The 3 Pakistanis were found guilty, in court, of conspiracy.

But it's the sport's authorities which concern me here. They didn't p1ss around with 6 months, and you can still hang around the team. They were banished from organized cricket completely. Couldn't even play club cricket, for a decade.

Incredibly lenient IMO.

Jockey Maxime Tissier was given nine-month ban after placing a few bets in races he wasn't involved in and in the process paid the wages for a P/T member of staff at the bookies he placed them.

(You were right and I was wrong, elise; the middleman with the Pak cricketers WAS a bookmaker; the NOTW was indeed that bad.)

6 months and 6 months suspended in line with my expectations - his words afterwards and confirmation that he won't be appealing for me are genuine and like he said he'll come back a better person, in the meantime I hope measures are in place to support his staff.

Its quite funny when people just idly accept the s*it

I'd be fuming, knocking down traffic lights on my way to the tw*ts house that fined and banned me

Why wouldn't he accept it SS? He got off lightly!

BHA response to penalty imposed by Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board on trainer Gordon Elliott

Following confirmation regarding the 12-month suspension –- the last six months of which are suspended –- imposed by the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board (IHRB) on Irish-licensed trainer Gordon Elliott, the British Horseracing Authority (BHA) has issued the following statement:

We welcome the fact that the Irish authorities have acted swiftly. The suspension will be reciprocated here in Great Britain. The existing restriction on Mr Elliott having runners in Great Britain will stay in place until the suspension takes effect on 9 March.

The IHRB Referrals Committee pointed to the fact that the photo showed appalling bad taste and demonstrates a complete absence of respect for the horse. We endorse these comments, and the view that respect is an integral and essential part of the duty of those in charge of animals.

Today’s decision confirms that horses will not be able to run at the Cheltenham Festival or Grand National Festival in the name of Gordon Elliott.

However, if horses are transferred directly to other licensed trainers prior to 9 March – when the suspension is due to commence –- they will be able to run.

it's the trainers offering support that disappoints me. Are they saying it's ok to have a pic sitting on a dead horse.
One of those was hen, happy for snaps sitting on the remains of best mate ?

For the non horse racing population, the offence is equivalent to a care home worker having a pic sitting on a recently deceased 91 year old lady from Dundee.
Were that to happen, 6 months  receiving pay, (but via a different name on the pay check).

If we can't police racing effectively, it will be taken out of our hands by the anti racing faction.

I was of the opinion he needed a big punishment and am more or less satisfied with the judgement today but if it's just a name change over the door and business as usual then feck that.

He needs to be barred from the premises during his ban imo or It's just a joke.

Its similar to another case a few years back

We all know he'll still be training them from his bedroom window ffs, he just wont be at the races

Its quite sad really, the media made a meal of it and as usual there's nothing really happened

I'd still be tearing down the cants door after the so called ban though

Get a grip FFS,I was as angry as anybody, never had a suspect tried and convicted by a baying bunch of idiotic hounds though. The punishment is meted out,let him get on with serving it without your twisted minds?

Just hope your collars are not felt and a trial conducted by your peers?

probably wise of GE not to open up another scandal by sticking a name up, especially if it's the one being rumoured the other day

I love horses, and I love this sport, I have since watching night nurse and sea pigeon with my grandad in the 70's.
But this leaves a very bad taste, I would quite happily join together with other like minded people to withdraw our finance via betting.
We have more influence than we realise, because without betting funds, the sport is in trouble.
Tomorrow, I will watch racing, but in protest I will not be betting. This was not the only example of this sort of behaviour, it's just that GE was stupid enough caught on camera.
The sentence passed today was a joke.

I wonder was Elliott asked could there be anything else that might come out that could damage racing .
It's a very important question imo because if he said no and something else does surface then it paints a completely new picture on the man and his running of his stables.
