theres only one firm that make joints its called securicuit based around gatwick, they dont do anything very quick in fact they make the gambling commision look like marwell, regarding renting joints thats not as easy as you think as around 30% of the courses dont have a joint man ,so it depends on what part of the country you intend to bet at.

I'm not saying no but I don't think I've seen any hired joints at either of these two places. I think all of us who work these two courses have our own gear. |

Regit, Who snaps up the second hand joints? Is it Steptoe and Son?

Thanks for all the replies lads. I will be based down south (from essex) so won't be travelling for more than 2 hours ideally. As I am only just starting up and don't have huge amounts of capital a second hand one/ hire would be my first option.
Another question, would you all suggest hiring an LED board and battery to start of with as RDT charge over £5ooo for them. Again, any help/advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers |
|
By:
hire cost very expensive

Having actually properly read the thread, I take back thanking for all the replies. It seems foxy is the forum bully. Thanks to all helpful posters, if only everyone on the forum were like it. Cheers

By:
Fairtrader - Save your money - the on course game as gone in the south!
|
|
By:
you will definitely need an led board,no chance without, not ideal but you can probably get one of the old version second hand for 2k or a bit less.
|
|
By:
fairtrader
if you read the thread properly you will realise it wasnt foxy who posted so dont call her a bully,it was made clear that was my post i was in her account at the time,if you are been serious about your question then fair enough but all to often on this forum people ask these questions and never acknowledge the replies. regarding led board you quite simply must have one, been based in essex puts you in a good position for renting joints . |

If you're just starting up you've got to be prepared to travel until you can buy decent pitches closer to home. About a month ago there was a position sold in Tatts at Chester for about £300/£400. It wasn't a pitch but it would probably get you on everytime you wanted to work out of it.You have got to be very carefull where you buy into. For instance no doubt you'll want to buy into Royal Ascot, well at this stage don't buy into Tatts, buy into the silver ring about number 50.This number will be perfectly workable for you until you get some experience & a tank built up.Wherever you buy into make sure they have some decent days, don't buy for the quantity of days go for somewhere that has some decent days.Be very selective about which days you work, for instance if you do buy into Royal Ascot forget about working the Tuesday & Wednesday. They are a waste of time & the expenses are just the same. This may seem crazy to you & a lot who don't understand the game but a pitch in Newcastle Tatts wouldn't be a bad buy for you but you must buy a pitch here,a number outside the designated numbers here is no good as you could travel all that way & not get on.Plate day & Ladies day are very good, just work these two days per year & you'll get wages out of the place.Once again I'll repeat it may sound crazy to travel as far as these places but if you want to survive these are the type of places you have to go to & the distance you will have to travel.Once again I stress be careful where you buy & don't work for the sake of working or you'll sharp go skint. Best of luck if you do go ahead with it. |

Sorry, just re-read the top and now that makes sense, apologise to you and fox, I'm a forum newbie and didn't realise, I thought foxy were just referring to your post. To Jimnast and Ribero1 do you believe that the on-course game 'has gone', personally I can't think of better job. Again, thanks for any help. |
|
By:
If you can wait until Sept 2012, there'll be loads of joints for sale !!
|
|
By:
Thanks allpoints.
From the south is there any suggestions/stay away from tracks. Cheers |
|
By:
Fairtrader - In my experience, second hand joints and 2nd hand light boards are incredibly difficult to get hold of and the price of new is high. Good luck with your search though, and good luck in your new venture.

By:
Do yerself a favour kid stay away from Goodwood in the south, the x's will kill you.
|
|
By:
Fairtrader - The advice you have been given on here is genuine and helpful. But before you consider packing in your job, ask your future colleagues "How many of them made a profit on course over the past twelve months"???

Got a 16 line board you can buy for £4K
It's an old Exante one which works fine - supplied with wires for Exante system or RDT I want to upgrade mine as I've got 2 other RDT boards and it would be easier when I use all three on the same day. Ps it won't be easy for you to make a living - but not impossible |
