Actually Bread both BG and Frankel were 4 year olds when they won the Lockinge and the Champion Stakes in the same year. BG did win the Champion Stakes the year before as well.
In BG's Lockinge 3 year olds were allowed to run and finished 2nd and last receiving 22lbs and 24lbs.  BG beat Grey Mirage by 2.5 lengths with Gold Rod 8 lengths away in third. Grey Mirage won the Ascot 2000 Gns trial by 6 lengths and the Kempton 2000 Gns trial by 5 lengths but, although 2nd favourite only finished 8th in the 2000 Gns behind High Top and Derby winner Roberto. He was rated 124 by Timeform. Gold Rod ended the season rated 120. That was 9lbs lower than he had started the season. The last horse home was Crespinall ridden by Willie Carson who went on to win the Nassau Stakes at Goodwood.

To me Farhh is not a soft ground 10f oss .

breadbutter, Farhh has a hefty knee action and will devour the soft ground imo.

Agree with plenty of Figgis' earlier comments re Farhh, his win in the Thirsk Hunt Cup (times indeed suggested soft ground, not official good to soft) off 100 was a massive effort on the clock and told you he was already bordering on Group 1 class.... He missed the start badly that day and still bolted up by 6 lengths under an apprentice... and missed the start badly under Dettori next time in the Group 1 Prince Of Wales when 3rd to So You Think but for which he may have won. Given way too much to do by Dettori in the Eclipse next time when touched off by Nathaniel and then clocked a career best time figure imo when 7 lengths 2nd to an imperious Frankel (arguably his own lifetime best) in the Juddmonte at York over 88 yards further than 10f.

Wouldn't go as far as saying the Lockinge was the best performance this season, but he won easily there with plenty in hand and that still leaves him 3lbs clear of anything the opposition have achieved this season imo.... and 6lbs short of his own personal best in a very light career for a 5yo.

9 career starts and despite continual interruptions with injuries in all 4 seasons raced, he's shown up for the gig every time and not once run a bad race. He must be very tough in mind.

Farhh's sire Pivotal needs no introduction, whilst his dam won plenty in soft ground in Germany including the second of two Group 1 victories over 12f as a 3yo. Absolutely 100% certain that this horse goes on soft ground..... and stays every yard of 10f

just think it is too fast for a 10f soft ground horse if that makes sense ,but agree it does have a high  action .

think its run behind SYT at ascot was flatering ,they went very fast and it held up off the pace and got stopped .

dont rate the lochinge and it was a long time ago ,it did look improved but what did it beat ?

pivotal ...SMP trained winner at ascot and produces winners at any distance on any ground ...

yea you could be right ....backed farhh in all those races he was beaten in and am probably just sick of it Laugh

mon the old snail Laugh

Ped, funny you say he was 6lbs short of his best in the Lockinge, as I rated it exactly a 6lbs improvement, I only rated him 127 last year (Timeform scale).

Joking aside i dont think the target for this horse is the Champion stakes and reckon the reason its been off is other things and just feel it wont be its day .

I hate to rain on your parade guys but goodness knows what you will do when a proper horse comes along. You really can't see how weak these races are becoming and the breed.
Farhh is a decent horse by today's standards but the opposition isn't great.
He beat Soveriegn Debt in the Lockinge. No wins since.
He beat Sarkyla in France no wins since.
He beat Gabrial at Goodwood only a Listed win from 12 starts since.
He beat Twice over in the Eclipse who is clearly not the same horse he was (see Juddmonte).
He beat Reliable Man at Ascot who has just won in Australia.
He Beat Osteopathic Remedy at Thirsk Three wins from 21 starts in hcaps.
He beat Roayh no wins from 7.
And he beat Flodden no wins from 5.

His only success, if you want to call it that, was beating St Nicholas Abbey by a whisker at York where JOB rode a shocker in a muddle of a race over an inadequate trip for St Nic.

This is a race where only three horses have won at Gr1 level and 2 of them only once. Ruler of the World won the Derby but if you ignore Dawn Approach only one horse has won a Gr3 from the race since.
CDA took 40+ runs to win a Gr1 after the horses that beat him retired. He was won 3 Gr1's from his last 14 starts. And he only had this stuff to deal with mostly on ground and conditions that favoured him. And Farhh has won his only Gr1 this year in the Lockinge.

Of the other fancied horses:
Hillstar has been beaten in a handicap.
Morandi beaten at Gr3 level.
Mukhadram finished 5th in the Cambridgeshire.
Triple Treat beaten in Group 3.

Goodness me.

think just taken Cirrus longer to come back to his best as a 7yo, so wouldn't give up the faith with him yet despite Corinne letting you down Shocked

not original, can't see past him or Farrh, the latter is the value at 4/1 of the pair though, think it will be close.

Of the bigger prices, Hillstar the absolute stand out at 16/1. His King George run a big effort and won only start on soft ground which his breeding suggests he should love. But think he will have to improve fair bit to trouble the front pair. Odd that Moore riding Ruler Of The World - maybe a big hint there? If it went heavy, Morandi has a squeak, but don't think the ground will get that bad.
1st Farhh
2nd Cirrus
3rd Hillstar
4th Ruler Of The World....

Pretty close to how I see it. I started off trying to pinch it with CDA and should have laid off when his price dropped but then thought it looked like a 2 horse race so added Farhh. AOB added ROW to my surprise and now I've ended up having a saver on Muk and Hill as well. Fortunately my savers are outsiders. If I come out 35% up I will be happy.

Briggsy, you're the Form Guru but you had few quid on Camelot!!! LaughLaugh

I've got a vivid imagination being a Graphic Designer so I've topped up my 40-1 EW on Morandi and added 14-1 EW with SJ. Bloody Pricewise. Devil

Farhh hasn't won a race over 10f and Cirrus is a 7 yr old snail (he's no snail), I still have my doubts about the two at the head of the market!!

