Brigust, you were talking about the inconsistency applied to judging these performances, I have just pointed out that you yourself are being inconsistent.

Goodness me Figgis I am not judging these performances. That is what I was doing BEFORE you said the thread title wasn't about that. So I then gave you my list of what I THOUGHT were the best performances I have SEEN. No judgements, no ratings, no calculations were involved in my selections. The only inconsistency is in what you think this thread should about. Is it about ratings or is it about best performances we have seen?

No, I said I thought it wasn't about judging the "greatest racehorse ever", I thought it was about judging the best performance, nothing I have said since has differed from that.

thank you brigust, Figgis that Arc race if memory served had more G1 winners racing against each other than any other that had been staged. The race was visually stimulating to my eye and obviously others. I think Frankel ran against a higher ratio of trees than DB did. Only my opinion but people also forget DB was a machine over a mile and IMO would have kicked Excelebration into the rough grass as easily as Frankel did. The Brave won top class events at a range of trips and I still think he was the best I have seen as a flat racehorse.

How come the brigs sussex stakes win was one of the slowest for the past 40 years, was it boggy that year?...i was only a babe in arms so it's an honest question.

Ok so in that case the best race I have ever seen was the 1971 2000 Guineas.

1111-111111-1111121 Brigadier Gerard  winner of 12 Group 1 and one Group 2 race when he beat by 3 lengths

112111-121111-11  Mill Reef  winner of 8 Group 1 races and two Group 2 races with

11111111-1232     My Swallow winner of 4 Group 1 races three quarters of a length away in third.

2112- 114       Minsky the best horse in Ireland was 9 lengths 4th.

I guess that is the best race I have seen Figgis.

And yes Duffy, they had 2 days solid rain before the Suusex putting the meeting in doubt. The going was soft.

Just a suggestion, but there are three or four good threads relating to this subject - would surely suit all if we could have one thread, perhaps on the ante-post forum as this subject will run and run, and it's a shame that the other threads with numerous valid contributions are fading away. This theme has the mileage to match the Clerkwatch thread in its pomp and even some of the long standing threads on the footy forum.

On the subject of BG those of us over 40 will probably have read the BG book and Oaksey's Mill Reef book - you couldn't read one without reading the other. It's over 30 yrs since I've read them cover to cover but on putting them down you tend to side with BG, though helped no doubt that it was penned by the owner.

When Hislop passed away, some of the old school journos ( Tony Morris being one)were  critical of some of the owners claims. Morris was sceptical about Hislops claims of why he picked Queens Hussar for his mare Lady Pavlova. He believed that he chose the stallion simply because he stood locally and was cheap and indeed that particular chapter in the book sstunk of backfitting, containing a pedigree analysis of why the owner though that Queens Hussar was the right choice. The other issue other which some doubt exists is the B&H defeat. The owner and Hern's story did not match and neither were properly substaniated.
By:
brigust1
When: 04 Aug 12 16:18
I've spoken to a few people about this and I won't name drop but my interpretation is this.

The mare was La Paiva. She was a maiden and blind in one eye. She was often barren in alternate years so Hislop sent her to the stallion literally next door because he was cheap, local and fitted the bill. Being right next door Hislop often wondered what a match would produce but he had connections with the Egerton Stud so used their stallions most of the time. On this occasion to avoid all of the travelling etc to Newmarket he used Queen's Hussar. Queen's Hussar was up until then for sale and before the mating with La Paiva an enquiry from Australia about buying Queen's Hussar was missed by his owner because he thought it was a wind-up. So clearly a lot of luck was involved. But there were loads of stallions around his area so he did do some work into which to use.

BG's defeat in the B&H was discussed at the time and, because it never really mattered then, unlike now with Frankel being compared with him, it never received much press. In the 70's horses had to race in various distances because there just wasn't the Group 1's there are now so unbeaten runs were rare. The facts of the matter are that Hern had a virus in the yard all that year and kept the details from Hislop until some time later. As Joe Mercer explained in his interview recently by the Racing Post BG was a sick horse at York. After the race back in the stables he put his head down and mucus just poured out of him. They never had blood test and trachea washes then otherwise he certainly wouldn't have run. But Hislop, in his defence, never made much of an issue about it because he never feared defeat. That is why he ran him everywhere and anywhere even on going he hated and over trips he was unproven over.
To give you an idea what Hislop was like after BG beat Mill Reef and My Swallow in the Guineas he offered their owners a rematch. Paul Mellon (Mill Reef) agreed a rematch in the '72 Eclipse but never turned up and David Robinson (My Swallow) agreed a rematch in the July Cup but he was declared a doubtful runner so BG ran in the Sussex instead. After Roberto beat BG in the B&H he asked Galbraith for a rematch in the Champion Stakes knowing if VOB won it he would be Champion trainer but they declined and got beaten in the Arc instead.

