khyber kim,
good morning. Your post reminds me of when I was about six or seven.... we had ten bags of coal delivered, and the coal man had to make ten journeys down the entry and into our back garden to the coal shed. Mom knew I was quick witted like her and asked me to count them in so we had ten delivered. Needless to say the chap delivered nine and I can still here my mother say '' my son wouldn't lie to me and you can either fetch another bag or I'll pay you for nine !'' ![]() |

In the mid sixties I used to get 2 bob pocket money & every saturday off to the newspaper shop to get as many comics as I could - The Victor, Hotspur etc - cannot remember the name but there was a small pocket like book with all war stories - brilliant
You had to be tough to go to the outside khazi in the middle of winter as well Hot water bottle in bed (and I mean a pop bottle) - I'll never know how it didn't explode |

I sent for a Charles Atlas Course to improve my body.
Regretably,I could not open the envelope! Seriously,I trained like a rabid bulldog for months and never put an ounce on. By the way,Charles did not get paid. |

For Halcyon
Never arrived in bags just dumped by the coal Board Lorry. If you didn't get in in quick the 'Pop' man or rag and bone man or the bleach wagon scattered it and crushed it. Another errand I hated was to go to the local butcher for my Gran, usually about Thursday. She used to 'Tick up' until my Grandad got paid on Friday. Always a pound of best steak and 6 links of pork sausage and I had to go back with the money Saturday morning. |

A spud gun. Plane to Spain, smog filled smoking area, girls doing in a duty free litre on flight, men trying to bend hostesses over the aisle - and they loved it. Respecting your elders and certainly anyone who knew your family. Locarno (Powerhouse) after Cobblers games. Superb thread. |
