Fabre hinted Persian King (PK) has the options of for the Champion Stakes or the Arc. The Arc? Is he for real? PK was easily cast aside by Sottsass in the French Derby last season.

I think the Irish Champion will tell connections whether he's regressed after his lacklustre performance so far this season; Almanzor he certainly is not.

If Ghaiyyath bombs Sottsass could be the beneficiary. I'm surprised Moore is riding Japan and not Magical. The former was lame after a stone bruise during his last race.

Raabihah was beaten at Longchamp today. Has her Arc bubble been busted? I understand her pilot was sitting plum-last nevertheless, she never looked like winning at any stage; being saved for the main event? I've my doubts.

yeah beaten but not disgaced ,and must be remembered its a trial for the arc no point in a hard race 3 weeks before the main event ,happy with my 2 tbh . love the fav has beaten trees ,it remains to be seen how she gets on against better horses ,she may well be up to it but is no value ,enable is she as good as she was ? stradivairous will always be vulnerable in this class over this trip.

I cannot back Raabihah after today. If she was catching the winner at the business end I would give her another chance. I wonder why Rouget ran her over 12f prior, and not Avenir Curtain who'd better credentials. And, she did not stay this race either.

I still prefer Rouget's other contender ie Sottsass. The price difference between the two baffles me big time.

Enable. Holds her form well

Doubt Love will be quite so effective round Longchamp on probably sticky conditions

@A_T & @FELTFAIR re Love and Mogul

One imagines "the lads" will be having a rethink after the success of both Mogul and Anthony Van **** in the Arc trials. Both had been pencilled in for Australia and HK, which makes sense if they are in future to be Southern hemisphere stallions but, especially with Galileo getting on in years, it is possible Coolmore might raise their sights. For Love, an Arc win or defeat will make no difference to her paddock value; she is already a dual Classic winner; it is more about the sport for her.

So far this is just my opinion. There is no sign a rethink is happening but it is early days.

well if theyre running in arc trials then they should be in the raceLaugh

this was my thinking - Mogul put up the fastest performance yesterday. Coolmore will surely know if Love is the better horse - but Mogul has seemed to be their #1 3yo colt this year - just hasn't performed so far. If Mogul was trained by Fabre after yesterday we'd all be purring over it's Arc chances - but we figure that O'Brien has the measure of all his horses, that he thinks Love can't be beaten by anything in his yard so won't be sending Mogul to Paris. But if they think Mogul can win the Arc they are not going to want to lose the chance of marketing a Galileo-sired 3yo Arc winning colt by having it beaten by one of their fillies.
By:

There's a case for Mogul being a late developer, but Anthony Van Dyck (AVD) is so exposed; he beat a marathon horse in the Prix Foy thus not worthy of consideration. On the other hand Serpentine and even Tiger Moth are worth consideration, but Coolmore's numero uno is 'Love'.

I'm sure they think they know, just as I think I do.

if they think Mogul can win the Arc

From what I've seen of their colts this year they have two ways of running. Yesterday's win was reasonable form for a Gp1 but far from outstanding. Love has been targeted at the Arc since the Oaks. Are they going to withdraw what they see as their best chance just to substitute a colt who may or may not be good enough on the day and may or may not even put up a performance? Seems highly unlikely to me. They won't know for sure if Love will perform on the day either so it's possible they'll throw Mogul in the mix. That seems to be their modus operandi anyway these days. While the yard may remain consistent in their success their runners in recent times haven't been the most consistent. I just don't see Love not running unless there's a problem.

Using market as a guide.

Proven Contenders eg:-
1) Enable - 2x winner and runner-up
2) Sottsass - 3rd/ran well in Irish Champion
3) Japan - 4th
4) Magical - 5th

Of the above Japan is the most unlikely on present form. Others could win or place again.

Potential Contenders eg:-
1) Love - 1000G and Oaks winner (both easily done); getting wfa allowance
2) Raabihah - disappointing over distance 1st time
3) Stradivarius - disappointing/underwhelming
4) Mogul - late developer/unlikely runner/worth consideration, if so
5) Serpentine - decent effort/race rusty/gifted Derby

Of the above only Love and Serpentine could win. The rest potential/stamina exposed eg Raabihah and Stradivarius.

Long range weather forecast is friendly to horse racing. I hope fair ground for all.

