ironically Dave the only other account with similar login details(not any more) is Trade Fair which i joined up to a few weeks ago.
I had kept them the same as part of the same entity

Call their bluff.

Next time you see a 4/5 shot you fancy on the Sportsbook, ask them whether they'd like to lay you a £2,400 to £3,000. And if not, why not.

hmmm they seem to imply that you inadvertently gave your details to a spoof site?  You have your details saved, so wouldn't normally enter them.  Can you think of any time in recent weeks that you have been asked to enter username/password.

btw just asking in case anyone else has fallen for the same scam.

Well done 'chalkie'!

Betfair did the correct thing despite no admitting liability. However, would anyone still leave large amounts of funds in their account overnight post this event despite the customer friendly outcome? A brave person might....

More likely a "fun" bet from a 17 year old.

I've said this several times.  If the bet wins, the plan would be to move some of the winnings out of the account prob via the poker app.  When the account owner logs on they find that there account has been messed about with, but they have made money.  So will they report it?  Prob not for fear of losing money.

Glad you rightfully got paid, but it was easy to blame another site and just pay you back. It still stinks to me due to the wager being on the Sportsbook and smacks of something wrong their end. They won't give you any more details as it will show them up (NAP).

As screaming from beneaththewaves has said, ask for a 3k bet on something when you fancy one and see what they will lay you - if they refuse you to peanuts you will KNOW it was something their end in this case imo.

Bamos chalkie Cool Now all that's left to do is withdraw all your funds..close your account..then send betfair a picture of Keyser Soze..

How could the bet have been accepted? £3k on Sportsbook on a non-major event?

Imagine £3k on a (different date) for the General Election after its announcement? An accomplice could so easily have benefited if done when the market was exceptionally quiet eg after midnight ie layed and accepted.

Someone calling themselves Keyser Soze was a troll from about 5 years ago now. He was a right pain in the ****. S**t stirrer in the extreme. The loser used to reside in one of the newsgroups accessed from Microsoft Outlook Express - 24support.helpline to be precise.

This happened to me a few years ago. I was betting on the Huxley Stakes at Chester and was waiting for the payout to start reinvesting but nothing...in fact my balance dropped sharply...when I dug deeper my finds at been used to place several tennis bets.

It was impossible for anyone to believe me but after adding  a post in the site feedback forum I got a random call from fpneobe claiming to be from Betfair who said he was going to look like into more...pretty odd call because I could tell he was in a private room on his own i.e. No background noise from the call centre.

Needless to say I never heard from him or anyone from Betfair again and never got my funds back.

My feeling is that it was either a rogue bot or a hacker but Betfair were pleased to just ignore me completely and not admit a failure on their side.

Glad for you chalkie but something about all this just seems so wrong. Betfair, if they suspected an outside 'third party' I'm pretty sure would never have made a 'goodwill gesture.' Big companies just don't do charitable acts like this. They also run scared of talk of Police and Reporters which have both been mooted on this thread. Bad publicity and loss of customer confidence is what terrifies the sh!t out of them but that leaves us with the question of what actually happened here?
Who was this mystery 'third party' - still think all this points to some sort of compromise at BF

There's nothing stopping you still reporting it to the cops is there?

Someone has stolen from you, even though BF have made a goodwill gesture and recompensed you, doesn't make it right.

They'll be free to do it again to someone else.

My retort yesterday when learning of the intended refund and settlement of this matter is below.
Rob:Yes good result but still backed it elsewhere ew didn't cover the bet but it would have done on BF. Not bet so many in the last few days probably because of this, been a bit jittery. Luckily (probably) i have only done 2 decent doubles in the last 2 days and both won(Abbotswood/Corintia Knight Mon and Ardea/Disko Yesterday) but were preceeded by 2 losers in Sugar Baron and Order of St George. Swings and roundabouts as normal.
Virgin: In a way yes i suppose. Could have been like backing a loser in one race and winning it back in the next. Trouble was it was spread over 4-5 anxious days

Hi
Thank you for finally sorting this out, rightfully and justifiably  I may add and rest assured I will from now on be using the 2 step security and other suggestions that I may have not used before.
I would like to point out that my anti spyware, firewall and virus protection runs 24 hours a day and updates and scans automatically as this is needed for my set up and as my business dictates. I can assure you my system was not infiltrated my end otherwise it would have shown and I did thoroughly check this as a matter of due diligence and there are far more important files that could have been accessed if it had.
What you need to be asking yourself, although I suspect you have done so already, is how the hell this bet was facilitated your end when I have never been able to place a bet on any Sportsbook event(when I have tried) for more than a few pence let alone £3K (and on such an obscure market as ‘American Soccer’)
You would have seen that I don’t use Sportsbook and if I was going to bet on anything like such an obscure market, it would have been on the exchange as there is better value and I also have a couple of Bookmakers accounts where I can get a decent bet on if I needed to. Also I very rarely bet on Football or other sports and if doing so it would normally  involve UK teams or Local International teams.
I think even on the exchange I have only bet in 4-5 games in the last year or so and for a lot less than the monies involved here.
Once again thank you for putting this matter to rest and coming to an amicable solution.
I would have much preferred a one on one phone call to sort out this mess though.

Regards

Account has now been reloaded as promised. So do i now,as suggested and thought myself, try and place a bet for the £3k on Sportsbook to see if they accept itSurprised or would that be tempting fate.
Might just take it and not give me a chance to confirm itShocked
