Sorry, it was 5.7 Treve and 6.6 Kingston my place bets. Puts in perspective what a generous place price it was!
By:
You may be right Uncle. But then again. It is something we will never know but I would have preferred a strongly run race there are less excuses for beaten runners that way.
By:
Nothing wrong with the pace of the race - time was fast.
By:
That almost proves the point A_T. Would like to see ROTW go for the Champion Stakes now.

Proves what?

The clock says the following
1.Treve - Based on last years run but can`t not back her despite this years disappointments.Backed e-w. The clock rarely lies. Am I feeling smug. Yes. |

Well done Felt. Probably the best price she was all year.
Often slowly run races can produce fast times A_T. Frankie dictated the running in the Foy and it was the fastest ever. Must have something to do with finishing fast as opposed to running out of steam. |
By:
The Derby form looks much better now than it did!
By:
Kingston Hill doing his best work at the finish again.
By:
That's called a truly run race and it's a measure of how good Treve is that she has destroyed the field in the world's #1 flat race 2 years running. An truly brilliant filly.
Often we marvel at horses coming from last to first to win but all we're seeing is horses at the front stopping because they've gone too fast early on. |
By:
Incidentally the Ganay/Coronation Cup form was pretty much replicated today. Looks almost certain that Treve injured herself at Royal Ascot but came back to herself today
By:
A_T, the ground was unusually fast this year, hence the fast times.
By:
I'm certainly not knocking Treve A_T she had the best form in the book if she found it, and she did. It's just that, like last year, there will be loads with excuses. I don't think the Arc is won by horses beating tired horses because of the nature of the track with its downhill run before the false straight etc. A lot of horses quicken up the home straight but some quicken faster than others. But when the race is falsely run the one with first run often wins or goes very close.

And to think I had a oner on Flintshire to win the King George at 18's only for him to be withdrawn on the day with a temperature. Damn it.
By:
I will be forever disappointed that both the English and french Derby winners were not present today,it takes so much away from the race, and similar comment on the King George. Why ?
By:
just been through the also rans, a small mention for Al Kazeem who was far from disgraced...
By:
champions day does not do it for me, The Arc and the Breeders does(each to their own) but racing in danger of losing some of its appeal too me.
By:
Pity Australia didn't run he might have finished second.
By:
They could scrap that end of year Ascot afterthought.
By:
He may have won AT we will never know. but a very good run from a wide area from Kingston Hill.
By:
I want too see Australia in the turf, not a repeat of beating Flintshire.
By:
I backed Hard Star I hope the jockey enjoyed his day out he certainly had a good look round Longchamp racecourse.

I'm pretty sure I said at the time Treve's race last year was falsely run and could have been over rated so I find it no surprise she hasn't stepped up to the plate at 4. lol |
By:
Racing is so far spread out that trainers get confused about targets, without the Ascot end of season afterthought, it would almost guarantee that we would see Derby winners competing in the ARC or Breeders over their trip(far too much racing)
By:
One last moan,if a jockey struggles to ride at 9 stone,he should not be in the flat game,he may very well make a top class jumps jockey, but lets not put doubt into customers - punters minds that a jockey may be overweight in a Group race ffs.
By:
Autocue, when you have a minute, perhaps you can tell me where, before 14th Sept, Treve HAD stepped up to the plate? And of course there is a possibility that Treve didn't have to step up to the plate to beat this bunch. After all she beat Flintshire by 12 lengths last yer and only 2 lengths this year. Just a thought.

20 runners and harp star ended up 11 wide. Geography isn't my strong point. What country would sea the moon be in right now if he had turned up ? I was chuffed with Flintshire. I thought he ran very well. I wish that old trout had retired treve. Well in there treve backers. I backed her last year, but just didn't have her on my radar this time. Good race. The arc to me is the biggest flat race of the flats yeah.

In hindsight, Treve's season can be understood better:
Two runs over 10f - not her ideal trip. First, a monumental effort against a legendary soft ground battler in which she just gave best. Second, another inadequate test over 10f on good to firm, when despite feeling the effects of both the ground and the battle with Cirrus, she ran perfectly creditably in a race with the subsequent Eclipse winner in behind. If you accept that Magician ran right up to his best that day, you have to say that it was a very good piece of form over 10f. And then a few months off and a reasonable pipe opener. Brig, don't know if you saw this post sent earlier by Howlsey? To slog it out with Cirrus des aigles involves stepping up to the plate big time , he is a monster on very soft ground , well that is my opinion anyway. |

A fantastic performance again from Treve.
Well done Mac99. A large plate of humble pie for me. Got that completely wrong. I thought Taghrooda did herself justice and Kingston Hill. Both jockeys gave them great rides and shows with a bit of skill, from a bad draw you can still give your horse a chance. We knew how the Japanese jockeys like to ride their horses before the race but off a steady gallop they were in dream land if they thought they could make up that much ground. Harp Star's jock was busy signing autographs on the near rail in the home straight. |
By:
Brig is doing more backfitting than a wardrobe maker. Scandalous imbecile.
By:
well spotted autocue. Literally dozens of contradictory posts like that from Brigust all over the forum.
By:
Have any of the Arc runners been mentioned as possible Champion Stakes runners?
By:
Varian quoted as saying he would n't 100% rule the Champion Stakes out for KH if it got testing.
Gosden states he thiunks Tag is retired unless the owner wants to go to Breeders Cup Turf, I just read. |

Ectot finishing 17th is a big surprise. He never looked like he was travelling at any stage.

Do not agree that CDA needs soft ground to show his best
4322/21222211223312115/4311297/23212111215/2112d12/54251123-421111d beaten on soft ground many times and won many times on soft but plenty good ground form as well and good ground G1 form . CDA was fitter than Treve first time up and the press were quick to mark Treve down rather than give credit to CDA because he is an 8yo and not a confirmed 12f G1 horse and hails from a unfashionable stable . CDA beat SYT in the CS on good ground ,soft ground horses dont do that ,even when he was beaten in the KG on fast ground i dont think ground alone was the reason ,trip and not being right but people think he is a soft ground horse ,not so . yesterdays run was pretty lively ground as well ,its not so imo ,horse handles most ground ,best on a decent surface imo . |

Guess the Niel was as good as he gets - I backed him but really there was no form that has him winning an Arc just based on a hope that he was an improving type that might peak on the day.
By:
but 17th, AT? Surely not run to his best today.
By:
off the track for a long time before the Niel so maybe he bounced
By:
reckon he did AT. Remember he clocked the quickest time on Arc trials day so that with the lay-off would probably make him a candidate for ''bounce''
