Ascot’s red carpet is being rolled out for the arrival on Thursday of Australia’s most famous horse since Phar Lap. Stand by for the Black Caviar show to hit British racing in the build-up to Europe’s most glittering racing festival.

The Royal meeting has been such a resounding success in attracting the best horses internationally that it has grown to become Britain’s answer to the Breeders’ Cup – and it takes place over five days. No wonder it is the envy of the racing world, and the unbeaten Black Caviar is set to play a starring role this year.
Inevitably, there have been anxious moments leading up to Black Caviar’s departure – she leaves Australia on Wednesday and will be stabled in Newmarket on arrival – and trainer Peter Moody is on record as saying he is “a bit nervous about it all”.
But what sensible trainer wouldn’t be? Moody has in his charge the biggest equine star in Australia since the legendary Phar Lap, the 1930 Melbourne Cup winner, whose career ended in tragedy when he died in California not long after winning a race at Agua Caliente in Tijuana, just over the Mexican border.
Not that Moody, nor Black Caviar’s six owners, should have any concerns on that point, though they will be fully aware that the unbeaten mare’s incredible record of 21 wins is at stake when she lines up on foreign soil in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes on June 23.
Being a true equine champion brings with it the usual baggage of saturation media coverage, which often leads to the type of speculative story that appeared on Monday in The Australian, which warned: “Doubts persist over Black Caviar trip.”
Nick Smith, Ascot’s head of communications and international racing, denied there had been any last-minute change of plans. “I don’t think there is any question of the Black Caviar team getting cold feet. I’d say they are nervous because this is a big step, and they are aware of everything that goes with it.
“But any report that says they are not coming is just complete drivel,” Smith said. “I have just received back from connections Black Caviar’s travel contract, which is an agreement covering her travel allowance.
"The shipping and the stabling at Newmarket are booked, and one of the owners, Neal Werrett, came down to Ascot last Thursday to meet Chris Stickels [clerk of the course] and others in the office.”
Smith said that international visitors were all given the opportunity to gallop once on Ascot racecourse prior to the meeting. This facility will be offered to Moody, though the serious part of the mare’s final preparation will take place at Newmarket.
Black Caviar is a best-priced 1-2 to win the Diamond Jubilee, while the nearest to her in betting is Bated Breath, at 8-1.

LUKE Nolen is not into hoopla or hyperbole, he simply tells it like it is. Nolen was as matter of fact as usual after riding Black Caviar in her final workout yesterday at Caulfield before her trip to England. Nolen said Black Caviar was "pretty close to the mark", as the countdown continues to the 1200m Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot on June 23. Peter Moody has given Black Caviar a handful of gallops since her win in The Goodwood at Morphettville on May 12. Nolen says the mare had worked well within herself for a couple, while others had been stronger. Amid the dark and drizzle yesterday, in what Nolen described as testing conditions, Black Caviar worked over 1000m, rolling home her final 600m. "I was very happy with her," he told Sydney's Sky Sports Radio. "She was a bit rusty in her first trip to Adelaide, then back to her brilliant best in The Goodwood. She's stayed on that path." No one knows how Black Caviar will deal with the more than 30-hour trip to England, but Nolen said she was "not the best traveller, but she's done a fair bit of it and has got a lot better". Black Caviar is scheduled to fly out of Melbourne airport late tomorrow night. |

  No worries megsy,she has 2 new ones to be getting on with,look like bags of shyte to my eyes but if it keeps her happy..........fine by me.One is a 2yo born in Feb(2010) from an unraced mare..........the father was a jumper.The other one is 5 and keeps trying to mount the young one.........and it was gelded at 18 months. Offers will be flooding in imo when Glencadam picks up a purse or two......the sales of her whisky have rocketed since he arrived.Expect a similar reaction when the gay boys start flouncing around Melbourne for your Mardi Gras. Once it gets out about a gay gelding.........the world will be her lobster.  |

Strange that her connections are admitting to being nervous considering some of the blinkered idiots on here are telling us she had nothing to prove.
Pardon me though if I give more credibility to those closest to the horse and with enough common sense to realise until she actually proves she can do something that she hasn't done before that they are quite understandably a little apprehensive. Good luck to her and her sporting connections on the day though and win or lose I hope they enjoy the adventure. |

JUST when everyone thought they'd seen everything Black Caviar had to offer, she produced a new trick - a striptease.
On the eve of her departure for England the champion mare appeared for her farewell media call at her Caulfield stable decked out in a slinky, clinging lycra number with her racing name on one shoulder and her stable name, Nelly, on the other. She strutted up and down, drew some whistles from her audience and then, with a little help, stripped down to bare, rippling fresh. Her trainer Peter Moody explained he'd got the idea of the lycra compression suit from rival trainer John McNair and with some help from world champion hurdler Sally Pearson had one made to help Black Caviar stay as comfortable as possible on her 30-hour trip to England. "She's quite susceptible to soft tissue injuries, muscle tears," Moody said. "I thought, 'if it's good enough for Sally Pearson, it's good enough for Black Caviar'." Black Caviar leaves Melbourne on Wednesday for a trip that is set to produce her 22nd win from as many starts in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot on June 23. It will be the first plane trip for the mare and Moody and her owners regard the flight as the most nerve-wracking part of the exercise. "It should be alright, actually flying is better than being in a truck for a horse," Moody said. Just in case, though, Black Caviar will be accompanied by a vet and two attendants on the flight that has stopovers in Singapore and Sharjah. Moody said he had his world champion in the best condition of her career. "She is as fit as I've had her at this stage of a preparation," he said. "I don't want to have to train her for the next two weeks. "She'll just go out on the gallops, there'll be no need to do anything major with her." Black Caviar is the world's No.1 mare and the highest-rated sprinter - and Moody fully expects her to retain those titles in the Diamond Jubilee. "The facts and figures tell you there's not a horse out there who can beat her," he said. In England they agree. Black Caviar is a 1-2 favourite to win the Diamond Jubilee which will be shown live at a street party at Federation Square in Melbourne's city centre. moody added, if she doesnt travel well and shows any sign, i will not hesitate to pull her out of the the race and enjoy a holiday in England instead. |

The aussies can only back her on betfair or at 1.3 with their poor excuses of bookmakers. The UK bookies (also spineless) monitor betfair closely and cut according without really laying a penny. I cant help but think bookies will at least have a go come the race day and prices up to 8/11 will be available. |

would you believe thousands of punters, young and old place a $1 each way on her, paying eg $1.04 the win. they want to frame the ticket for generations to come, to talk about the day they watched black caviar race....she is a marketing machine and a freak of nature. my only wish is for one day they give her her head and is ridden out to the line instead of being eased up furlong from home. now that would be even more spectacular.

Aintree Grand National Soon after the turn of the century it was a horse called Moifaa was the remarkable winner in 1904 when a ship brining him to the race from New Zealand was lost and the horse had to swim ashore, 50 miles it was said, to an island, he was later recovered and when on not only to run in the race but to win the race |
