social distancing..no car travel unless essential..so,if the lockdown continues,are the government going to inform the bha,ok,organise a meeting for 1st may,allowing probably at least 100 people to drive to the designated racecourse?
or am i losing the plot? |

Think we are under estimating how far away 1st may is...if this lockdown runs its 3 weeks...thats 14th Apr
If it gets extended another 3 weeks then NO is the winner. But if they say another 2 week extension on the 14th...and then up and running again (obviously sports behind closed doors) You could make provisions to start the 28th...but realistically with it being a Tuesday they might start the next Monday which would mean NO? But they may well give Newmarket the green light to run a 20 race card over the Friday-Sat-Sun then YES wins? YES probably isnt fantastic value but it cant be dismissed as a 100/1 poke like people are acting on here. |

These big events being cancelled later in the year will just be about the amount of time/money that could be lost in the run up to them.Cant see insurance companies wanting to get involved so would be a financial disaster if it did drag on till then.

me personally like ive said all week...how can you possibly relax the lockdown whilst tens of thousands are still infected,surely if it was its going to escalate rapidly and end up worse than now?
i fully understand the countries economy is in danger of collapsing but can you put the economy before a massive death toll? I think the 1.2 is huge..but who's keep putting lumps in to stay at 1.2? |

You can only relax the lock down when you've got a real handle on how many people are out there that haven't been infected yet, we've heard all along about this mythical 23-40 million that have had it, based on what?? what test have we done???
No one knows how many people have "had it". Iceland tested 20% of their population and only 1% of those tested had antibodies!!! |

The absolute earliest racing can restart is 1st May. That bit has already been decided.
Gove was very clear to say in his Saturday briefing that lockdown has been about buying time for the UK to add ICU capacity. That to me said that we were moving back towards the herd immunity thinking that Prof Neil Ferguson had also spoken about earlier on Saturday, saying we had painted ourselves into a corner with lockdown with no clear exit strategy. This morning there is more talk about how little impact closing schools has on the spread of the virus. There is a definite desire to open things up, but when that time comes it will be on a little-by-little basis, and no-one so far has mentioned where sport fits in that desire. I can't imagine it is a desperately high priority, personally. What has been said, though, is that other social distancing measures will still need to be observed, eg 2m separation, at least to begin with. Anybody thinking we're going to squash it in the way the Chinese are claiming they have is taking a rather simplistic view, IMHO. All we are trying to do is flatten the curve and keep the NHS operating within capacity. We're not trying to eradicate it completely. The moment you start widespread international travel again, the moment it will kick off once more. |

lifting measures would allow virus to run rampant possibly killing millions gove just been on saying virus capability is "truly frightening " so the view on this is ever changing from gov according to medics that matter they expect to peak and have a slower decline so i think they expect measures to be in place till end may , i think they would be in any case if only as a safety measure , china been 3 months and i would say they are the model most predictions are based on with being first to get virus |

Swaddled was right with his timetable..lockdown was until April 14th but would be reviewed before that date to see if the restrictions would be lifted or extended from the 14th and as we stand 100% sure to be extended for another time period (time unknown at the moment) and then that extension would be reviewed some days before it expires..in the real world that is how reviewing decisions work

William Hill furloughed shop staff a few weeks ago, the next level of management above that, are BPM'S, they were working from home until sunday, when they were furloughed until the 31st May. now that's a date that isn't set in stone but to me, it kind of says nothing much will happen in William Hills opinion till at least then.

yes tom..its just incredible..its 1.01 on the lay for the lockdown to be extended..deaths and infection rate still rising france and spain...
ive considered that swad..but we are only but guessing as to that scenario. |

i think almost all will be doing a month to month review just makes more sense
Wimbledon , the open , Edinburgh festival etc etc all cancelled as preperations would need to start in may likely and also public perception was a factor , going ahead when there is so many losing their lives from bbc Swift cancellation should help reduce any losses that Wimbledon, and the LTA's series of grass-court events, might incur - but there is also the issue of perception. The All England Club would not want to be seen to be pushing ahead with a sporting event as the death toll continues to rise and the country remains in the grip of the pandemic. Sticking resolutely to a place on the calendar, only to cancel abruptly, or postponing by a few weeks before having to concede defeat, is messy. It is not the way Wimbledon does things. Better, instead, to face facts and plan to return with a flourish in 2021. |

i'm like you, when the curve does flatten out and the death rate slows, without a vaccine, how do you stop it from happening again? I suppose come this time next year, they will know a lot more about the virus. testing will be far more prevalent. which should help but it looks so easy to catch and pass on, what will they do?

bigger sporting events need so much organising. people needing places to stay etc, people coming in from every corner of the world. all need to be booked well in advance. that isn't even taking into account the social distancing problem. I get why they are cancelling early.
they need to get some back to normal life in place though, glad its not me having to make that decision |

not as easy for racing with so many employed in the industry
but i think they would be better served long term by reacting with a little sensitivity to the current situation in the UK and announce a cancellation till june/july at least , if only out of respect for the many daily who are dying at this moment Cheltenham sadly will forever be associated with the outbreak for the wrong reasons as will many others , i hope racing in general escapes this kind of legacy |

exactly hello..nhs at breaking point..people dying everyday in the hundreds in britain and neighbouring countries..but people associated within racing busy trying to come up with a compromise to begin again in a few weeks.
