handicap.

The selection has a wide draw to overcome and it could be that this winner over hurdles might ideally be served by further nowadays have gone close here over two miles in February, but a chance is taken each-way at the odds, with her fitness now assured and her yard going okay.

Rockview Consort (20-1) kept on well for third place having been prominent throughout.

The code-switcher Bowmore was heavily supported on his Flat debut, but it was the 10.5f maiden course form from 12 days ago that came to the fore with Tribal Star defeating Inthesmallhours, however, the one who should have been in the mix based on that previous form, Dahab, looked in trouble over four furlongs out, in a contest that was run in a time over three seconds slower than the closing handicap over the same trip, and he just didn't run any sort of race for whatever reason.

Ghostman, 1pt EW @ 9-1, 6.30 Wolverhampton (4 PLACES)

Ghostman ran disappointingly last time at Newcastle (6f), but he might have had excuses as he was keen, got squeezed out between rivals and stumbled early on in the race, ended up towards the rear and was never in it thereafter. He'd been running well in defeat prior to that having twice gone down by under length when finishing second at Newcastle over 5 and 6f, and four starts back he seemed to do well to finish a close-up 4th here over 5f having endured quite a wide trip.

Ghostman is eligible for slightly weaker races than this one and it has to be hoped the disappointing run last time wasn't down to more than just a difficult trip, with it being possible that any benefit derived from the blinkers, which he's worn five times, has now worn off, but as the effort last time can be forgiven then he may be worth another chance, particularly given his sole previous effort at this track probably wanted marking up.

Ghostman, who was very well backed, was too keen for his own good again and that probably cost him late on as he surrendered 4th place. If that was a stable gamble, perhaps worth noting that on this rider restricted card, the four that finished ahead of him all had claimers on, and 6 of the 9 races on the card were won by apprentice jockeys.

So perhaps those claims counting for more than usual when the better jocks aren't around?

I hadn't noticed the claimer angle, something to keep an eye on. Piranha Rama couldn't get in from his stall position and was caught too wide for too long to have anything left in the finishCool

An apprentice claiming at least 3lb last night, Cobs, and they probably would have got the place money, well, if they didn't run away with, that is.
Good luck today.

Dazy Mazy, 1pt EW @ 10-1, 5.30 Newcastle

I'm going to select Dazy Mazy again who did the thread a favour when placing at 33-1 (SP) here over 6f last month, when I wrote:

Dazy Mazy might have needed a couple of runs back following a three-month break and she hinted last time out at Newmarket that she may be finding some form, and is now back on the mark she won off at Doncaster in June. She's of a little interest here now tried again on the all-weather having shaped with promise in three of her four starts on Tapeta from 5 to 7 furlongs, including at this course, and might have had an excuse when last seen in this sphere at Wolverhampton in February when she raced wide and was reported to have hung right-handed throughout.

As last time, the selection is eligible for weaker races than this one and has been weak in the betting, but is back against her own sex today and looks worth another try over 7f having shaped better than the bare result over C/D two winters ago on her sole previous attempt at the trip.

Milliethemollie, 1pt EW @ 66-1, 2.25 Lingfield (4 PLACES)

I'm going to have a speculative pick on Milliethemollie who wasn't in much form when last seen over seven weeks ago and is very much the stable's second string here according to the betting and probably on jockey bookings too.

She ended her time in Ireland with a 6f nursery win at Dundalk in December, and she's of a little interest here based on her debut run for Tony Carroll over C/D on the Good Friday card when she didn't face an easy task in a 0-80 but ran well in the circumsatnces considering she'd been very free to post (and had to be checked over by the vet before being allowed to take part) and in the race did plenty on the front-end but only lost second place inside the last half-furlong before fading to finish 5th.

The selection had her chances after and ran okay in defeat on occasions, and of her two runs back at this course on the Polytrack, she probably has excuses when turned out quickly on the back of that Good Friday effort, though could have fared better when only finishing 6th of 9 in July.

Milliethemolliie is 10lb lower now than for that Good Friday run and perhaps the short break she's had might help given that effort came when fresh.

Gold Aura, 1pt EW @ 9-1, 2.55 Lingfield (4 PLACES)

Gold Aura is still a maiden after 22 starts but can't be faulted for consistency having finished runner-up 8 times and third twice from 12 starts on the all-weather, although the second place last time out here over two miles when beaten for 22 lengths counted for nothing in a farce of a race.

I was thinking that there might be an angle in with her over 14f+ as she had twice done well to finish second over 14f at Wolverhampton and Southwell in races that didn't set up for horses coming from off the pace, particularly on the latter occasion when having been keen too.

The selection is back in trip to 12f today but has run well over shorter trips, and hopefully will give her running again, with David Probert a fresh pair of hands taking over in the plate.

Noisy Music, 1pt EW @ 8-1, 6.40 Kempton

There are some interesting stable-switchers in this contest but Noisy Music makes some appeal at the prices, though does have her stamina to prove at a mile. She beat a subsequent winner on her penultimate start over 7f at Wolverhampton in September, and back over that C/D for her latest start she was only caught in the final strides by an unexposed James Fanshawe-trained filly, with her effort perhaps wanting marking up conisdering she had duelled with the odds-on favourite from two furlongs out and that rival ended up dropping out of the places.

Regarding stamina, she is related to winners over 12f and two miles, but as she's by Showcasing this evening's trip is a query, however, a chance is taken as she may have more to offer on synthetics after just five all-weather starts.

Milliethemollie was keen under restraint and never involved before making a little late headway.

Gold Aura (14-1 SP, 5p Rule 4) made the frame again in what appeared quite a well-run contest with the first four pulling clear, and the way she stuck on here suggested she'll be worth another try over further.

Noisy Music had every chance, traded fairly short in the run, but found one too good.

Renesmee, 1pt EW @ 12-1, 4.10 Chelmsford (4 PLACES)

Renesmee has been running well since joining Alice Haynes, and although she could only finish fifth last time at Lingfield (10f), she still shaped as though in form when probably not suited by the steady gallop and being caught wide but still going on at the finish. The selection had previously finished second off a pound lower mark over this evening's C/D when she had three of today's rivals in behind, and both the winner and third from that contest have run well in defeat since to make the frame.

Renesmee has been weak in the betting today for whatever reason, but she seems likley to run her race, and gets the vote at the prices.

Glitterella, 1pt EW @ 17-2, 6.10 Chelmsford (4 PLACES)

Glitterella seemed to be improving in the summer when posting a couple of RPRs in the mid to high 70s, at Haydock (6f, good) where she hung left under two furlongs out and was headed but then showed good resolution to regain second place, and although no match for the winner, he had become well handicapped and was evidently ready to do his best on returning from a long absence and a wind-op; then at Bath (5f, g-f) where she only went down by a short-head, and the filly who was just behind her in third place, subsequently went down by just a nose in a stronger handicap at Chester.

The selection's last two runs need forgiving, but easier ground might not have suited at Salisbury, and on her latest start at Wolverhampton she wasn't helped by being caught wide. Hopefully she's benefited from a short break and a 2lb drop in the ratings can help.
