I didn't back her at the big prices because i thought they were too big if you know what i mean

You'll have to spell it out for me.

No problem Pete. When i think a horse should be around 16/1, and it's around 43/1 on here, i sometimes take the view that maybe someone has read something that i haven't, and that the horse may be a doubtful participant with an alternative target.

If you heard Joseph O'Brien interview on ATR I'd say the Arc is very unlikely, was convinced he's a better horse at 8-10f.

I believe he is better over 10f as he has such a high cruising speed, but he's a dual Derby winner and with the other main Arc contenders disappointing the temptation to run him may prove too much if the ground is right.

12f around Longchamp is also much easier than 12f around Epsom.

Speed to win over 10f and the stamina to have already won 2 Derby's. Perfect combination to win the Arc. Weather will dictate if he turns up or not.

Wide open look to the race this year with STM blotting his copybook yesterday. Major uncertainties with all the favourites.

STM has to improve a great deal on his 122 Derby win anyway and after yesterday, who knows?

Treve has to prove she is back but back to back wins are rare in any event.

Australia is not being targetted at the race yet and is ground dependent.

Just A Way has big stamina doubts.

Taghrooda lost her invincible look but could still win on her KG run - but KG/Arc double same year is difficult.

Tapestry an Arc winner? Don't think so.

Next Sunday is Arc trials day and the market will get another shake up. Time to look further down the list.

Supplementaries will im sure surprise a few, think it will pay to look at the entries at Leopardstown, the Curragh, aswell as Longchamp

I agree with most of that Sandown.
Taghrooda may well have felt the affects of her George win last time out, but is a stiff task to bounce back now.
I backed Eagle Top for this a while back at 25-1 and have gone in again at much bigger odds.
Thought he ran well in the George on ground that would not have suited.
Hopefully he should get softer ground here and I think he can run a massive race. His form is looking pretty good.

FRANKIE DETTORI was a "very disappointed" jockey after learning he is to be replaced by Thierry Jarnet on Treve for the last two outings of the brilliant Arc winner's career.

The shock news is the result of a direct appeal by trainer Criquette Head-Maarek to owner Sheikh Joaan Al Thani to make the switch in the best interests of the filly.

Dettori will be on duty for the sheikh on Richard Hannon-trained Osailla in the Group 1 Moyglare Stud Stakes at the Curragh on Sunday, while 47-year-old Jarnet partners Treve in the Prix Vermeille as she preps to defend her Arc crown in the Qatar-backed Longchamp showpiece on October 5.

Al Shaqab racing manager Harry Herbert told the Racing Post: "Criquette came to the sheikh and to to me too, and has spoken to Frankie."

Head looking for a scapegoat. Hope she gets stuffed now. If she wins she will blame the jockey for her being beaten when in actual fact it was trainer error. Simple as that.

Jarnet seemed to do a good job with the steering last year

To be fair...in this instance...switching back to a French jockey is no bad thing.

She has history. She wanted rid of Peslier but the owners took their horses away instead. Treve's owners should have done the same. Weak.

It's very sad to witness a trainer blaming jockey actions for her own misjudgment and impatience with getting Treve ready. Could not have Treve on my mind on anything shown this year.

This is getting ridiculous,  3 weeks away and i have not got a clue.

I think i might leave the arc this year, and look at some of the other races on the card

Probably good advice. Every year i love betting on the arc and then after the race i vow never to bet on it again.

On leading light this year. Wont even try to justify why, but hope he gets a run

Looked very smart at 2(yo) & his only run this season.

Blimey

That was very impressive indeed from Ectot. What is there not to like about him? Stays, has an amazing turn of foot, hasn't raced for ages and was too fresh so massive improvement almost certain.

Only downside I can see is that he might conceivably bounce after such a long lay off.

The opposition (at time of this post) have a bit to prove. Not sure that Taghrooda's York form was right as she may have been is season, and she was brilliant at Ascot, but there are doubts about Treve this season, and how good the Japanese horses are is unclear.

I think Ectot should be the new favourits myself and for those who never go decent odds before are still able to get decent odds. I would have him as a 4 or 5/1 shot rather than a 10/1 myself.

Another upset as Treve again ran flat. I have felt since Ascot that she has not trained on and still believe that. Gutted to see Pomology beaten though.

From his obituary...

He had the ability to identify a horse as a Derby candidate long before the horse knew it was a horse. He was urging his readers to back Shergar at 25-1 months before it won the 1981 Derby at 10-11. Baerlein was not one to make recommendations he would not follow himself and a few months later he and his wife, Laurette, moved into a new house on the south coast. The name hanging above the door was "Shergar".
