You didn't need to be Columbo to see this one coming, Flint rides once in a blue moon, has a winner every time Halley's Comet comes round and would have been 6lb overweight.

Recipe for the biggest feasible price on Saint Helena early doors.

Well I,m of the opinion that this mob are pulling a stroke ie 3/1 not to place and 6/4 not to win.FWIW I,ve laid it not to place and backed Operatuer ew who incidently has a very similar profile to SH.

Saint Helena wins or have the layed the lot off anyway after getting the big price

the McCoy strike rate and this things form would suggest it wins today after Matty got it stuffed in every other race

Thought this might interest a few people and provide a little insight into where to go next and the difficulty of the present handicap system.

I owned a moderate but 5 time winning mare a few years back and after a tendon injury She was sold for breeding. The owner could not get her in foal and she was offered back to us and we did get her in foal eventually. She had a fair bumper and flat horse called Tanktastic which we sold and one went to Ireland which I don't think made the racecourse. The last one was a tiny filly called Miel Valeur that I put into training despite reservations about her size.

After a quiet run in a bumper the brief was to get as close as possible in her 3 runs over hurdles to make sure she got a mark! She ran 2 fair races and one bad one with collective defeats of about 140 lengths  and was given a mark of 78.

At the time we were spending money that we could barely afford pursuing our dream and doing it openly and honestly and hopefully providing a bit of employment along the way.

The question could be that should any horse be given a rating on such wide margin defeats or should a run have to qualify by finishing 4th or better. At the moment there are probably plenty of small owners like us seething when SMP plays his tricks with his juveniles and gets knighted and they play the game just to try and get a flat rating of 60.

I would be less than happy if something like the JB horse beat mine today, never mind the punting angle. There needs to be a rethink here as honest owners wont leave in droves but some will and the perception of the sport is being challenged by people who should have no part of it.

Saw this developing last night and I'm not convinced so my alternative scenario:

Drift pre off
Sat off pace, effort 3 out, weakened after, finished tired.

Everybody is happy, bookies get the guessers dosh (obv connections won't have invested a penny) conspiracy dashed, all ready for another day......

Either way it should be an interesting watch!

Prescott was never knighted, he's a Baronet and that's a hereditary title first awarded to his grandfather.

There has and always will be loopholes to be exploited for those who are that way inclined, just more visible to more people these days because of the saturated coverage available to anyone who cares to watch it.
Additionally as illustrated by this thread the majority of people are well aware of the relevant players who involve themselves in this type of "coup".

Given the amount of racing that takes place in any single week of the year, why does it cause so much angst...?

There is no one forcing you to play said race, anyone that had done their own analysis of the race would surely be giving this race a wide berth anyway, given that so many have highlighted it as an issue.
Is the real problem that people are disgusted that it is allowed to go on unchecked or that they have missed the boat and failed to put themselves in a position to profit from it...?

The REAL problem Cork Langer is that by their supine approach the BHA (supposedly the regulators of the sport) sit back and do nothing to discourage this kind of behaviour.

Indeed it might be said that in allocating a handicap mark on such flimsy evidence they are encouraging it...

parispike, why do you expect them to do anything now when the various different bodies in charge have done little in the previous untold decades of the sport...?
There has to be a want and there never will be, because they know the same as we do that it is all supposition, nothing can be proven even though the facts are there for all to see clearly if they so desire or bother to.
If we didn't have access to this forum how many of us would discuss it or raise it as an issue...?
You know there will be nothing said in the press, consequently no one is going to rock the boat so ultimately nothing will be done.