Not long after BG had gone to stud and Hislop had finished his book Hislop discovered Hern had been less than honest with him. He removed his horses from the yard and they became bitter enemies. Again in Hislops defence he never slagged off Hern ever but Hern slagged both Hislop and his wife off after they had both died. In Hern's unofficial autobiography while the Hislops were still alive he agreed that BG was a sick horse then after they had died he back tracked somewhat. Everyone in the yard knew the facts but the press coverage then etc. wasn't what is today.

Sorry to be so long winded.

I was just thinking that the staff in the yards who were privy to the causes of factual happenings, and not just the consequences ( Jesus, the finished bottle of that cheap award winning Aldi red is showing !)were quite mature in years at the time - whether its due to more of the young stable staff nowadays coming from the BHB training school and less so from being unemployable at anything else, there seemed more of a tendendcy then for the better quality sorts to find themselves with greying employees. This means that 40 years on, many involved close at hand with BG would have passed on, and perhaps some relevant anecdotes taken to the grave.

Did read the Hern book ( and the P T Walwyn book that was out around the same time) but felt as seems common with these sort of books, that it was a rushed job with the proofreaders being asleep on a few occasions.

Anyway, hope someone makes the move and starts a thread on this subject on the AP forum. Would surely live long and contributors could dip in and out when desired, no matter how long they'd gone for - and you never know someone with something to reveal might just appear on the thread on a dark December evening and start a frenzy of debate !

Brigust, I'm not trying to put Brigadier Gerard down, rather trying put some perspective to some of the performances you relate to in your posts. I think it's fair to give the same rigour of analysis to some of his opponents as yourself and others give to Frankel.

In your posts you seem to hold Sparkler in quite high regard and rightly so he was a top class miler certainly one of "the best of the rest" after the Brigadier. However yourself and others fail to give the same respect to the horses Frankel has defeated particularly Excelebration.

Excelebration, it must be remembered is undefeated since his debut in races where Frankel did not compete.
Since that first defeat to Frankel in the Greenham Excelebration has displayed form that proves him to be a miler of the highest caibre.
Won - German 2000 Guineas G2 by 7L
Won - Hungerford Stakes G2 by 6L
Won - Prix du Moulin G1 by 1.5L
Won - Gladness Stakes G3 by 3.25L

When finishing behind Frankel he has defeated 7 individual G1 winners, collateral form lines suggest he would be of a similar level if not better than Canford Cliffs, this would make Excelebration one of the elite milers of the last decade. Without Frankel around I think it's beyond doubt he would have had a least another couple of G1 wins to his name. Make no mistake Excelebration is miler richly deserving of a TF rating of the low/mid 130's.

For Frankel to dismiss opponents of the quality of Excelebration and Farhh in the manner he does shows Frankel is colt that fully deserves a TF rating in the mid 140's, and it must be remembered the apparent ease of his wins suggest he is perhaps capable of pushing on to the 150's.

SP you definitely look for obscure facts but I said before I won't go down that road. Every horse will come up against something whose form deteriorates for some reason or another some time after they have raced against BG or any other.

I'm not going to get into a detailed discussion about Excelebration either. I don't think he has earned his rating purely because much of the opposition has be scared off by Frankel. I will wait and see what Excelebration does now he is not up against Frankel. If they dare run him again that is. If I were AOB I would pack him off to stud today.
Of the 7 individual Group 1 winners you say he has defeated many were not classics and I am sure many were single Group 1 wins meaning they are not necessarilly solid Group 1 animals.

In just one race the '71 2000Gns BG beat Mill Reef and My Swallow winners of 12 Group 1's between them including a Prix Morny, Robert Papin, Gran Criterium, Prix Salamandre, Coventry, Gimcrack, Dewhurst, Derby, Eclipse, King George, Arc, Prix Ganay and Coronation Cup to name but a few. So try not to point out to me that beating Excelebration (1 Group 1 win) and Farhh (0 Group 1 wins) deserves a rating of 150, please.
By:

Excelebration earned an official rating of 116 for his German guineas win before being awarded 126 for winning the Moulin victory.
Interestingly that rating remained for his next three runs until being dropped a pound to 125 for his last run a second to Frankel.

