Have watched the race 7 times. Then watched THE race twice, and few of Kauto races just to stop me thinking Sprinter is better.
...I still think he's better. Sprinter Sacre is just... We need to think of new words. |

Not saying he's ever gonna run in a race that is this
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HkZIUiasUqs That's the greatest race ever run. Can't see that ever changing. BUT, he's Sprinters so good he's just... I think we'll be back in 12 months time saying he's better than Arkle. |

I'd run him in the Grand Annual off 180 something and watch him sluice up

yes handicaps to reveal the true extent of superiority! trouble is most of the rivals would be so far out of the handicap it wouldn't be representative unless you could get Cue Card, SE, FR etc to run off 165 to 170. Doubt they would show up though

Its only a bit of banter CV Budd knows I am only messing. Had long debates with him about the Arkle all last season. Achievements wise & longevity etc of course Kauto is miles ahead of anything in recent years. On pure natural ability and raw talent I honestly don't think you will see a better 2 mile chaser than Sprinter Sacre though. Obviously I'm a huge fan of Master Minded & Moscow before him but SS is on a whole different level. He'd beat anything over 2. The 2nd season chasers are a quality bunch but he's head & shoulders above the lot.

well,i had a few drinks last night,i have no crash helmet and no body armour,so if you can find it in your hearts to be gentle with me,i would much appreciate it.
what can i say? i had no winners at the course, and only a 14yr old at Aintree(well i have to back him)stopped a disastrous punting day. but i came home with a big smile on my face having witnessed something i will never forget. the race was as i expected in the way it went off,no excuses for any horse which we wanted, and i even managed a "come on ruby" as they jumped the first of the 7 in the back straight. After the railway fences,it was "oh well i got that wrong",this is now what i did not expect, but i was not surprised at the same time,if you see what i mean. i simply thought Sanctuaire could give SS a real race round Sandown and maybe beat him.......,blimey, i was way out in my estimation of him,and i should apologise to Sprinter Sacre for thinking it!! i was there when Sizing Europe won last year, and i felt mighty priveleged to have seen him,i felt the same yesterday. I got some nice photos in the parade ring, the paddock, and a good one of Sanct jumping the ditch in front of the stands first time.i missed SS jumping the last which p!ssed me off, but, thanks to BG,i got a real good photo when he bought SS in front of us after the race. i dont know how good Sprinter will be in relation to the past greats, but i do know hes special, and we should enjoy him for as long as it lasts-hopefully a good few years!!! All those on here i debated with,i have humble pie for breakfast, and lunch and probably dinner as well!! And im glad you were right about SS,but disappointed i was wrong about Sanctuaire. Oh and CV.............thanks for tipping me Sam Winner!! ![]() ![]() |

Fair play budd. Glad you had a good day out. The future will tell us how good this horse really is but I believe you have witnessed an 'I was there' moment. We are very lucky to have him so soon after Kauto departing the scene.

Being right, then having the grace to sit back, is a sure sign of the measure of a man. There is no need to keep saying "I told you so!" My earlier comments re SS were thankfully proved right. Alternatives to me did not seem to be possible, but nevertheless viable arguments all the same. In the end we were treated to an incredible display from probably the most exciting chaser we have seen in years. I am not in a minority however when putting forward my earlier comments regarding the outcome. I am however, as stated, looking forward to hearing the thoughts of Budd, irrespective of what others may think. He put up a reasoned argument, and because he was there when it happened I would like to hear what his thought are. He expected it to be a clash. I doubt any of us really thought it would be SUCH a demolition irrespective of our earlier responses.
Just to add, this is not meant for you MM! |

I was lucky enough to be there when Denman won his 2nd Hennessey, was some atmosphere with proper NH fans going nuts, yesterday was similar. |

Morning evilroy,
Hes special mate, thats my thoughts on Sprinter, wil he actually ever be off the bridle?? im also thinking if ive ever called a race so wrong before!! Although i always knew it was possible SS could do that,I really thought Sanctuaire could give him a serious race.......oh well!! enjoyed the discussions though, and no doubt, knowing me,there will be more to come !! |
|

It's great to see a dominant horse, but I do find my self hankering back to the days of titanic battles between the likes of Viking Flagship, Deep Sensation, Martha's Son etc in the 2 mile division.
|
|
By:
good on you Budd! would love to see those photos if you can work out how to post them up here
my only comment about the race would be for you to ask yourself what you can learn from the experience and to reflect on the process you follow to come to a betting decision as JOCI says the horse is dominant and it really looks like there is little competition for him |
|
By:
cheers Judo,
To be honest mate,i dont see me changing much as re betting,im a live or die by my impression of a horse type person, and take it on the chin win or lose.Plus im not a big hitter by any means, and really the sport is more of a hobby for me than a profit making thing, which i guess people might have noticed with my style of posts. I may take others opinions a bit more seriously though!! |

they say the the BEAST FROM THE EAST is due to arrive this week ! i think we may have saw it yesterday at sandown !

