The meetings he holds back are actually the ones he will be playing himself or actually attending.

Nooob, what is up. The site is down. If you are that dependant on it, have a day off. Ever thought it might be down and hes on holiday and doesnt know?

Its not as if we have to pay for it (I send him a fifty every year) but you seem like a crack addict whos only dealers been given 15 years.

Say you wanted to run a query on Nicky Henderson's strike rate in March 2010 for example, alternatives to adrian massey are:

horseracebase.com - donation based (min donation 7.5 euros per month)
raceform interactive - subscription
flatstats - they might not even do jumps (subscription)
racing post - members club (subscription)

Dont need to be a member to do that.

I understand noooob.
The site all ties up with his charity work - no site, no income.
IF closed I'm sure there would have been notice.
Back when sorted I'm sure.

Not me - as a site with thousands of daily users I'd think his in-box pretty full already!

ER WHAT HAPPENED THERE

The meetings he holds back are actually the ones he will be playing himself or actually attending.

Again, not true.  I have been a member since 2004.  When the site turned over, he stated that he would hold back a track or so a day.  When there were three, two appeared.  Four, sometimes two or three.  Evening racing was often left out.  He would have had to own a helicopter to cover all the meetings left out.

As for number of users - traffic average is 3,700 unique visitors a day.  £10 from each could make a real difference to his charity.  The link is there all the time.  No need to wait for the runs he does.

On the suggestion that a donation would automatically get you a login ID. Someone told me that there would be problem with the tax office if the charity donation were seen as payment for a service.

The charity link is separate.  It's just a 'coincidence' that a password shows up in your box once you have contributed [;)]

I too have been a member since its inception and you will find on the site when it does come back on that he even says that if hes going to the meeting, the stats wont be available to the general public.

Might just be co-incedence, but on the 1st march the advertising standards agency had its powers increased to cover online stuff as well.  Apparently the implications for web hosters, either paid or unpaid including social networks is that they are now FULLY liable for any content on their sites....even if its 3rd party ad, or a link posted in a forum to something which breaches its regulations....not just misleading advertising etc...this includes to things that cause distress (!!)
Personally I would have thought Adrian being a computer guy would have been aware of any implications to his site prior to the 1st, but although he didnt have loads of ads and ad banners (thank god) splashed all over the site.....you could post links in his forum.  he may be sorting that out?  Also, i cant remember how he worded his explanations for his top rated selections, if he inadvertently implied they had the best chance of winning the race, maybe this could be construed as mis-leading ??
But saying all that though....i dont think the downtime was planned as I was PM ing a moderator when it crashed and they didnt give me any indication that they were aware that the site was about to go down for maintenance.
I cant flick back to see who posted that the site raises £00000's for charity, but I agree, I dont think we will have to wait long before he's back, When they changed server a while back , I think it was down 2 or 3 days.

......and yes I miss him too Cry.....so bluddy bored I've ended up posting on here[;)]

Just had a response from Adrian..

"Sorry for the problems on the site.

The problem is with the company which handles the hosting of the website. Due to problems there, the site has been taken off-line (temporarily, hopefully).

Regards
Adrian"

From what I can trace, the site is possibly administered by a reseller which in turn could mean that if there is a problem with the reseller's business, there could be problems with the admin of the site.

Problems like this can be cleared up.  Been through it myself.

Probably with streamline.net (like me) which recently have major problems with their database servers.

It's not on Streamline, it's on UnitedHosting.co.uk. The server where is usually resides is up (83.223.124.18 neptune.unitedhosting.co.uk) and other sites on that IP are working fine
