every confirmed horseplayer is racked by doubts what he is doing with his life. he is playing the toughest game in the world.even a winner will necessarily experience more frustrations than triumphs and when the frustrations come in rapid succession he may wonder if the struggle is worth it.having been reared to become an intellectual, i was seduced by horse-race betting because it offers more mental challenge than any subject in the academic world. few people ever master it. men that are successful in every other facet of their lives, can tackle racing and be frustrated, bewildered or even ruined. it is maddening that society confers its blessings on traditional academic pursuits but views the study of horse racing as utter frivolity

Not my words. But, they are ones I agree with wholeheartedly!

It is possible to survive following the form book about the better class horses,

form that holds up with the most modest of performers is meagre in the extreme.

Before you debate any further you need to come up with a definitive answer to " What is reading form and how do i put it into practice "

Every punter i've ever met has stated they read form but you could get the top 16 form readers in the country and ask them for a form selection in a 16 runner handicap and they'd come up with 8 or 9 different horses , it means different things to different people unfortunately.

Good luck today guys  Happy

It's that hard to master because it's close to worthless most of the time, and of course HR is as bent as any game that's ever been played. It is without the doubt the original and best MUGS GAME.

form is usually a guide to a horses ability .

whether it will re-produce the form shown previously in its next race , or in 10 races time or more is the judgement you have to make .

i always like to think " horses come into form , and go out of form , but still race regardless " .

it's trying to catch them when coming into form .

every sentence has the word form in it Crazy

Agree entirely
--------------

I was watching Brian Cox on BBC last night - in that 'Wonders of Life' series.

He was on about electrons dispersal, protons, and all kinds of Physics, and the reactions that take place to accommodate and create evolvement and diversification of life, etc.

I thought - This all comes so naturally to him - he UNDERSTANDS it all - and - MORE SO - can see the logical progressions that facilitate all this science, etc.

Despite his somewhat mildly detailed explanations, it still left questions in my mind - as to HOW does that actually  happen, though -  and HOW DO they know (for sure)? .

Then I thought - But that is HOW I have ALWAYS been with FORM STUDY -
- right from very early teenage  years - it came so naturally to me .... to the point were I have NEVER ASKED ANYBODY ANYTHING about the game -
- Yet have tried, and in an erudite, patient, and lucid manner - may I add - to educate others - like successful businessmen owners - who, though, could NOT - and NEVER will - 'grasp the game' in a million years - because they have, quite simply, NOT got 'IT' within them.

- and that's the equation .... 'IT' HAS to be within you.

Wise ones will KNOW whether 'IT'  is within them - or, far more often, is NOT.

Whatever your approach, or 'Angles' may be - FORM STUDY still HAS to be the staring point.......

You can always - THEN -  dismiss 80% of what you assimilate, if appropriate ...

But every now and then - NOT every race, naturally  -  it is 100% of the Bet ....

- and that is when you DO BET.

I am equally sure that, brilliant brain that Brian is  - Put a 7 Furlong Handicap in front of Professor Brian Cox.... and he would break out into a cold sweat.  Grin

It depends how Brian Cox was to make his profit from the race also

Finding the winner would pickle Stephen Hawkings , tho i think finding an equation to profit from IR panic would be less difficult

this just a point about what is the animal going to do next.
my daughter has two lovely well breed dogs, the same breed i might add one is 4 and one is 7. to me they where just the house pets who wanted feed and pampered.so i never gave much thought to actually animals minds till i started walking them ever night.
the first thing i noticed was that the young one is very alert frisky lways wanting to pull hard and run, the older one more relaxed adn chilled. then it occured to me that the older one was exsactly like him  3 or 4 years ago . so as they get older they settle just like us really. but the next thing i noticed which was quiet interesting was the young one loves on the grass walking, yet the older one likes the walkway harder ground.thats when i  started thinking of them as animals just like horses.
the amazing thing is  the younger they are the more likely they will just run and run so form should be true for each individual.its just there improvment your looking at.where as the older they get the more unpredictable most should get lazy ,sore, bored, tired, dont like getting wet, dont like certain people near them hence same jockey could be good factor.
the other thing i noticed is the older just wanted to get back to the stable sooner the better, whre as the younger couldnt care less if he went back,i also noticed how the younger one seemed  to let u handle him more freely , where as older one gets aannoyed if you take to long.so i beleive the older they get the more you need watch for very quirky points to them.gerry.

I beleive many books have been written about how you can interpret form cards and turn observational

skills into profit but in reality the human mind struggles simply handling seven or more tasks at the

same time so using a computer to keep records,  read the from, rate the values and factors

and so on is the only way to go  but rest assured that the markets although accurate enough for layers

on average to make profits are very inaccurate at the smaller scale and its quite possible to find

at least one runner in nearly every race that can deliver on average 140% ROI.

The reason for this is because the ~Industry that seeds markets has based its formulations on a

very basic framework for one and secondly Industry layers just love over playing certain runners

to create false belief within markets that a professional punter can take advantage of on an exchange.

I personaly have been using computers one way or another to rate races for many years as a hobby

though I drifted into greyhound racing for a long period but for the last 12 months I have worked

on prototype ratings using excel and have achieved quite good results though I have gone through

a great transitional period at least three times as I have had to re-angle my approch to the great puzzle

of race prediction analysis .

The level I am at now is pretty high and my latest carnation results are quite good but I know I have

only scrapped the surface as I look forward to developing something top secret this year of which even

the nature of I do not wish to disclose.

I am currently in tenth place in the All Weather competition on the betfair forum and the results for the last

300 races at Lingfield are extremely good and if I dont win this comp this year I know that next year I will

cake walk it though I may be betting professionally at this point so may only port out beta data for obvious reasons.

    Ran(lingfield last 300 races)        262
    Won        79
    Strike Rate %        30.15
    Ppoints Profit BSP        +166.51