I'd just like to throw a tuppence worth in, not to knock BG at all, but just to counter, or perhaps add a cautionary note to, some of brigust's pro-BG arguments:

That 2000gns was built up (justifiably) to be one of the greatest of all time, but in hindsight, it didn't quite match up to it:-

My Swallow was truly a great 2yo, but that's about all he was, in hindsight. He was overgrown as a 2yo, and not surprisingly, his form as a 3yo was not up to the same relative standard. He never won again after the Guineas, and his first-time out win as a 3yo was unimpressive.

Mill Reef going into the Guineas could justifiably be seen as a 7/8 furlong horse, but subsequent events proved that he was in fact a 10/12f horse - he never again ran at a mile after the Guineas.

Minsky was always temperamental - he wore blinkers, and had a hard-on in the parade ring before the Guineas. He never won above Group 3, and was shipped off to Canada after the Guineas, presumably because of his Canadian parentage, and the lesser opposition he would meet there.

What I wonder is, if Frankel had raced in 'that' Guineas, and if he had run the same race as he did in his own Guineas (which he quite reasonably would have done, as he went off in front and raced independently of all other horses), where do people (incl brigust) think he would have finished in relation to 'the big 3' of the '71 race?

And one other, different, point. My memory of Sparkler is that he was regarded as predominantly a soft ground horse, who was nevertheless game and genuine and could show good form on all ground. That QE2 that brigust frequently refers to was run on firm ground. Personally, I consider it unlikely that Sparkler showed his best form on that day.
By:

When: 05 Aug 12 11:58
That's OK Ged. I won't bring up the placed horses in Frankel's 2000 Gns. What were they Dubawi Gold, Native Knan and Slim Shadey?

All I can say is that Mill Reef won at 5 furlongs by 4 lengths, 6 furlongs (Coventry by 7 lengths & Gimcrack by 10 lengths) and 7 furlongs (Dewhurst by 4 lengths) & the Greenham over 7 furlongs by 4 lengths. When you look at the races Frankel has run in (7 & 8 furlongs) would you think he is considered more or less speedy than Mill Reef?
Mill Reef was always destined to go for the Derby plus what would be the point of staying at mile (like Frankel).

My Swallow, it is fair to say probably never trained on. After his Guineas trial canter he ran in 3 Group 1's and finished 3rd, 2nd and 2nd. Third in the Gunieas, 2nd in the Prix de la Porte Malliot beaten 6 lengths by Faraway Son who, next time out, was beaten 5 lengths in the Sussex Stakes by Brigadier Gerard. In his last race My Swallow was beaten half a length in the July Cup. The best move financially was surely to retire him. After all there were no Group 1 races at a mile or less left for him to run in.

Minsky was a bit of a monkey but he was the best horse in Ireland. He finished 2nd first time out the wom the Railway Stakes and Beresford Stakes before finishing second beaten a short head in the Observer Gold Cup (Racing Post Trophy) by Linden Tree who finished 2nd in the Derby to Mill Reef. He was unbeaten in '71 winning the Gladness Stakes and the Tetrarch Stakes where he beat the Irish 2000 Gns winner King's Company. Kings Company survived an objection and beat Sparkler a sh hd in the Irish 2000 Gns. Kings Company ran in the Sussex Stakes against BG and finished last beaten 17 lengths.
Minsky finished 9 lengths behind BG in the 2000 Gns and BG was going away at the line.

About Sparkler he ran a lot in France mainly for the prize money and to avoid BG. His win record on going was as follows: he won 13 races in all 1 on firm, 1 on good/firm, 9 on good and 2 on soft. The going at Ascot was good to firm. Nine of Sparkler's wins were over a mile.

And personally Ged, I think Sparkler did show his form that day. Lester was hoping to out sprint him in the home straight knowing how fast Sparkler was. He had just broken the course record in Deauville but BG had too much speed and class for him. If anything BG who had just won the King George & Queen Elizabeth11 Stakes over 12 furlongs and been beaten by Roberto at York over 10 and a half furlongs could have been excused for not showing his true form.

Brigust, you are blatantly ignoring clear form lines here.

