Do not do it Optic,a glass of wine with a lady,a piss up with your mates are better options.Do NOT go down that path.
By:
It you are `self excluded` you shouldn`t be allowed in the shop!!! That`s what it`s for.

This one needs a new hobby, shagging.

In fairness discussing the subject on a faceless forum with total strangers isn't the best idea as you leave yourself open to kn0bs making light of it, as there has been on this thread.

Officially yes but ask any manager of a bookie of the pressures of keeping turnover high due to area managers pressure and you can see where I am going with this. I wish I don't have to go down that path if the bookmakers take my self exclusions seriously than I won't have this option available. I have done as much as I can apart from locking myself in the house but to no avail. For some people playing fobts is harmless as it can be but for me and many others it is mental torture even when not playing you feel s**t and stressed. The fobt figures speak for themselves shame they don't publicise the family break up, suicide, crime figures then the s**t would really hit the fan.

give them another go just before you strike the first blow.....you may hit a lucky streak

point proven, thanks Broadsword. |

I agree about faceless strangers but I know the Betfair forum it is what you expect. Beats the gamcare forum anywhere with their 'there there be a good boy' approach patrionising c***s. Seriously though even if doesn't affect you personally there is a high chance it affects someone you know, family member etc. One day it could be someone close who has a serious gambling addiction and then it will change things.

Optic, even though you don't know me from adam, i for one GENUINELY wish you well. Not gonna give you any advise, just hope you beat it.
Good luck |
By:
Please don't take this the wrong way, but if you know you can't win on the FOBT what is the attraction of going back to them? I am not taking the mickey but I find it difficult to understand.
By:
No doubting these machines are addictive, but were you addicted to pub fruitys prior to this Optic? or another form of gambling like poker?
By:
yes ..wise words from barrygrant.. i dont use the bookmakers much now maybe to get a fixed odds coupon or put on a placepot..
but i have noticed how the staff are more eager to get you to stay...ie free cups of tea or coffee and free plays on the fobts. i have resisted playing on them upto now and i dont intend to start...but i certainly wouldnt mock anyone who is hooked on them. good luck in the future optic. glasgow. |

In these situations family is everything. If you don't have one ring the samaritans.

Btw bit ironic getting advice from bf punters!
By:
You must be a simpleton to play these machines, can't see the attraction. You know they're programmed to take money off you, so why play them?
By:
Very true Rob,thankfully i have never got in that deep!
By:
Nope up to 2002 no gambling problem sensible and fun. If you ask seriously any fobt addict if the machine never ever paid out would you still play the sad answer if honest would be yes. I know it sounds mad but addiction and common sense never go together. didn't play pub fruitys mates did though and knew cheats/tricks which is why I didn't play. Poker i did play online but felt too long winded to make money more a grinders game. Fobts have me by the curlies even experts in gambling addiction can't agree why people are more likely to be addicted than most gambling games.
By:
Interesting that you can't explain it, optic. I have never read/heard a convincing explanation as to why they are so addictive but there seems to be plenty of evidence that they are.

I was in a billys shop and a guy was feeding notes after notes into a FOBT machine ,after every spin he was screaming..''c nut'',..Kicking and spitting at the machine, people were very intimidated and so was the YOUNG GIRL ON HER OWN BEHIND THE COUNTER..She then told me that they've had 3 machines vandalised and are under strict instructions NOT TO CALL THE POLICE,, evidently,so many machines are smashed up by people losing so much money so quickly, that they don't want anyone to investigate..i'll find out if this is true and if so,i'm going to write to my MP .Does anybody else have any information on this.?. |
By:
Definitely no simpleton. Take a google search on fobt addiction it can affect anyone even a university professor got time for theft due to fobt addiction. I agree they are programmed to make you lose everyone knows but as I say common sense goes out of the window. I don't know your gambling preferences but the nearest I can give you as an example is imagine a Saturday afternoon 5 2nd's on the trot and then you lose 2 football games due to last minute goals. Then you go on 'tilt'. The going on 'tilt' is what an fobt addict is when they first put their first £20 in to play.
By:
Most of us have played the fruitys at least and have an idea to the addictive nature...it's another drug really...unfortunately in all aspects of life we have to learn the hard way...I guess one way to beat it is to look at each day as a winner when you don't play but realise that it's not that easy....gl
By:
If the winning doesn't matter then just buy a FOBT and install in front room.... Hours of fun with only the cost of the electricity...
By:
Chelsea girl don't know about your story. But in my city there have been numerous instances of vandalism and some customers are still allowed to play after apologising. Sadly it is all about the cash if you have it then unless you have really done something serious then you can play.
By:
Personally,i look for value.Lost a lot and won a lot. That is the game,FOBT ARE A CANCER because you do not take an opinion.

My gf a lb manager for 30 years has exactly the same thoughts as you. The addiction of these fobt's is unknown, but the outcome is easily catastrophic. Conversation on the topic is now taboo at home. |

The "BLOWER" was addictive when I first went into a bookie's.
