LCT would be the worst marginal leave by a mile, a heavy kick in the nads.
Got to draw the line somewhere, hopefully on the right side of it. |

Worth a play at the prices
|

By:
Titi ran it's race LCT was travelling until the pace picked up, would probably give a chance back on faster ground.

def a big change in MJ horses acting on soft ground over the last couple of seasons imo.

Just looked back at Morning suits last few runs. Has ran on good to soft (salisbury) and good/soft in places (brighton). Each time it looked to be struggling a long way out, but was encouraged along and actually found more in the closing stages. Finished 2nd and 1st respectively. Hasn't really found like that on better ground.
Breeding doesn't really suggest it should like the soft ground, but I've seen enough to have a probably have an ew play at the prices. Monticello is also worth another go too at ew prices after the bad ran last time. Much better horse than that. This is a race the yard definitely like. Only twice in the last 10 years have they not had a horse win or place in this race. 6th and 8th the other 2 years. |

By:
Poet's Society for me in the last e/w. I've said for a while Poet's Voices progeny do well with some cut whilst most have said they like quicker ground. It's an angle that has served me well. This horses best runs this year have been when it won on G/S over 5f, 4th on G/F over 6f, 2nd on soft over 5f and 3rd on g/s over 6f. Testing ground today over 5f could play to it's strengths.
Yards only had runners in this for the last 3 years (10 year history). Won once (also 3rd that year) and placed 3rd the other two. Annoyingly trainer K A Ryan does well in this race too so will have a saver on Major Jumbo |

By:
Yes my feeling with Morning Suit on recent evidence has been that the mile could well be on the sharp side now dibbers, struggling virtually the whole way at Salisbury when given a taste of the class but showing a dogged resilience keeping on all the way. Plugging on at Yarmouth when not ridden too aggressively and then Ponty never got into the race before plugging on late. You'd think whether the ground is ok or not today this horse needs things to be going a little bit slower in a race, although the pedigree certainly doesn't scream 10f, the suspicion on the actual running now is that it could help considerably.
Monticello has been twice selected on here this season, the first effort going down a neck at HQ to a well regarded Gosden inmate where once passed was finishing well as the line loomed. (3rd there was 3rd behind Londinium yesterday).Returned there a week later upped to today's class for the first time against his elders, he did not settle in a small field on a slower surface and got outpaced before staying on in taking fashion to eventually finish 2nd.Then the last run where selected again on here and a stinker of a run again at HQ over the same CD.Perhaps resenting being dropped out, there have been a few signs of him wanting to do things his way in races (can be a bit free)but whatever the reason that was a total misfire of a run out of context with it's other recent form. If this horse does settle a bit more in it's races I am pretty sure it would have no problems over a longer trip now and certainly a strongly run 10f would pose no problem. Looking at Monty's runs and placements there could be a concern that he doesn't really like big fields and is happier bossing less runners, however he does have plenty of class experience, which has been no bad thing at this meet. The comeback run on soft looked ok for a long way but you can't say it's sure to suit. You'd expect a more prominent run today under Joe with the guaranteed stamina and if the ground is ok and he isn't too free I could see that last run being left well behind. |

Not sure if the non runner is a good thing or not. Kinda ruins the ew price. I'll wait till later to see what I do

MJ runners who have done well in the 1st race have usually come here after a Newmarket run. Monticello would be that horse today. I'm gonna go a little bigger on that than Morning suit