When beating Canford Cliffs in the Sussex he was beating a horse that had won 5 consecutive G1's including beating Goldikova(14 G1's) in his previous race. When winning the QEII Frankel beat the Prix du Moulin winner by 4L, another 3.5L backs to a filly who had won her previous 3 starts including Coronation Stakes G1 and Jacques Le Marois G1(beating Goldikova 14 G1's), behind her was a colt who on his previous start had won the Celebration Mile G2, he in turn was ahead of a horse that had won the Premio Vittorio de Capua G1 on his previous start.

In his last race Frankel beat a horse that on his previous start was 0.5L 2nd in the Eclipse, the horse that beat him gets beat a nose in the KG by a 5L Arc winner, there was 1.5L back to the the Coronation Cup winner.

In the Eclipse, Farhh was 2.75L ahead of 4 time G1 winner Twice Over, he was 7.75L clear of the Dubai Duty Free G1 winner, he was 11L clear of the Premio Della Republicca G1 winner, he was 18L claer of the Dante winner, further behind was the horse that won Sky Bet Stakes G2 next time out, behind him was the Dubai World Cup G1(most valuable race in the world) winner. This performance was no fluke as Farhh had previously run So You Think(10 G1's) to a diminishing 2.25L.

Farhh has had only 6 career starts to date, his last 3 have been in premier open all age G1's. The horses that won those races are So You Think, Nathaniel and Frankel.

I believe I have shown with solid reasoning that these colts Farhh and Excelebration are horses that have shown the form of an above average G1 horse. The reason they have only 1 G1 between them is that they have consistantly taken on the Creme de la Creme.

It's fairly obvious we could debate all day, brigust. But what you conveniently ignore is the distance (and manner) Frankel beat his Guineas (and other) opposition. Of course his victims were (and are) inferior to BG's. That's the heart of the discussion, and is irresolvable. What is better - beating genuine G1/G2 opposition by 3 to 6 lengths, or beating G2/G3 opposition by 10 or more? There's no one answer. The debate is interesting - until it gets repetitive. I do think you keep one eye closed with your ratings gymnastics, because it's obvious how much you want to keep BG on his pinnacle. (Fundamentally, horses do not run to their TF rating every time they run. Steel Pulse, for instance, won 1 of is 10 races as a 3yo. And yet you use him as a 132(?) benchmark in your BG calcs. You say yourself that BG stayed stayed 10 and 12f, but surely you wouldn't put Parnell, Rarity, Roberto, and indeed Sparkler up in the 140s too? I respect your knowledge and your loyalty, but I do think you argue in a lop-sided way, and it does invite opposition, and your own scorn invites more of it in reply - hence the sometimes insulting tone of some of the posts here - though obviously some Frankel-fawners are at least as bad.

But I'm genuinely curious - where do you think Frankel would have finished in the '71 Guineas, if he 'reproduced' his run in the 2011 Guineas?
By:
brigust1
When: 05 Aug 12 12:23
Sorry Ged, I forgot.

In the QE11 '72 Sparkler finished 2nd and Redundant finished 3rd. Sparkler rated 130 and Redundant rated 120. Sparkler gave Redundant 7lbs, that is 4lbs more wfa than he would give today. So on ratings it is fair to say Sparkler gave Redundant an 18lb beating. I wouldn't say he ran below form, would you?

Soft Pawn I am not blatantly ignoring anything. Can you read?

I said  I would reserve judgement on Fafhh and Excelebration until the end of the season. I am not about to be told by you how good they are and I really rate Farhh but as yet he has not delivered but I am not going to knock him just to please you.
My point you keep ignoring is that the Group 1 horses Excelebration has beat is are they really Group 1 horses or just horses who have won a Group 1? There is a massive difference in that. There is a Group 1 today but can you really say the runners are Group 1 horses. There are so many Group 1's nowadays it is devalueing the breed. And I am not the only one saying that if you read the papers.

You may think you have shown with solid reasoning why these 2 colts who have won ONE, yes ONE, do you understand ONE Group 1 between them are so special but I will wait until the show it on the track.

I have state repeatedly and for you I will say it again I think Frankel is a great racehorse. A great racehorse, a great racehorse. I don't think he is a great racehorse because he has beaten nothing. He has beaten the best there is around. How much clearer do you want me to put it? I don't need you to tell me his form, I can read. All I question is how Timeform has given him the rating he has. And if you read the title of the thread I object to being called blind because I have seen better achievements. So ffs stop keep coming back at me about Farhh and Excelebration. Why don't you let them do the talking on the track?
By:
brigust1
When: 05 Aug 12 12:27
Ged I don't know. And that is the problem. Timeform have stated in their calculations Frankel would win by over a length. Well I doubt that and therein lies the problem. I think they should be rated the same until at least some time as they can be definitavely seperated. That's all. In fact I think Bg's wins were against better opposition and I also think that there are things BG did Frankel won't.
By:
brigust1
When: 05 Aug 12 12:32
Sorry pressed the wrong key Ged.

