Any view on Stratford Tonight George? With the favourite out, Mutara will be short but should win imo.

sageform, my only qualifier is Intriguing Lady who was beaten the length of a potato field last time. It might help that she doesn't have to face Mucuna this time, but an official rating of 81 in this sphere says it all.

A 3yo ran in an all-aged handicap a few days ago. 7-4f and beaten about 30 lengths, the ones that have run thus far are platers at best imo. |

I guess that's why some of them are over hurdles at this early stage of the season and their careers, there just isn't much hope for them as racehorses. |

The owner of Mucuna should give Milton a big bonus for getting 4 wins and £20k out of a 49 flat horse. The night before its debut it was 16-1 most places, looked again 30 mins later and it was 7s so left it alone.

I didn't have a bet or even watch the race but Flintstone barely stayed a mile on the flat!

i shan't be rushing to back any of those in future George although Jenny Powell does buy good horses. Perhaps Flintstone is a late developer or just enjoyed jumping.

I went to a Hills shop to back Bridgehead(3.50) @ 16s e/w.....all the feckin shops are shut.

Bright Blue, 1pt EW @ 15-2, 3.50 Ballinrobe I selected him on his hurdling debut last time when he finished fourth behind a couple of today's rivals at Killarney. He jumped and travelled well, and I'm hoping the run was needed, as he didn't quite see his race out, fading to fourth from the second last. I thought he appreciated the bit of give there was in the ground on his final Flat start for Ed Bethell at Pontefract, so not sure he'd want the ground to dry out, but hopefully he has benefited from that initial hurdling experience. An experienced 7lb claimer takes over in the saddle, who I presume is connected to the stable and will know the horse well from home. |

Unlucky DG, good shout.
My pick didn't seem to hurdle as well as he had on his debut, but still looked a threat when switched to the outer to jump the last, but he made another error there and that was it, he folded tamely to end up finishing 4th. It's possible he has stamina issues for this game, or might need softer ground. Running P/L: -4.75 |

There are two 3YO hurdle races today, one at Listowel and one at Plumpton.
I have a couple of previous selections running in the one at Listowel - The Insider and Bright Blue - but I'm not sure about the ground for Bright Blue, who hasn't seen his race out both times I've selected him, and I'll pass at the prices for the former. I Have A Voice, 1pt win @ 11-2, 2.50 Plumpton I just have the one qualifier in this and that's I Have A Voice, who I actually selected on my Flat thread when he made his stable debut at Nottingham last month, but unfortunately he finished tailed off. Hopefully that run was needed following a two month break, over a two mile trip that might have stretched him on the Flat. He had previously been in good form for Jim Bolger, winning well over 10f at Leopardstown (good) in June, and then finishing a good second off a 10lb higher mark when stepped up in trip to 11.5f at Listowel (good) later that month, in what appeared a solidly run contest. He's a half-brother to the ill-fated Repetitio, who did well for this yard as a juvenile hurdler and ended his 3YO campaign by winning a class 3 handicap at Cheltenham. So there is certainly encouragement from his pedigree for this switch of code. |

DG, the 2 the yard have got from Bolger that run on the Flat this season were absolutely friendless in the betting before running stinkers, and a similar story here regards the betting. Market vibes not good.

The market knew there, around 7-2 this morning, think around 16s at the off on here. He was the highest-rated in the field off the Flat, but you could have had 2-1 in the 3TP market at the off.
He raced keenly and if he'd been like that on the way to post, maybe that might have sparked a drift. He wasn't knocked about from the home bend and you couldn't see from the camera angles shown after the last how much effort was made to get third place. Running P/L: -5.75 |

Batchelor Hall who writes volumes on juvenile hurdlers has it as the strongest prospect and summarises "The Churchill Lad does have a penalty to shoulder and also has a bit to find with a few rivals on flat form. Nevertheless, his experience at Cartmel should stand him in good stead here, the race could be ran to suit, and with the yard amongst the winners at Perth this week, The Churchill Lad holds decent prospects in a fairly weak renewal of this contest."
Important to say that he never tips horses as such. |

Exciting News, 1pt win @ 2-1, 2.18 Market Rasen
I've just got the one qualifier in this and that's Exciting News, for whom it's a bit of a surprise to see turn up over hurdles, but it's the same owners and stable-switch as made by the very useful Allmankind, who joined the Skelton stable from Michael Bell. I suppose stamina is a query for her, but no doubt she'll be well prepared coming from this yard. My "mark-up" run for her was her latest one in early July over 8.5f at Beverley, so I think she was in better form when last seen than her form figure might suggest. |

You beat me to it with Exciting News George. I am a big fan of the Gredley family horses that have run over jumps. Allmankind and Stepney Causeway are recent successes for them with Skelton. Just Another One is a big danger.

Cheers sageform. It was looking ominous when Brian Hughes was sat in behind, travelling well and looking behind for dangers, but that one found zilch. Agree about the stamina, but she got away with it today.

My Boy Jack, 1pt EW @ 50-1, 1.35 Sedgefield
I have two qualifiers in this - McTigue and My Brother Jack. McTigue was a selection on my Flat thread when he was a running-on third at Gowran when stepped up in trip 12.5f, and has since finished a respectable third in a premier handicap over 14f at Killarney. He's since left Jim Bolger's yard and this 97-rated gelding would appear to have obvious claims for a juvenile hurdle round Sedgefield on his debut for his respected new connections. This is no straightforward task though as he faces Bringbackmemories, himself useful on the Flat with a rating of 83, and he made a good start to his hurdling career when finishing second to the useful early season juvenile hurdler The Insider at Down Royal. The other one in the market is Vintage Valley, rated 65 on the level when trained by Andrew Balding, and he makes his debut here for Donald McCain. I marked up a run of my selection My Boy Jack at Catterick in July over 12f, and he has since gone on to land a few bets in a slowly-run amateur riders' contest over 14f at Wolverhampton. He faces a massive task here based on Flat ratings being officially rated 44lb inferior to McTigue, but he comes here fit and in-form, and while it's a pity there's only the seven runners, he gets a speculative vote EW. |

While the person who writes screeds has not commented, one other has and includes " Mctigue will surely be hard to beat.Leopardstown 1m Maiden winner at two, beaten less than two lengths in a 1m6f Premier Handicap at Killarney off 98 last time out, unless he’s lost a leg in the €125,000 switch from Jim Bolger’s yard. he could probably flatten every flight of hurdles tomorrow and still win this."
Let's see if he turns with four legs and manages to flatten each flight without falling. Good luck with the 50/1 -if it comes in, it's better than a shade of odds on. |
