Best wishes to you and your family noc. Much as this Gov would like to think, Covid hasn't ' gone away ' and we still need to be vigilant.
Couldn't help thinking with the massive crowds at Cheltenham, that many will be infected. ![]() |

Thanks for replies .... I,m fine at the moment, negative test this morning, like all parents,I'm more concerned for my daughter, also the fact she lives alone.
Mrs Noc is a trained nurse, works in a clinic, treating joe public throughout the week. They have a checklist before treatment, she is astonished how many are coming in with "flu/cold like symptoms",yet have not tested at home, not all ignorance either, lack of awareness by many. Thats a fair point Pete re Cheltenham, when I saw that ITV guy in the ring pulling wads out the satchels, exact same thought, how many betting slips/notes changed hands over the 4 days? Been looking at this afternoons cards,if I'm off to our maker, can the Racing Gods please take this into consideration,I know Saturdays is a busy day for them ![]() |

Interesting GI .... caught part of that clip yesterday, but not the whole version, good link.
I wonder what goes through punters minds when we do watch races back, are we able to really look at races objectively, removing ourselves from any personal views, either pre/post race. Very rarely discussed in my experience,I would argue it is a huge part of our punting armoury. At the risk of singling out one ride, there were others too, this was a classic case of how not to ride the new course at cheltenham, not based on this result alone. Those first two races Friday were almost carbon copies of where you wanted to be,at the business end. Having backed First Street, removing the "he ran well" tag, leaves the question, did he achieve his best possible placing? Example .... Jump back to the 2021 county,I got exactly the same feeling watching that replay back, did the best horses finnish in the right order, were they in the right place as the race unfolded. Belfast Banter and Petit Mouchoir were 1st/2nd,a year on I think PM was the better horse on the day.Neither were in the right place, yet they overcame poor track position to beat the rest. A few weeks later,Belfast Banter came out at Aintree and put that form on the line in a grade 1 novice hurdle,on paper 8lb below some rivals,he came out on top. There was something else about Belfast Banter that day in the county, which you could only tell once they were in the parade ring,it was a massive clue to his chance, one of you on here knows the answer,I wonder how many others spotted it. In essence, forget what you may read regarding many of the results last week,on some occasions the best horse will have won,and placed, but not always. Aintree will see plenty of these horses re-oppose,finding those clues from cheltenham are the hard part, but not impossible, maybe a starting point over the next couple weeks for all of us. |

It's funny, immediately after the race I thought he ran well enough, I guess I was thinking about my nice place money. After watching the video I'm thinking he could never win it given his position, you could see the winner ahead sitting nicely throughout, away from the pack, that counted for a lot at the end. I doubt my lad would have beaten him, but Fleet Street took a similar path and he could have caught him.
Interesting watching that video, I'll be backing him again over further. |

Exactly, where he came from in the race is key,he ran a screamer in those circumstances.
As for "over further",possibly,if you think it was run on the stated gd/sft. Just 4.25 secs outside standard tells a different story, yet that going report will stay in the record books forever.Which is why these going reports,at many tracks, make form study virtually impossible if you take them literally,If your having to 2nd check every single piece of form against the races run on the same day,it gets to the point where you wonder if its worth it. Watching the race tactics from certain individuals another factor, same mistakes, year in year out,I,ve said many times privately to a few on here, however well handicapped the horse, they will get it beat. Watch all 7 replays friday, glaringly obvious where you did not want to be. I accept some were there for the run only, yes even at the festival it happens, when I hear them about "jockey coaches" it makes me cringe, perhaps its just me who's not getting it. My least enjoyable Cheltenham in memory, everything about it I,m beginning to hate. |

Not so good if that's how your feeling about it noc, some top racing on the horizon to take your mind off it. Ayr and Aintree cracking meetings for a punt.

^^^^ I bet your quicker in that Kelso ring
![]() Our old pal Hill Sixteen got clobbered with a 9lb rise for finnishing 2nd at Kelso. Nuts Well who won the race, goes up 6lb. Hill sixteen when with Twister, won his last chase off OR 126,9 runs later as a nine yr old he finds himself off 147,without winning a chase start since 18 Nov 2020. There may have been higher rated horses behind him lto,but that rise seems ludicrous on all known form, surely this must be driving owners/trainers up the wall ..... Madness. Ignore my earlier ramblings, still negative and out of hibernation. Regarding our beloved Festival,I do wonder if we finally saw a british trainer saying "Enough is Enough". I,m not so sure the Champion trainers horses were withdrawn purely based on conditions. He may not have the grade 1 ammunition of days gone by,but he has plenty of decent handicappers he could saturate some of the races with,he chooses not to,I wonder why. Racing may make the headlines in the next week, with a certain appeal taking place.I hope I,m wrong,I have a feeling that the appeal and outcome were sorted months ago,we will see. Just the two questions for me,that will probably not even be mentioned. 1 Who in their right mind thought the two jockeys should still ride against each other, once these allegations were made, somebody is accountable? 2 Who controls the Power Within British racing? Could be that the answer to question 2,leads us to a clue regarding this whole episode. Regardless of the outcome,I can see no winners in this, shambles of an affair. |

Hibernation back .... Tested positive overnight.
Some 7 days after coming into contact with my daughter, who had no idea herself at the time she was positive. Despite being really cautious throughout,I,m not surprised, numbers have been soaring in recent weeks. Been outside all week re-pointing the house, keeping pretty busy, away from anybody. General flu like symptoms this morning, the lateral flow was pretty instant, amazing bit of kit. It does feel like we are going down that "Herd Immunity" pathway, time will tell how that pans out. On the plus side,my daughter feels back to normal and tested negative yesterday, great news. As always, good luck if your playing today. |