BG won from 5 furlongs to 12 furlongs.  Frankel won't.

BG won on heavy and firm ground.  Frankel hasn't yet.

BG beat a great racehorse in Mill Reef.  Frankel won't.

BG beat 2 Arc de Triomphe winners.   Frankel hasn't.

BG beat a 139 rated racehorse in Rheingold.   Frankel won't.

BG beat an Epsom Derby winner.   Frankel won't.

BG gave up to 22lbs to his opponents due to penalties. Frankel won't.

BG broke 3 courses records. How many has Frankel broken?

Just a few n the list but Frankel still has time.
By:
brigust1
When: 05 Aug 12 12:52
And Ged you too coveniently ignore down the field runs. Take Vanguard Dream for example. He finished 11 lengths behind Frankel in the Greenham and next time finished 11 lengths behind Winter's Dream in a handicap. That is what racehorse do. That is not representative of Frankel's form so we judge them by their best performances not their worst. Goodness it would be a nightmare if all we did is judge them by their worst.

And the only reason I brought up BG's successes is because a lot of people on here were probably not around when he was racing I only wish there were a few more oldies like me to balance the debate. So I point out his good points so that may help when comparing him with Frankel or the other way round.

You know once someone brought up the St James Palace Stakes where BG was nearly beaten by Sparkler so I reiterated about Frankel's SJP Stakes and I got slaughtered.

Brigust you clearly don't read or understand my argument.

Excelebration in the QEII beat a filly by 3.5L she had won her previous 3 starts including G1 Coronation Stakes  the G1 Championship race for 3 year-old fillies, she had won the Prix Jaques le Marois GI from Goldikova 14 G1 victories!!
That Qualifies as a real G1 horse easily defeated by Excelebration.

What is a real G1 horse if not the best 3 year-old filly miler who beat a 14 time G1 winner in her previous start, the 3rd in the Jacques le Marois, Saphresa is also a triple G1 winner. What criteria do you use to define a proper G1 horse.

brigust - just to comeback on one specific question you aimed at me - re Redundant. I'd raise 2 questions - 1. how do you justify using Redundant performance in that race to rate Sparkler's performance. (I realise if one HAS to rate a race, one has to make SOME kind of assumption as to which horse ran to form, but my position is that I don't have to rate races, so I tend to stick to questioning other people's assumptions), and 2. I haven't returned to the viewing of that QE2, though I looked at it a few weeks ago, but my memory is that (a) Redundant made the pace (which means he must surely have been going a fair gallop as both Sparkler and Brigadier Gerard frequently made the running), and (b) Redundant was eased down when beaten, so distances are likely to exaggerate the relative merits of the horses (not of course uncommon in a small field race).

Soft Pawn I never said Excelbration wasn't a Group 1 horse. So why don't you leave him to do the talking for you, I am?

And Ged, I don't know and nor do you. I never used Redundant to justify anything other than the fact you suggested Sparkler may have run below form. For goodness sake it was your query not mine. You are making assumptions while I am going on the facts available. If you think Sparkler ran below form and therefore Redundant also ran below form even considering Sparkler had won his last 2 races and Redundant had won 3 of his last 4 races then that is up to you. In the QE11 BG had a pacemaker who made the running. BG led about furlong out and sprinted clear so can you tell me, while we are making assumptions, if he had led 2 furlongs out and sprinted even clearer how would you rate him then? After all he stays 12 furlongs so the trip wouldn't be a problem. Of course you can't and neither can I but one thing I am certain of the distances would have been much greater. At the time all Joe wanted to do was win easily and that is what he did. There is no way he was doing anything other than running away from the other two.

Brigust some of those things you say the Brig did but Frankel hasn't or wont are really scraping the bottom of the barrel.
Frankel has never run over 5F so not really his fault he hasn't won over 5F, but in the Queen Anne he ran a sectional quicker than any the winner of the King Stand did, I think it was also shown that he would have been 5L clear after 5F of the Palace House winner in his 2000 Guineas win. Of course Frankel has been raced over 12F probably never will, but again that hardly a stick to beat him with.

Frankel again not his fault the ground hasn't turned up heavy when he's run, but did beat a King George winner on soft ground on his debut.

