Gambling For Life Hardcover – 31 Aug 2017 by Harry Findlay (Author) Hardcover: 352 pages Publisher: Trinity Mirror Sport Media (31 Aug. 2017) Language: English ISBN-10: 1910335606 ISBN-13: 978-1910335604 Product Dimensions: 15 x 2.2 x 21 cm Price: £16.99 Gambling For Life reflects one man's extraordinary passion for gambling. How he cannot live without it. And how he knows that even if he loses all of his money, he can never be a loser. Ordered and I would love to know how he was unable to get the value at odds against...
Packed in punting a couple of years ago as have been banned from every website six times over... Have been working with those that wish to see the FOBTS restricted to peanuts.. I want to see every alleged "betting shop" closed down because quite simply you are not allowed to win... Disgusting money sucking scum.. Just a thought... |

Thanks for the info about his book, will definitely be getting that.
His documentary 'professional gambler' from years ago is one of the best documentaries I've seen, absolutely great to watch, what a man! the gambling on the game of tennis against his mate had me cracking up. |

@kincsem re alternative title.
That is another reason I do not like to pre-order. Titles can change, as can prices and publication dates -- until the book is out, there is a risk publication will be postponed, and that the seller's computer will not tie up the original title with the one finally used. |

Is this the same book Peter Thomas (?) was supposed to be ghosting ten years ago or did Harry knock that on the head and start again?
|
|
By:
looking forward to reading this book, racing seems to have become very dull regarding its characters, just a bunch of fence sitters and crawlers to satisfy the pc brigade, HF - outspoken, opinionated a colourful life of big ups and downs, no shortage of material to write about, doubt he'll be sparing any punches

lead on, if you remember the build up and reaction to denman's gold cup
harry was (understandably from an owners point of view) p1ssed off that he owned 1 of the best chasers in the last 20 years and kauto was still paul nicholls and clifford baker's favourite horse in the yard 2 great horses and 1 of the best gold cups in my lifetime |

as mentioned earlier in the thread harry once said betting /gambling is the greatest game in the world ! nothing comes close ! and he is not wrong , aftert 4 or 5 races you could be you could be doing your bollax and looking fooked but a couple of winners later and you are flying with the eagles and way in front, its the ups and downs the highs and lows that bring us gamblers back to the betting table for more time and time again, some of my non betting friends and family members say to me after seeing i have lost a largish amount of money on a bet "fook i would be gutted if i lost that amount of money on a horse ,"how long do you have the hump for when you lose a bet like that ! about 20 seconds maximum i say then its onto the next bet .............why do we bet !for me the feeling i get the high when i win a bet is far far greater than the low of a loser .............the adrenalin is pumping and the buzz is better than any drug ! ............now lets look at tommorows cards and get betting !

I first met Harry at Slough Dogs in the late 1970's.....Amazing character and even in those days when he hardly had a couple of shillings to spare he would soon win a monkey and 2 races later he would want me to buy him a cup of tea. He was one of racing's characters and his opinions on whatever he was doing, were that he had to have an edge on knowledge. No guesswork with Harry. Of course it didn't always work out, but as he rightly quotes, 'its better to back 10 even money shots in every twenty bets, rather than one 20/1 shot every 20 races.' how right you are Harry...Its the confidence factor. One of the classics was when he went to Southampton to watch a one day cricket match between Hants and Essex ( I think). His edge in knowledge was that whoever won the toss had a huge advantage in those days of day /evening matches..stats showed that 4 out of every 5 matches were won this way. So...what did Harry do...He went into the middle as Mark Nicholas and Graham Gooch were doing the toss. As soon as he knew who was betting first, he was on the mobile to his bookie and lumping on!!! At which point mark Nicholas asked him what he was doing and of course it didn't matter to Harry because he had lumped on before the rest of the punters knew who was batting first. THAT'S HARRY FOR YOU....He was declared bankrupt 4 years ago this month and I hope this book puts him back into our game because Racing needs characters like him.

How did this amazing gambler go bankrupt twice? Does the bankruptcy mean that he owes people money and won't be paying them? What a surprise?

was buying blood stock down under for well heeled guys - last I heard , but that was 5 years ago
so no help - |

To 'asparagus': Harry did not go bankrupt twice. He was made bankrupt once, when he should not have been because he was not insolvent. (The purpose of a bankruptcy order is to provide for the equitable treatment of the creditors of an insolvent person). The bankruptcy order was quickly set aside when the court was satisfied as to Harry's circumstances (i.e. substantial solvency).
More generally to all forum users, with the publication date of Gambling for Life now less than a month away: No doubt Harry Findlay begrudgers will be out in force posting negative comment. Do not publish libellous material. Defamation law has kept up with forums such as this and social media sites, as Sally Bercow and Katie Hopkins, for example, have discovered to their cost |

after thre book they should make a movie of harrys life , hope he makes plenty and comes back with all guns blazing ! the game needs him and others like him , he has lived the life ,i remember reading an article on harry and he said he was once down to his last £65 .............we all been there but not many have gone from £65 to owning a gold cup winner ,legend of the game and anyone saying they would not have wanted the same is talking bollax !