Less than 2 weeks to go, and a few of the fancies in the French Trials have come up short eg Raabihah, Stradivarius and Serpentine; Ghaiyyath was beaten over his optimum distance in Ireland thus very unlikely to come this way, I believe.

I think the ground is good at the moment with a smidgeon of precipitation between now and race day.

The market has it as a 2 horse race but why is Logician 150? Surely it would be third fav. if there was a chance it might run?

How good is Mishriff? Back in June he was really impressive on fast ground at Newmarket and since then hasn't stopped improving. He might give the females something to think about. I think I'll keep my money in my pocket and cheer Enable on.

Mishriff will be winning this year's Champion stakes like Cracksman instead of the Arc

By David Milnes
UPDATED 3:28PM, AUG 28 2020

Mishriff will not be supplemented for the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe with connections preferring a crack at the Qipco Champion Stakes at Ascot later in October.

The Prix du Jockey Club winner, who had ranged between 10-1 and 12-1 for the Arc with most bookmakers, is now 5-2 joint-favourite with Paddy Power for the Champion Stakes following the news that he will not join stablemates Enable and Stradivarius in the Longchamp line-up.

Speaking to the Racing Post, trainer John Gosden revealed: "After discussions with owner Prince Faisal and his team, Mishriff is to have his next outing in the Group 1 Qipco Champion Stakes at Ascot in October. We discussed the possibility of running him in the Arc, for which he would have had to be supplemented, but he's shown this year that he is very much suited to a mile and a quarter.

"This looks the best plan going forward and he won't mind whatever the ground turns out to be come October as he's shown he's quite versatile in that regard."

Mishriff won the Group 1 Prix du Jockey Club over 1m2½f early last month, beating The Summit by a length and three-quarters, and was even more dominant against the same opponent at Deauville this month with a four-and-a-half-length victory in the Group 2 Prix Guillaume d'Ornano over a slightly shorter trip.

If all goes to plan, Prince Faisal's retained rider David Egan should be reunited with the three-year-old at Ascot, having missed the French Derby win due to travel restrictions and the Deauville triumph due to a ban.

I think Gosden does not wish to make the same mistake with Mishriff running him over 12f like he did with Roaring Lion. Also, with Enable and the marathon king in the field why put all your eggs in one basket when he's market fav and most of his main protagonists are not certain to show up.

It looks as if there will be plenty of rain during the next 10 days in Paris which may not be good news for favourite backers. Soft ground would help Stradivarius, who gained his best ever ratings on soft ground in the Gold Cup, and 16/1 might look like very good value come Sunday week.

An astounding decision by Fabre to run Persian King here (if he actually turns up). Ownership induced perhaps. He was thrashed by Sottsass in the French Derby. I'd have him for the Champion Stakes if he shows.

He almost certainly won't stay but if he does he'll win with the mile speed he has. Just checked his price now he's been confirmed and thought the bookies won't take any chances and will be lucky to get 16/1. He is 33/1 with 356! Had to back him. I'm pretty sure you will be able to lay it off on here a lot shorter so it is really free money/bet. I'll just let the bet run though.

A Fabre has nothing worthy in the race as every one of his major contenders have fallen by the wayside eg Victor Ludorum and Ocean Atlantique; Persian King (part-owned by Godolphin) was stuffed by Sottsass thus only a miracle can exact revenge over the latter.

There's still no news about the participation of Raabihah. However, the market does not reflect optimism.

Have no bet placed on the race currently, however I’m half expecting Love to be available at 7/4 - 2/1 on the day due to the “Frankie factor” and the fairytale “third arc” ending to Enable’s spectacular career, therefore holding off until the day. Similar to most, she’s been my idea of the winner for some time, but kept holding off as I half expected something to come along and shake up the market slightly, particularly Raabihah in the Prix Vermeille earlier this month. She of course was underwhelming and Love shortened further as a result.

In my opinion, this is strictly between Love and Enable and for the sake of the sport, I hope there are no hard luck stories and they are both eyeballing each other 2f out with a clear passage then it’s a case of may the best horse win. They’ll both be relatively close to the pace I would imagine, however with O’Brien also running Serpentine (to be supplemented), Mogul, Japan and Sovereign it’s hard to imagine team tactics not coming into play which of course would be a concern for Enable.

Let’s hope for a race to remember and for all the right reasons - especially with all that’s happened this year!