Not Frankel's fault there are no 140 rated horses for him to beat, but Goldikova a 14 time G1 winner triple Breeders Cup Mile winner, a horse we can use as a great miler was narrowly defeated 3 times in Europe last season, the 3 that defeated her, none have finished within 5L of Frankel.

Again not Frankel's fault he hasn't raced against an Arc winner, but he beat a KG winner who ran a 5L arc winner to a nose and defeated the previous Arc winner.

Last year's Derby winner never raced again but he beat by over 10L the runner up that went on to win the Irish Derby. You can bet your bottom dollar Camelot will not be risked against Frankel.

The structure of G1's is that everything runs at levels except sex allowance and WFT as Frankel has mostly run in G1's would not be required to carry a penalty. The only time he did, he gave 12lb and a 13L beating to a filly than was a 4L 3rd in a G1 next time out.

Frankel hasn't broken any track records yet, but it's generally acknowledged that conditions have to be right regarding ground/weather/tail wind racing pace, ordinary handicappers break track records and you said yourself the Wokingham winner ran 6F faster than Black Caviar in the Diamond Jubilee, but surely you accept that if BC had run in the Wokingham with the same weight she'd have won easily.

You woundn't want to be 5/6L adrift of Frankel 2F out, the odds are staked against you even if you're on BG, Mill Reef, Nijinsky, Sea Bird whoever.

Having said that the visual impression in the Guineas was that he looked to be tiring close home, but again we must respect the man on his back view that he was idling, you also have to consider the effort Brigadier Gerard or Mill Reef would need to put in to close that gap, they would surely be tiring close home too.

As for the St.James's Palace Stakes, that was a suicidal tactic Queally adopted and only the horse's immence ability and stamina got him home. If he would have adopted those tactics against another great miler such as Brigadier Gerard or Kris I think he would have been in big trouble. That is if BG or Kris were ridden in the manner Zoffany and Neebras were if they chased Frankel it's debatable if they could have hung on.

Soft Pawn so suddenly facts are scraping the barrel.Look you are obviously obsessed with both down grading Brigadier Gerard, I suggest a horse you have never seen, and up grading Frankel. You are perfectly entitled to do that but please stop dragging me into your obsession. All I am doing is pointing out what BG did to anyone who doesn't know. On top of that I am fielding obscure questions about horses running below form or not over their perfect distance. Notice they are all derogatory. And notice BG has been near the top of the ratings for 40 years, obviously wrongly.

I'll tell you what Soft Pawn, I obviously don't know how to judge a great racehorse so why don't you tell me then I can see where I am going wrong.

Ged where did I use Steel Pulse as a benchmark? Even if I did as I said some horses run through a purple patch and go in and out of form. In the 70s they didn't have blood tests and trachea washes so horses ran when carrying a virus etc. Anyway Steel Pulse won a Group 1 as a 2 year old, was 8th in the Derby after being hampered, finished 2nd in the Prince of Wales Stakes, won the Irish Derby and was 4th in the King George. He was also 3rd in the Washington Internation. In the Irish Derby he beat Scottish Rifle and the Irsish 2000 Gns winner Ballymore by a length and 6 lengths with Lyphard in 4th. Scottish Rifle won his next 2 races and in '73 was unlucky in the POW after winning his first 3 races then won the Eclipse. Steel Pulse wasn't always reliable and on occasion work blinkers You judge him how you wish but I think he won more that most and was a good Group 1 horse in a difficult year.

And Ged I am only stating the facts. I am not embellishing them or saying things like have been said about Frankel I have been completely reserved. It is you trying to find obscure reasons to downgrade him and I hope I have answered your queries fairly and objectively. In the end you will believe what you want to believe.

for me, as impressive as frankels guineas looked, it was a terrible ride that worked out perfectly for tom given the tactics the jocks behind employed, this combined with the distinct lack of ability the competition possessed also combined with the fact that frankel IS an exceptional racehorse but for me overall the ride was a mistake.

had Tom ridden this race against even a horse like excelebration (who isnt by any means exceptional) and excelebration was ridden to run his own race, even furlongs and not trying to chace down frankel from 5 out then it wouldve been the sjp all over again. frankel wouldve still won but by a diminishing margin with the 2nd closing fast.  if that was BG chasing him he'd have been easily beaten ...THAT DAY anyway imo. im n ot saying BG is a better miler that frankel, im just giving my interpretation of frankels guineas win.
