Only a matter of time before a BBC or ITV journalist is killed live on tv......why do bosses allow them to report the news in the most dangerous of situations.....absolutely barmy imo.

They could be a bit more vocal dave.

Well this seems to be precisely addressing a major problem with russian sanctions

LISBON/MADRID (Reuters) - Spanish and Portugese officials called on Thursday for Europe to cooperate more closely on managing energy supplies after major producer Russia's invasion of Ukraine heightened fears of disruptions.

Unlike many of the countries on the continent, which in total relies on Russia for 40% of its gas, neither country on the Iberian peninsula counts Russia among its main providers.

Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Costa said on Thursday that the Portuguese deep-water port of Sines - the closest European port to the United States, "has the infrastructure to host and export natural gas to Europe".

Costa told a news conference this would allow energy imports from the United States and Africa.

In Madrid, Energy and Environment Minister Teresa Ribera referred to the fact that Spain has Europe's biggest capacity to unload seaborne liquefied natural gas (LNG), without saying exactly how this would be used.

It is "vital to reinforce coordination regarding where cargoes from other countries can unload," she said.

From how I understand it. This is all about Ukraine wanting to join Nato. They have a corrupt political system so they should be told a straight no. This would probably put an end to it and Putin would withdraw his troops. WW3 could then postponed until a much later date!

ukraine was the 3rd largest nuclear power. if it still was this wouldnt be happening. it was persuaded to give them after being given 'assurances' (nb, not guarantees) of its territorial integrity and bribed with cheap russian gas, which rasputin now uses as a weapon.

They've just spent years agreeing to rely on them for energy dave, now they've called their ambassador in for a chat. He holds more cards than them short term. They are not very savvy, if this blows over energy supplies will still be at risk for the foreseeable future.

Putin has said that if the west tries to intervene they will suffer consequences not yet experienced...or words to that effect!!

So how much has he lost the plot, I listened to some "expert" the other day stating that Putin was not a madman, he was an opportunist! Well, he's lurching more toward the madman side now, if things got bad for Putin and he felt humiliation, what would he be capable of?? Could it be that if the unthinkable became a possible there would be a faction from within that rested power away from him?

the problem is that pootin has built his power around kleptocracy - those who could unseat him have too much to lose.

Russia has been highly critical of Ukraine’s attempt to join the NATO defence alliance, stating that the expansion of the group eastwards would cause “security threats” to the country.

President Putin has claimed that the US broke a 1990 guarantee that they would not allow NATO to expand any further East, claiming that the US had “deceived” Russia.

NATO has expanded into central and eastern European since 2004, including four countries - Poland, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia - who share a border with Russia.

He has also accused NATO of providing Ukrainian forces with weapons in the ongoing conflict

The guy is already seething. Why push him any further?

rasputin is a 22-year dictator and president for life. he uses the judiciary to close down all opposition and his secret police to break every international law. he exports corruption and and mayhem. he murders all who stand up to him, wherever they are. he bullies and attacks small states like the baltics with massive cyber-warfare, interferes in foreign elections, pours out millions of false messages from troll farms while cracking down on his own media.

he ignores agreements, manufactures grievances and complains the west is out to get him. like everything he says, its all lies. he faces no threat from ukraine, or nato. what he fears is a free ukraine that shines a light on his grotesque kleptocracy that has massively enriched him and his chums, who use the state as a giant piggy bank. its no accident that he stole crimea in 2014 the year after ukraine made noises about joining the well-known aggressive nazi organisation, the e.u. that was it for him.

thats when we should have done everything we could to stop him. instead we came up with mealy-mouthed platitudes and he laughed. he only respects power. 8 years on he is emboldened by appeasement. it didnt work with adolf, and wont here. hes on record as saying ukraine is not a real country and belongs to russia. hes been biting off bits of ukraine ever since.

the nonsense about nato is a red herring. his actions in the baltic have made sweden nervous and they are beefing up their armed forces and thinking of joining nato. whys that? because nato is a defensive alliance and its founding principle is that no member will attack another, and if one is attacked, then all the others will defend it. that why rasputin hates it. he had to act to stop ukraine even getting near it, even though it was a long way off.

how the ukraine must regret being deceived into giving up its nuclear capability. we wouldnt be here otherwise

The guy wants control to build a stronger Russian and hold the west to ransom. Sooner oil and Gas is replaced by a more sustainable source, the weaker they become.

Think Europe-EU-UK should all stick together , UK on its own will be easing pickings for Russia and a bit like Belarus would be a ideal platform to attack Europe from the West.
Huge Russian money in London , just look at Chelsea Football club , Russia is planted here already .

I might have Chicken Kyiv for lunch. Its very important that we stand with our ancient ally Ukraine at this time. Our banking corporations need an injection of funds that privatisation of that country might bring and we must maintain the push for Ukrainian 5yo's to be educated in the basics of LBGT culture

It comes to something when the HoP all fall into line agreeing varying forms of sanctions, but cant find the balls to say we go in, infact nobody can.
Because we only do war against tiddlers nowadays without an airforce, if they are big enough to have planes and helicopters we let them have sanctions instead.
The modern British Soldier is simply a hybrid of a social worker, soup kitcher operative, sand bag carrier and general governmental overspill dogsbody.

“Fear not Ukrainians, the people who locked their citizens in their homes for two years, killed them, terrorised them, paid the press to lie to them and subjected children to dangerous medical experiments are coming to save you from this tyranny.”

I think they have got it all upside down

The commentators said Ukraine wouldnt be allowed into NATO because of Russia.
Thats exactly why they WOULD want to join.
Finding the excuse for them not to be in NATO because everyone would be forced to act is the cop out of cop outs.
