No need for wifi or data to be on; the GA app isn't 'receiving' codes anyway, it generates them and the BF servers know that the code you enter is a valid one, is generated by your copy of GA and valid at that time. It's the same tech as the little fob I have on my keyring that generates 6-digit codes for my work VPN, or the banking app on my phone that generates login codes for my bank's website. |

@dustybin - what do you mean by "have had the security pulled by microsoft recently" - I'm pretty sure that is not true - point me to a link?
The ones to beware of are XP and Vista, which some people still use (god knows why Vista, I wouldn't use it when it was new, it's appalling) despite MS having ceased to support them, so they no longer have security updates and any newly discovered vulnerabilities go unpatched. |

yes it does, but then windows 10 has spyware in it and is apparently buggy, I am one of those with a new machine with a physical copy of win7 as my preference

barrowboy - there are malicious hackers, but they might also go to the poker app and dump money. Lets say they won £2.6k on the bet and dumped £2k leaving the hacked account £600 up. Then what does hacked person do? Report and risk losing £2k or shut up and change password?

What's the link between BF not paying out on Exchange bets matched on Voler La Vedette (when they said the layer was putting up imaginary money) and the OP having his account hacked and a bet placed on a Sportsbook football match? Apart from both being Betfair I can't see any link between the cases? |

If so, that would be a very simple route into your account for some stranger randomly browsing neighbouring phones. |

I spent 20 minutes on the phone to Talk talk trying to get an internet problem solved and within 2 minutes of coming off the phone someone tried to hack my virgin mobile claiming to be from talk talk and yet despite numerous attempts complaint's to talk talk they are still trying to convince me it was just a coincidence and nothing was wrong at their end. f00kin clowns think were all idiots

As stated, the biggest mystery is how a 3k bet got accepted on the sportsbook. That simply does not happen, unless someone within Betfair itself deliberately facilitates it.

I put off using 2 stage authentication for ages thinking my old phone wasnt upto date enough, infact an attempt previously failed since google auth needed a later IOS and apple no longer supplied updates (yet further corporate extortion forcing churn of unrequired new tech)
The I just happened to try it usig an Ipad instead and it worked, took a few mins and can easily be used with gruss. Everyone should do it, along with 2 stage auth on their email as if that goes everything can be accessed |

Why wouldn't the hacker just put up a "can't win" exchange lay with their own account on a market with no liquidity and empty the hacked account backing that - thereby effectively transferring the money to their own account ?

That's the interesting thing - why hack someone's account just to lose on the SB? Though something as simple as you suggest shouldn't work - Chalkie would have reported the security breach to BF before the hacker could withdraw the money from his account. |

That's assuming they can identify the hacker and connect them to the winning account. A malicious hacker could do pretty much the same thing as this case i.e. without putting their own bet up so that they didn't benefit financially. Then it would look like the exchange user who did benefit was the hacker even if they weren't

@dave1357 - Yes, I've heard poker is the traditional way of dumping money from hacked accounts - can create a very messy trail very quickly.

Wow, that is scary! And that is courtesy of Betfair despite dubious log-ins, and an unusual large bet; unless it is a banking establishment eg Nationwide, etc and not a virtual bank eg Tesco, I always withdraw the majority of funds (here) leaving only a token for use. Commiseration 'chalkie', I do hope you are recompensed, rightfully. |
