horseracebase looks like u have to create your own ratings. Any sites that do what Adrian does? IE. Produce their own ratings and let u create systems that use those ratings along with ur own criteria?

horseracebase has its own ratings as well as the option of a system to create your own. Their system builder is much better than Adrian's once you get to know it and, of course, it allows you to save your systems and be notified of qualifiers. |

Its a pity about the Ratings Site.I notice the Forum is going to carry on in a different guise ... but I get the impression that is just a vehicle for Maria's ego.

A huge shame that AM wont be available after next week, still Horseracebase will keep the vast majority afloat

Once, I thought Adrian Massey was on to something with his ratings. Yet over a period of time I began to realise that he was constrained by what is essentially a mathematical process; in effect, a box-ticking exercise: ground, draw, previous form etc. Being solely computer-based, ratings could not take account of the little differences that nobody can foresee: jockey/trainer form, the horse's desire to race, sudden changes of going etc. However, anybody who was prepared to go to all that trouble for free is to be congratulated. His decision to end the project is sad, but somewhat inevitable. Nothing lasts forever.

I've been using horseracebase for the last few years mainly building systems, saving them and being notified on a daily basis of qualifiers.
When you register and get your account, you have 30 system slots available to you for saving systems. Once they are saved, when you log in (after the database update has been done overnight) you click on My System Qualifiers and it brings up a list. The categories in the System Builder are very numerous - here ia an example of a system that I have saved on horseracebase before Race Category: National Hunt Days since Run LR: Between 80 and 200 days H-Runs (Trainer): Between 3 and 16 T-Win% (Track): Between 10% and 30% H-Wins (Any): Between 2 and 10 Odds LR: Between 13/2 and 33/1 Trainer Runs Since Win: Between 4 and 10 I'm sure you get the idea and there are lots more criteria categories than the above to go at. The site has many more facilities apart from the builder and has good help text for each one. |

I'm not interested in building my own system. I'm interested in using the ratings( total) horseracebase provide for each race. Is it possible to do research on these for the last few years, as it is(was) with Massey ?

they were free well done to him for keeping it going this long, he deserves a medal, it looks like there are now 3700 users that want good ratings for free, to get the best you always have to pay, use timeform they are free and very good, lol
By:
let's be honest - the AM ratings had consistently shown a loss over the last 6 years
By:
but they were free it would not matter if the ratings lost, they were free and 3700 users who seemed to use them, they must have known they lose but they enjoyed the ratings, winning is not most punters priority
By:
"The AM Ratings have constantly shown a loss...." Not here they haven't. Depends how you use them.Do you mean a loss on Top rateds at SP. Only mugs bet at SP.
By:
is this the right room for an argument?
By:
Always argue with people who begin a sentence with "let's be honest" !

agree with artie impossible to make level stake profit at sp in every race compare am ratings small loss to racing post 2 ratings(ts and rpr)which is £8.95 a month. i used am ratings to produce a tissue in hcps and made a nice consistent profit will miss them greatly.

To get back to the point - does anyone know a ratings service with a database where the ratings can be checked back for a few years as with Massey.I'm not sure you can do that with Horseracebase ?
By:
no sorry

By:
sporting life ratings are free

By:
patternform ratings are free

I have been using Adrians ratings for several years have consistently made a steady profit, I dont have the time or intelligence to produce my own but used Adrians site as a starting point.
For those that have used Timeform or the Horseracebase - which product do you use as there are several different options?? I would like something similar to Adrians in format with ratings provided for each race from which I can use my own methods/systems. |
By:
artie knows - it's how we used AM's ratings that was important - not the cold, hard facts.
Timeform has had two bad days now - if you take their preferences. |
By:
looks like you lot will have to give up betting then
shame |
By:
I don't THINK so

By:
They don't have to be free. Just good and checkable.
By:
the conflicting variances in ratings from any site, coupled with the even more complex scenario of speed ratings from similar/same sites will produce high & low levels of success over a given period - you may step in/out at a peak or a trough time imo.

The Forum is carrying on but that is just a vehicle for Maria's ego ... The ratings finish in about a week or so.
