The gap was there when he went for it but Danny didn't have the horse under him to hold his position, but he did nothing wrong in going for it.
It was also fresh ground around the inner, so why should he go to the outer and risk being on the poached ground where you could actually see puddles in the hoof prints, so badly poached was the ground out there. |

P Mullins has admitted that he left enough room for a horse to come on his inside at that part of the track. The curious element for me therefore is that he initially tried to push D Mullins off the track. Before relenting just in time. That is deliberate dangerous riding, which risked a DQ I'd have thought. The fact that D Mullins was instructed not to try and take the opportunity, but did it anyway is not relevant to the actual events transpiring during the race.

P Mullins has always come across pretty well to me, given his privileged position, but in his deliberate public display of 'billy big boots', aimed to demonstrate to everyone watching who is in charge, he let himself down imho. Most jocks can only dream of landing a grade 1 over their entire career, but his first thought is to put someone back in their place in the pecking order in front of everyone, as he sees it.

He is actually telling him what HE is going to do at the second last... "I told Danny going out that there will be a gap down my inside at the second-last, do not come for it. He hasn't listened to me." Jockey on fav orders jockey on second fav not to go for gap. |

Think Patrick was angry that the tote offered 4 signed photos in their Xmas competition.and wanted to show he too can sign photos.

amateur jockey lays the law down to a pro riding for the same stable ... . wow . imagine if mr p mullins was actually being paid to ride .....imagine that .

Patrick be telling Charlie Mullins and Jody Townend where they can go and where they're not allowed to go in the bumper tomorrow.

"I told Jody going out that there will be a gap down my inside turning for home, do not come for it. She hasn't listened to me."

Patrick V Danny in a fight only one Winner there.
By:
In the last 5 seasons Patrick has won nearly e4 million , some Pros will NEVER win that in their life's , so I'd say he has a lot more experience than most and is fully entitled to have his say, which in my opinion has been taken completely out of context by people on here who don't understand race riding ...

To use one’s stripes,is not very classy,
Oi move over Danny ot I ll tell me dad, ain’t the best way to manage the staff. |
By:
rider. one last thing. ok.
if he hadn't gone for the gap. and that turned out to be the difference between winning and losing the race. he's interviewed after the race. why did you not go for the gap ?? because the jockey on the winner told me before the race i wasn't allowed. can you see that might look quite bad ?? |
By:
Hulk, what if he HAD and they both fell, I'm sure it would be your cue to come on here and blame the IRISH jockeys , with people like you who only see the negative there's no point in me saying anything, you'll only see the negative side of things...Patrick was livid because he could see the implications of what COULD happen and advised Danny accordingly but Danny ignored him...
By:
workrider, while you're right to say there is context to this, the "what if he HAD and they both fell" 'excuse' is, with respect, complete bollox.
What's the jock on him going to say when they're flying downhill towards the third last at Cheltenham doing about 40 mph... Oi mate, don't go there or else we both may fall ![]() |
By:
so they swing off the bend, and the jockey on the inside in the yellow and blue silks has been instructed by the jockey in the Ricci silks not to take that gap in front of him ?? what sort of rules are these please ??

George I have great respect for you and always found your posts entertaining and enjoyable , but I think you have missed the whole point of this , okay here we go, a normal morning on the gallops , Danny and Patrick riding out their mounts for the following day,Patrick to Danny see tomorrow you know how that track at Limerick is a bit iffy at the second last , Danny yes I do, well I'm going to move out and leave a gap but I'm going to cut back in just after jumping it , so be very careful if you are going to go up my inside. That my friend is normally how things work, after all they are both riding for the same trainer , so the idea is to stay safe , as Isay its been taken out of context..Off to study for Leopardstown tomorrow , good night and God bless...

danny to patrick ... would it not be much easier if you didn't bother cutting back in just after jumping it if you see me on your inside ?? |

Ffs What do you think they were discussing in the weighing room Pre race……..what’s for tea ? Dreadful scenes imo….. |
By:
Some seem to be mixing up what Patrick said with what he should have said imo.
Patrick never mentioned safety or getting us killed, his actual words were, " I wanted to get a breather into him so I said to Danny there will be a gap up the inside at the second last don't come up it." "He could have got the two of us beat" Again no mention of safe or killed , But breather and beat are the two words I take out of it. |
By:
Riders would have to plan a gap up the inside at any jump…..imv
By:
What's Patrick doing saying anything to Danny or any other jockey. Surely any other jockey is allowed to go anywhere they want on the track. Does he think he owns it? Treating a fellow jockey as if he's thick. He needs reining in.
By:
What Patrick really meant of course was I'm trying to win this as easy as possible don't you dare take me on for the lead.
By:
Correct slickster, there is no way any jockey should be telling any other rider where to go or not to go, he should get a ban for the comments and actions.
By:
This isn't a team sport, even that rubbish concept they have at Ascot in September...
This would be OK if it was an old hand giving a youngster some post race advice, with the safety aspect in mind. It's jockey A telling off jockey B, because jockey B didn't follow the plans told to him by jockey A. These plans where jockey A would win the race. |
By:
But at the end of the day it doesn't really matter who said or meant what or whether Danny was told to ride for second anyway because we all know the IHRB will have no stomach for it and sweep it all under the carpet with a paltry fine or two suspension with no mention of the obvious fixing of the positions.
By:
Two day suspension ^

imagine nico getting onto a chair in the leopardstown weighing room and telling he irish jocks his plans for riding an english trained fav in a big race there and expecting them to follow his request to the letter.he would be on his arze before 3 fences.
as for saying patrick has won so many million euros race riding so he is entitled to state his demands.even more tosh.if he wasnt riding for his dad he wouldnt be able to afford a good holiday. |
By:
So we have 2 members of the same family. Both trained by another member of same family. And one telling the other what not to do on the track. And it's an amateur telling the pro ffs. Where's Patrick's brain? If this happened in America you could be looking at a life ban or certainly a few years. Of course it wouldn't happen in America because they know the consequences. What will be done about this by irish authorities? We all know diddly squat. Patrick you're an idiot.