You're lucky to have seen that performance bud
"Well Well, what kind of ridiculous unspeakable monster is this" Love that line. Sprinter is from another planet and they need to think about next years King George. |
|
By:
It's very much a similar scenario to frankel isn't it with the prospect facing us all of him beating up ever diminishing fields, year on year and in that respect there will be a big risk that he might not reach his true position in racing folklore.
He is such a very special horse that he surely deserves long term to be given the chance to stretch out over 3 miles in order to really stamp his true greatness, I think that if he stayed over 2 forever, some time down the line there will the odd huff and puff of what's he beating, nothing is turning up blah, blah, blah (as strange as it may seem). He is just too good to noteven explore the possibility. |

Sorry about Sam winner bud
horse drifted like a barge. Roi Du Mee at Navan was our forum charge, never told you though. you should pop over a load of us on there now. I'll pm you the link. |

I can't quite work out the form myself, I get the feeling Sanctuaire is still a rogue and the form must of been overrated last season. Personally I want to see SS race Sizing Europe over 2 miles, as he's been so consistant at that trip in recent years and I think that would give us a true idea of how good SS is.

there is every prospect that Sprinter will run in the Melling Chase at Aintree (unless the yard have that earmarked for another) which would see him trying 2 mile 4 furlongs. If he won there that would open the prospect of stepping up later in his career - 2014 KG or even 2013 if they felt like it

yep,very lucky mate.
Last year i was at the paddock when Al Ferof walked in(we all know what i think of him)took a few photos, looked ok,nothing special. A little while later Sizing Europe walked in,blimey what a difference, absolute classic looking horse and you just knew you were looking at something special.Yeh,of course AF was a novice, and SE a proper established champion, but nevertheless such a difference. Yesterday in the pre parade ring i got my first look at Sprinter Sacre walking-i had seen him in his box at his home on the open day-but seeing him walking round he just has such presence, and you get the feeling he just knows how good he is.He gave mt the same feeling as i had when i saw SE last year. Yes lucky alright, seeing these horses close up,cannot beat it. |

will see what i can do with the photos judo, aint got a clue how to do it though!!

I saw sprinter win the Arkle. Was stunning looking horse. Looks like he knows he is not from this world.
I cannot see how he won't get 3 miles easily. He's cantered home yesterday on soft ground after a suicide pace was set. He was 6 seconds faster than Captain Conan. It reminded me of Kautos 2009 King George where Nacarat went a suicide pace which only Kauto could live with and it let Kauto show the true depth of his quality when cantering home. I hope they do step him up in trip next season. He could be anything if he gets 3 miles. Maybe bag a couple of Champion Chases at 7/8 and then go for a couple of Gold Cups when he's 9/10. With a hat trick of King Georges inbetween and another Tingle Creek. |
|
By:
His win was very similar to Kauto's 2nd tingle creek, Would like to know how King rates Kumbeshwar to Voy Por.

Suspect this is just me being fanciful but maybe he makes his rivals underperform. |

horses with enormous levels of ability and superiority are often capable of much more than people give them credit for. There regular posts on the main forum saying Frankel was a 'pure miler' and that he should be campaigned only at that distance for fear of not staying. Well few would doubt his staying ability and I personally think he could win any race up to a mile and a half and that's because of his enormous natural ability. It make some time but I would imagine Sprinter Sacre will prove top class at any distance for exactly the same reason yet already there are the usual 'he's a two miler, don't try anything else' posts on the various SS threads. Sheesh, he is only 6yo and just had his first start out of novice company, no need to pigeon hole him now - he literally could be anything

Fair play Budd, nice to see such humility and a long-time good egg of the forum imo. Would also love to see your photos, if you sign up to photobucket or imageshack you can upload them and then put the link on here. Obviously though it's a bit of a faff so if you can't be arsed it's all good!
That was stunning stuff yesterday and having gone to the Tingle Creek meeting for the last 5-6 years it was gutting to miss yesterday. People can crab him with "well what does he find off the bridle?" all they like but I'm not sure he'll ever face a horse who makes that question become a reality. |