![]() Donning me Morning Suit today That 10F could be a lot more like 12F with the ground GL |
|
By:
I would have thought both his will like the test of stamina today. Monticello looks a stayer while
Morning ran his best race over slightly shorter doing his best work late on. I would actually slightly favour Morning Suit |
|
By:
I've played Poets Society a few times, a very good run at york in a valuable class 2 over 6f when thinking he may drop away from a prominent pitch actually looked tapped for toe there before staying on strongly (best of the rest) after being hampered to grab the place money. Then made use of the class drop at HQ but looking to me like further would have been better. I selected again back at HQ over 6f and didn't really get to see a clear run that day the gut feeling being he was probably held but momentum was definitely hampered up the inside when others were kicking on. Selected last run at Ponty, a big disappointment back over 5f in a class 3 never looking like getting involved.
The conditions today as pointed out by dibdob may well play to the stamina strength, the ground should certainly be ok and the testing 5f because of it could be a real plus. Plenty of class experience but plenty more exposed too, I'd usually expect something potentially on a a steep upward curve to take a festival race but a few of these probably won't be as suited by conditions as the MJ horse. PS is one on the margins today, I'm not sure whether to play. |
|
By:
I'm slightly more confident Monty will get home in conditions, pretty sure 12f would be ok now. The temperament is a bit of a question, can be a bit exuberant and small fields have been best so far.The last run from Monty was also a shocker, Surely is ridden more prominent like a stayer today and hopefully will act on the ground.
Morning Suit should stay 10f not sure 10f on soft will suit as well and you'd think joe had the call with the 2 runners, can't rule out though and at the price a saver seems sensible with being completely unexposed at the distance. 1:50 Goodwood Monticello, current odds 19.0 1:50 Goodwood Morning Suit, current odds 27.0 gl all today |

By:
These are HALF STAKES plays!
|
|
By:
If you don't play the margins at goodwood when can you play them?
Monticello could struggle with the headwind if he leads. If he does hopefully morning suit gets behind it for some cover. A 1 - 2 would be nice ![]() GL |
|
By:
Looked like summat wrong at end with Monty or just gave up
Suit looked unsettled then ground hard work Move on |
|
By:
Morning Suit was scrubbed along early there too then probably didn't get home
I'd like to see him back on a better surface over the trip at a price. Monty not sure now with last 2 runs, beaten very early there. |

Hope Cardsharp can bag another group event but not interested today in conditions at price
gl DB if you are playing? |

By:
Put an 3 place insurance bet on PS in the last. Could be missing out a winner in the 4.10, but dont want to play at the prices in a competitive race. Gonna just sit back and enjoy the racing.

Nothing strong for nurseries at this meet. Record is 2-29 with 2.7 expected.
BUT a 1-2-3 in this race last year and yard also won in 2014, Rusumaat touched off in another nursery last year with 3 stable runners in race. The overall 2yo nursery record in class 2's is 8-159 with 18.57 expected! for that sort of sample quite incredibly bad. I couldn't be bothered trying to untangle this nursery today with the 3 runners. |

The ground is just too much of an unknown. Like it wasn't hard enough already. Won't bet tomorrow if the ground doesn't dry up significantly

Londinium tough ask in conditions over this sort of trip so soon back on track? At price doesn't shout back me anyhow.
Star Of the East another unlikely route to the race first time up form a nursery last run but should definitely stay, seems a strange race to run off a comeback on this ground if something not expected? Bear Valley looked a very likely candidate for a decent hcp after the Ascot run, been a bit disappointing since has to be said.Based on the Ascot run when gaining at the finish, should definitely stay 12f so todays trip on this ground should bring the stamina to the fore.Ground clues with sire ok and one run on it looked ok too. not great confidence here so 2 1/2 stakes plays again today. 5:15 Bear Valley, current odds 21.0 5:15 Star Of The East current odds 34.0 |

I said earlier in the season when leaving Soldier In Action at Epsom he looked like one of the GG horses this year but was rated 99 at the time and now 104. Ran an absolute blinder at Haydock when keeping on over 12f for the runners up spot with the other top weight off today's mark and that suggested this trip would be worth another go. This conditions mix off 104 is going to make this a tough ask today though no doubt of that (has won on soft over 10f but flopped on it over 12f at york), the conditions run after that haydock effort doesn't fill with the greatest confidence that this mark is doable in a race like this (would have been a bit more confident coming straight here from the haydock hcp run).
Having said all that you have got a horse that is pretty unexposed at today's distance still and has won a hcp in facile fashion at track off 94. Jaameh looks a bit more likely, can forgive the last run over 12f as stays a lot further and has ran well here at the festival last season.Has won on soft ground and could still be feasibly weighted with this the target. 2:25 Goodwood Jaameh 2:25 Goodwood Soldier In Action (£5) |
