I'm sorry to say I told you so but...I told you so. You can now see why I laughed at the even possibility that Sanctuaire would even get within a street of Sprinter.
He is quite simply the most exciting horse I've ever seen. I think he's the best horse I've ever seen. |
By:
vinnie makes a fair point. Sanctuaire was obviously very flattered by his victory in the Celebration Chase. However, the monster has still won in a hack canter on ground that would not have suited. Smallest 2013 Champion Chase field in living memory?

By:
Sprinter
Santuaire possibly Sizing Europe couple of rags that'll be it imo - Finian's in the Ryanair or Gold Cup by all accounts (although he shold be allowed to defend his crown imo) |
By:
Sanctuaire might have been flattered by his win last time, or he has just run 24lbs below that run. He clearly didn't stay the trip today.
By:
I think he could have finished second if he had been ridden for that position. They went for it in the hope that they could win....he was legless jumping the last 2 fences.
By:
Everyone needs to calm down. The 2nd horse is only rated 143.
Was rated 143, he'll get a big rise after beating Sanctuaire. |
By:
vinnie, Sanctuaire was very flattered in the Celebration Chase
Never as good as his rating suggested |
By:
Jacob rode the horse the same way, in his last start.I wouldn't be surprised if he has picked up a minor injury.
By:
AWESOME Can't pick any holes in that performance

nope !

Enjoy budd, I was this close | | to going. But having been to Newbury last weekend and a need to get my christmas shopping done. I shall miss Sprinters facile win and Kumbeshwars decent 2nd place.

I look forward to which horse Budd selects next to try and get Sprinter beat. Maybe Kumbeshwar if it didn't get the run of the race or made a race-ending error

Not only will Sprinter win. But I can't see he coming off the bridle. Geraghty will do his usual look around as Sprinter jumps the last. He will stop to write an update to his blog, also send a few tweets. Then they'll come home at a common canter backwards across the line. Word for word that's what happened isn't it ![]() |
By:
Another slice of toast Mr Geraghty?

budd will know that it will be a long time before aything can challenge that over 2 miles ,he will agree that we have seen a monster......he knows his onions !

By:
Just going to settle down and watch a recording of the race - not seen it yet.
By:
the only negative is that the q.m champion chase is a formality !
By:
could the Melling Chase, grade 1 2 miles 4 furlongs at Aintree be on his radar or will they go Punchestown instead?
By:
JR - that seems to be the normal route for 2M chasers over the last 20 years...I'd be disappointed if he didn't go for it!
By:
They'll put him away after the Champion Chase, they'll want to keep him sound and try get him still racing when he's 11yo like Moscow.
By:
well if he wins the QMCC on the bridle and has barely had a race all season, why would you put him away when he is at his peak? He will be 7yo in 2013 and who knows if he will regress in 2014? That is entirely feasible. Otherwise what's he going to have, 3 runs a season? What a waste that would be! If he won the Melling doing handsprings that would also open up the option of the king George
By:
He wasn't stopping by any means, after a fast pace set by Sanctuaire (which eventually killed him) and in soft ground. I'd have thought that next term, a crack at the King George would be eminently possible, given he'd be travelling at a notch slower than he's used to in the 2m chases.
By:
Foyle! Im looking forward to Budd logging on here . Not for anything other than to gauge his reaction having been there. This is one hell of a chaser.

Al Ferof is going to dodge his programme over the rest of the season to compete in the Champion Chase in March. Asked about this change of plan PFN said 'but for that race ending error, we would only have been beaten about 10 lengths. I'm confident we can get this doen to 6 come March, as long as Geraghty keeps hold of the monster' ![]() |
By:
JOCI he'd win a King George no bother, he's only getting going after 2 miles.
RUK commentary post race - "Well Well Well, what kind of ridiculous unspeakable monster is this" |
By:
i dont think there is anything out there over 2 miles to give him a race , so he wont be a betting proposition at his odds all season unless you have mega money ! on the day in the champ chase hes gonna be 2/5 at best ,whos gonna turn up ! big field for the ryanaire avoiding him , and 3-5 runners for the champion .

Could be Kinkeel's biggest paycheck!
By:
What, zero
Gets nowt for 7th. |
By:
Not if there are only 3 runners!

at least we can all go to the guinness village now come the queen mum. He was impressive I must say. Don't think he'll ever achieve what Kauto's done though.
By:
Who know Brooks, I think he is physically more talented than Kauto. But Kauto had stunning longevity, unbreakable will and importantly, top class rivals.
Personally, I think Sprinter isn't a 2 miler. Crazy as that sounds, he is just getting going after 2 miles. He need a break neck pace over 3m round Kempton. I've never seen anything as brilliant as Sprinter Sacre. Never in my life. I now now what my father meant when he talked about Arkle. Can't wait to see him at Cheltenham. Will go to Ascot too. |
By:
Budd, will point out that he didn't actually tip up sanctuaire, he merely refused to rule a win for him out, which isn't tipping him but would enable him to claim he'd been proven right if he'd beaten SS, a master politician is our budd

Don't we all do that to a certain extent?
I asked a question on the Durkan thread about Rubi Light's prospects tomorrow, pointing out just what he's got going for him. I won't be backing him though (maybe I/R at a bigger price) and I wouldn't claim to have tipped it - I haven't, but the conversation at that stage was JUST about the two big guns! I'd NEVER crow about that sort of situation (if it comes off) as I was just trying to get others' views about what I see as something relatively unconsidered having a valid chance. Flemenstar's jumping seems to be spot-on so I don't see Ruby Light as a tasty ENOUGH price - the experienced fencer is often a worthwhile angle to take when second season novices start meeting more fluent opposition...alas (for betting purposes) I don't see too many flaws in Flemenstar's jumping. Besides...I couldn't see Quito De La Roque losing today and he was beaten fair & square ![]() |

Who knows cv, who knows, I suppose time will tell.
By:
Best horse you will see over fences simple as that.
![]() Poor Budd he will be taking on Sprinter next year with Hinterland no doubt. |
By:
I want to see him win 2 Tingle Creeks 5 King Georges 2 Gold Cups first Masterminded.

Speaks volumes of this place when people are waiting for budd to post a comment just for getting a horse wrong.
I've got so many wrong it'd take 2 days to list the wrongness. It's racing we get it wrong most of the time. Some of us have the balls to speak our mind and not worry about being wrong. Instead of just not giving an opinion. Sure Far From Trouble lost a testicle due to Tidal Bay. Not that he had more than one to begin with ![]() Anyway budd, you now know what I meant. |
By:
We also need to mention how Sprinter is the most gorgeous horse you'll ever see. He is the super race in ever way.
