'Genuine mistake'
John Egan, who rode the 'winner', said he was surprised the horse was not disqualified or the race declared void. "At the end of the day, we're all human. Mistakes happen. I feel most sorry for Charlie," he said. John Mear, a member of the Four Winds Racing Partnership that own Millie's Kiss, said they were "shocked and upset" for the trainer. "It's nothing untoward. He's just made a genuine mistake. He must be absolutely heartbroken," he said. McBride was unavailable for comment. |

betfair sportsbook , have they paid out on the second.. it says they have on racing post site
By:
Seems everywhere but betfair exchange. Great advertisement...
By:
peer to peer - a slight difference
By:
Im mot sure what difference is given the circumstances of what happened in the race.
What people were betting on was different to what actually occurred |
By:
BF exchange always pays out based on the weigh-in.
If that's too much to take then don't play - quite simple really. |
By:
I think the circumstances regarding this particular case make even that point not logical.
The correct horse didnt run. Just bad service by the site with something that could easily be rectified |
By:
no win for them, upset those who made money or upset those that lost and of course any possible court cases. imo should be void but can understand why they havent
By:
"BF exchange always pays out based on the weigh-in"
of the winning horse, the horse in question was in the stable. |
By:
So you expect BF to re-settle the market hours after the weigh-in?
So what happens to monies deemed to have been won which are bet subsequently? |
By:
No actually I would have hoped BF would put their hands in their pockets on this occasion & done the decent thing, maybe they still will but I wont hold my breath.
By:
That's what they should do here blackbarn throw out the FPTP and let the rest of the result stand.
If someone has written out Millie’s Kiss (the horse that ran instead) on a slip but didn't put any meeting or time, I very much doubt the bookies would pay out because it "won" and surely as a 3YO running in a 2YO race it has to be thrown out.....Even if just for carrying the wrong weight. ![]() Plus I've seen jockeys hitting the front too early but never by an hour-and-a-half! ![]() |
By:
It's not BF's money pumphol.
By:
An ex gratia payment would be though, hardly a dent in the yearly profits.
By:
Exactly!
By:
We all know the rules - we're all big boys here.
By:
In fairness the rules say 3YOs can't run in 2YO only races.
By:
*BF's rules.
Hth. |

What is suspicious is the Norfolk Mafia who lives at Great Yarmouth went very quiet a few days before this incident
and has not been seen or heard on the forum since... |
By:
I blame Derek Thompson .

They say it was a mistake , but how has that horse run if it was deemed a NR in a later race - what was the reason for it being a NR ?- all of this needs sorting out - there are just too many grey areas in uk racing - they talk about integrity in uk horseracing - its fcukin does have any.
They say it was an honest mistake.....but the trainer should get a fine or be banned imo - if he is that irresponsible to not put the right horse on the track then the BHA should be questioning his professionalism. |
By:
It was declared a NR in the 3.15 once they realised it had run in the 1.40 race.
By:
But agree about the trainer getting banned. Backers of the favourite on track and on here have done their nuts. Not to mention layers of the "winner".
By:
and he will definitely be fined, and probably heavily. Unlikely to be banned unless they discover something more untoward than a serious error.
By:
Astounding that the rules of racing do not allow for the result to be overturned on the day, be that through either the voiding of the race (which is the way it should be, IMHO - and I wasn't involved financially) or the disqualification of the FPTP.
By:
Yeah I get you were meaning betting rules Wesdag and was being a bit flippant, in that we might all be willing to accept the rules but it's a bit galling when something as incompetent as this happens.
We all know the rules in football about the referee's decision being final too but there will still be uproars each time a "phantom goal" is allowed or disallowed. |
By:
Latalomne - rules probably date back 50 years to when all bets were taken on course and once they were paid out you couldn't really go back on it. Online betting was science fiction in those days.
By:
Yeah but this is like messi playing for villa with agbonlahor on his back, scoring 4 then going back to spain. All bets stand
on agbonlahor hat trick at 1000/1 ![]() |
By:
Latalomne - I agree with you, and I said as much earlier on in response to Barton. On thinking about it a little more and checking the rules, I think the issue here is that there is a clear requirement for a break point where Stewards no longer have any jurisdiction on the race, and any subsequent problem must go to "head office". For right or wrong, this break point under the rules is "weighed in".

On the same day The Pentagon wins...connect the dots sheep....illumati taking the p iss now.

Has anything like this ever happened before?
I've never heard of it either way |
By:
Charlie Mann has sent the wrong horse to the races three times and still has a license. On the third occasion, the horse that ran in the wrong name actually died.
