Yes i agree Diff - the ground and the pace.
Last year in the Arc she weakened near the finish but held on. I bet they wish they'd held on to her a bit longer today before they went to the front. |

elise i thought he made a winning decision going outside, the horse was looking at the gap between 3rd & 4th and he checked it to the outer, I agree with Geordie it made the difference
I agree as well. Horses on the rail have been getting caught by late finishers out wide both days at Longchamp and slightly surprised Dettori wasn't switched on to that as he has been riding tracks brilliantly all year. That Boudot chap rode several great races this meeting. The hype was ridiculous as was the price given how Longchamp can be when the ground gets heavy like that. |

Cut out the bull-shyte boys...Enable wins easy tomorrow...you don't often get chances like this to make 80% or so .....so easily. Lump on and have no regrets afterwards. Men in white coats have been called for those laying.... Not the best named poster imo!  |

a bridge too far..beaten by a 5yo plater in a dire race..c'est la vie Crikey, i thought i'd seen some nonsense written on here over the years, but this takes the Biscuit! Waldgeist only won the G1 Criterium De St Cloud as a 2 yo beating the following seasons English and Irish Derby Winners, The St Leger winner, 3 times G1 winning Best Solution and even The Melbourne Cup winner. As a 3 yo btn sh/hd in the Prix Du Jockey Club, horse has never been at his best when travelling abroad but has been virtually unbeatable on home turf since, only btn over 1m 2fs on heavy at St Cloud on 4yo debut run, was never going to have a hard race on that ground and except for his unlucky run in last years Arc when not getting a clear run has been unbeaten over 12fs at Longchamp and Chantilly! Get a sense of perspective fella, beaten by an equally great horse on the day imo. |

Enable didn't get home
Who else is to blame for that except Dettori? He was going better than the rest and Dettori couldn't get him in front soon enough. If fact he was in front earlier than last year when he didn't get home then, but managed to hang on. The winner had to switch to the outside for a clear passage by the way, and didn't have the pace to get to the front sooner if he'd wanted to, so no master plan there either. |

She also was not as good as some in the media had postulated; lucky to win 2 ARC's against weak oppositions, but great race management by Gosden until (yesterday) because of heavy ground.

I didn't...she did not exactly pull away from Sottsass and Japan after taking it up. And, when I saw Waldgeist coming up the centre of the track and passing Sottsass and Japan I knew he'd get past Enable.
There is a GOD (indeed) on the side of the bookies; I did lay her to win £50. |

Last year she chinned me on Sea Of Class, this year Waldgeist did the "honour". I think Gosden would have scratched her had it not been The Arc or 3rd successive Arc win attempt. Anyway. well done to backers of Waldgeist, and Happy Retirement Waldgeist (I'm only pre-empting)

I don’t think we need to rush to play down her achievements. Very very few of them can do what she has done.
The ground cost her the race as well as the pace. I would like to see her again but I expect it is unlikely, for all that she deserves to go out on a high. |

ENABLE is rated about 128 which looks about right.

I think the mare deserves the utmost credit and respect for never ducking a challenge and running and winning all the right races. If they continually run in the best races then eventually they will get beat.

I believe the other races on the day were a lot slower compared to standard than the Arc, Portman.
Which ties in with Enable stopping. I am loathe to glower at Frankie, but on reflection I think he could have held on to her. Even in the early part of the race he was rushing her up a bit, although the actions of others didn’t help him. |

It is indeed johnny, although i do think it was a good field and think the 1st and 2nd are two very good horses.

Enable's a truly admirable mare..her longevity at the top is pretty awesome really but she just lacks the wow factor for me
i just remember some of the scintillating Arc winners albeit their star may not have shone for so long and the stronger fields of yore |

The pace certainly caught Dettori out.
If a lesser jockey had given a fancied horse a ride like that knowing how he tied up last year, he'd find he wouldn't be riding many fancied horses again for a long time. |

I think you're right john. I will always believe she was best on good/good to firm and stayed a mile and a half extremely well but still had the class to win the Eclipse. Waldgeist loved the ground and got the best ride on the day. Was she anywhere near as good as STS and many others ? No.
