Due to the lack of alternative entertainment I would often read a book
Famous Five , Secret Seven , Biggles in progression Until in the early sixties I tried to read "Catch 22" Started at the front , could not understand it. Someone who had read it told me to start in the middle. ??? WOW Read it to the end and then went back and read it beginning to middle BRILLIANT BOOK |

Terry O'Sullivan used to run the schooling track, Sir Tom was an owner at Crayford. A few rumours about him ended his ownership. A terrible accident ended with a child drowning in the middle of the track , so I believe. Used to have many many greyhounds but now wouldnt cross the road to go, to what was once a great game. Actually attended 3 tracks in 1 night in the past watching my own dogs run, Maidstone, southend and Romford !

in the 70s a whole group of us were out of work and devised games to relive the boredom in the afternoons feck all on the telly in those days save for " indoor league " with fred trueman " ill se thee" was his catchphrase , what little money we had was invested wisely on drink and happy weed ,we all sat around a table and played a game called chase the ace "with a twist " it was the ultimate bluff game and if you copped an ace it the pressure was unbearable you had to hope someone had a low card and swapped it with you , the twist was " there was a mousetrap set up on the table and person who copped the ace or low card had to stick his fingers in it , it was like that film the deerhunter when he played Russian roulette ,all the others who had avoided the ace or low card were baying and screaming and laughing till it was there turn ! some cracking poker players must have come out of that experience !
