Yeah, but it failed to win on Soft the previous run, so saw no reason why it should win. If Soft was what it wanted, it would have won/gone close last time.

However you got to the answer you saved a bit yesterday which is obviously better than losing out on 2nd.
On watching that race yesterday the ground was not a problem, the favourite (who'd never run on proper soft ground) beat it and they were miles clear of the rest. The previous race was in a better grade and over shorter which imo would be more likely the reason for the last run. thanks for your comments though PHS, always welcome and interesting to see other viewpoints. |

Thomas Cranmer looks up against it at Thirsk and is the only runner sent there today (a positive in this grade), Joe has won on him twice this season but instead goes to Bath.
TC back on a sharper track and small field in a less hot race could be a lot happier today, the opposition is generally less exposed but TC is 1-2 at the trip and has plenty of the other positive factors I look for in this grade including the run in a big money hcp lto (like Masham Star who got chinned yesterday after a tailed off effort at RA). If he runs well I'd be more inclined to think Joe has gone to Bath with a bit of confidence in the yard being in the winners there. None of the runners are right in the zone again today but I have gone down the route of playing the close fits this month so would be dangerous to be erratic with this approach. So far in July just the 1 handicap win (hochfield at the weekend), I really can't afford to be missing out on winners with a patchy MO. Decisions decisions... |

I've backed X Rated 8.0 Bath. Was debating whether to back it or not, form nothing special, but has been dropped 3lb to 72 which gets him into this 0-70. Also trainer 15-52 over c&d (29%) and thought horse might nick it from the front. Good luck if you're playing today

thought at start of the season SC would be running over a mile so perhaps settling a bit better will be up in trip again, the change probably needed now to get any further potential improvement out. at least got the runners up spot Tiger for you. |

Not got much for 3yo's in mdns but Grey Diamond sits in a group that sees 11-34 winners with only 3.27 expected, the average price of these 11 winners has been 21.05 on BF.
A bit concerning for me that Franny is riding earlier for the yard but doesn't hang around for this with PJ taking over (joe up on debut). My gut feeling would be that this may be quite significant as to what is expected tonight but have been completely wrong with notions like this before! At prices will probably be playing both. |

Beardwood was running all over them last time at ponty 2f-3f out but got in all sorts of trouble.This is an 11lb better race on average ratings (though taking out the unexposed Hannon favourite none are in blistering recent form) and there may not be that great a pace (Beardwood likes a strong early pace to run through late).
Going through these a danger Berkshire could get a softy in front and Beardwood just not get rolling in time if there's a late kick. I'm going to play SDS here and hope he comes here in good heart for a big run.Yard is pretty good in this class with older horses against ? recent opposition form. 4:00 Sandown Beardwood 5.8 |

I follow your thread with interest and admire your tenacity ..... I cannot solve the enigma that is MJ - I only bet (unless I go racing) on handicap races at 10f or more at Class 5 or better ... Who has the most winners in this group in the last 6 seasons - by a long way it is MJ .....  |