Wrong about the first bit but correct about the 2nd Mr D. You know how it is. You have a good day then see a wild long shot in a future race. They have come off but not this time. AOB said if he didn't run in the Champion he would would run in a Listed race at Dundalk last night. I thought I would get my money back but AOB got me again.

In Brigust's world a horse could beat a Gp3 horse by 10 lengths but rated not much good because the horse he beat was only Gp3 class, what a pity the handicappers don't live in the same world, the game would be so much easier Wink

Quite wrong Figgis trying to score points to prove an unprovable point. It's beneath you. Scoff if you like but it does you no favours.
I judge a horse by what it beats not by what beats him because you have no idea how much the winner has in hand but you do know  the horses he beats are beaten.

Ah right, and that post of yours was in no way scoffing at other people's opinions in a condescending manner I suppose?

I judge a horse by what it beats not by what beats him because you have no idea how much the winner has in hand but you do know  the horses he beats are beaten.

And that post is almost child like in its naivety as far as handicapping goes.

That's what made Frankel so great - huge margins of victory in nearly all his races. No doubt brigust will be hoping Farhh and Cirrus run poorly today so he can say Frankel didn't beat much. However if one of them wins he will say they didn't beat anything. He can't lose.

You blood y snob Figgis. This is a horse racing forum. What a condescending attitude.
I was pointing out the facts AFTER your drooling over Farhh's achievements. I wasn't, like you, saying 'in your world'.

Rubbish AT. What makes you guys talk such rubbish? I have always, always, always stated Frankel was a great racehorse but it isn't my fault if the best horse he beats is a 6 year old gelding. (the Chief BHA handicappers words not mine). So stop trying to score imaginary points.

No, you were pointing out your own little personal edited versions of the facts as usual.

You really can't see how weak these races are becoming and the breed.

No, all us muppets can't see it, brigust, but it's so good of you to take your time to try to enlighten us.

I'm all for voicing criticisms about the game, there is more than enough things that piss me off, the way it's sometimes run, the way it's presented on tv, etc, but I still love the actual racing. Whereas you seem to have a major problem with the racing itself and the quality of the horses. Why do you continue to follow something that you envisage in decline? You don't appear to get any pleasure from racing or is it pleasure for you to keep banging on about today's horses being far worse than the old days?
By:
brigust1
When: 19 Oct 13 12:40
If you think I am alone about the decline in British and US racing you obviously don't read the papers.
The fact that my views differ from yours is the problem. I get a great deal of fun from racing thank you very much but burying my head in the sand as if nothing is happening is something I am not about to do and I am far from alone.
Do you seriously think the handicappers do not assess a horse by what it beats? Do you?
I know Timeform are over rating everything to maintain their position but their decline is continual and it will remain to be so because you can only fool some of the people some of the time.

The 'muppets' word was yours, it certainly was not mine. But if you think someone questioning your opinion is not negotiable I will refrain from commenting on your threads.  You only have to say.

I've no problem at all with anybody disagreeing with my views, giving their own opinion on the probable outcome of a race, saying what they see as value, etc, that's what I assume a thread entitled 'Champion Stakes' is all about. However, I do have a problem with somebody offering hardly any worthwhile opinion on the outcome of a race while hijacking threads all over the place to preach their own gospel.

You have really excelled yourself on this thread Brigust. Not only have you aftertimed some ante-post prices on the front two favourites you are now saying you have backed 5 horses in total as savers. Fcuking shocking stuff.

breadand butter came in with a nice after time too and thought Frankel was a 3yo when he won the race. Geez we have some shrewdies on here.

I had one my biggest ever e/w bets on Farhh at 5/1 in the Lockinge, and I have similar views for today's race. Looks an e/w bet to nothing although I won't be going as big a stake this time. Despite his great record fresh, long layoffs are always a worry for me.
By:

When: 19 Oct 13 12:57
Thank you Sin. I totally agree and confessed to it, shocking stuff. And I can assure you it's the first and last time I answer a question about my bets.It was a moment of weakness and it's no loss to me.

And let us not forget it was you Figgis who started with 'In Brigust's world'.
You could quite easily and in a grown up way countered the points I raised as should be on a racing forum and exactly what I was doing with reference to Farhh. That is what the points were there for.
But because I think the points I raised are in the REAL world that probably answers any questions you have. And your only answer is to insult the poster. That says more about you than me Figgis. And it's sad.
After all in Figgis's world Farhh's Lockinge win was the best win by a racehorse this season. Agenda? No way.
By:
MrDinos
When: 19 Oct 13 13:05
Farhh's record fresh is very good but all his wins have been at 8f after a long break. They ain't going to muck about in this race IMO and I think the ground (he's bred for it), plus the trip might find him out (stamina). If he was running in the QEII instead I would have been a backer because the way that race looks likely to be run would have suited him perfectly.

Figgis

I question anyone's logic and sanity when they rate Farhh's Lockinge success as the best win of the season. Put the medicine away ffs.

i am in agreement with Mr D,if dawn approach was under a different banner,i believe he goes for the QEII,thats not to say he wont run a race, just feel over ten he may come up short, but its what the game is about differing views, but keep it nice lads.lol

Pricewise made a strong case for Morandi in todays  RP ,   if CDA does not perform  , would be a serious danger  to all today  ,  though I have great respect for Farhh as a miler,   to my mind he stays  ten furlongs  more  bravely rather than convincingly , if they go a crawl  he has chances  imo

platini, what worries you about the layoff for Farhh today compared to the Lockinge, which was longer?
