Whilst I agree on the point that BB will be in almost all the lists, I think the cover for Big Bucks could still be significant. There's 100 points available for a horse to run the Cheltenham race end January, World Hurdle, and the 3M at Aintree, as Big Bucks did last year. I don't think having Oscar Whisky will have an impact, as many at the top will have him as well,  and he has a decent shot at 100 points anyway based on plans communicated by connections (Welsh Champion Hurdle, Aintree 2 1/2 miler, and then likely one of Cheltenham NYD/ Fontwell).  But any other horse doing the World Hurdle/Aintree Double could make a major difference...time will tell.

Barry, Nicky and Mr Bartlett have been on the phone for over an hour. They waited until after the International hurdle to finalise a decision on whether to send Simonsig over the bigger obstacles. They all think he can win the Champion hurdle, they also think they could have run Big Bucks close in the World hurdle but ruled that out because so many have tried and failed. Then Grandouet's brilliant run convinces them to go ahead with the Novice chase route. Now they are dithering over the World Hurdle as an option, they know its there for the taking. Await the announcement....

Henderson? Dithering? Can't believe that! Wink

Had BB like everyone so no change, never had AF so the KG is made easier, the likely winner/winners of the world hurdle and aintree race will now be a horse/horses further down the lists that not many would have selected purely because of BB and the perceived wisdom that it would be a wasted selection and anyone who would be thinking outside the box would most likely have mimicked that throughout their list with other chancers, so the only real talking point as far as the effect on peoples lists and the leaderboard is the advantage/disadvantage of AF being out Imo.

Wow! Devastating news, esp for PN. That's going to blow a few lists out of the water, perhaps benefit a few. Was 100% BB and only decided against VLV at the close as Ire stayers seem pretty decent at the mo. Of course Grand Crus could redeem himself...

So how do those opposed to subs feel about this? I feel that the injury is a real blight and part of this comp seems to be about avoiding bad luck. I say pick 12 and let the best 10 score.

Hadn't thought about GC reverting back to hurdles, that's an interesting one.

By my reckoning there are only about 50,000 entries online and a further 10,000 in shops, the total stakes being about £300,000. Not sure if there will be any prize money for 2nd to 10th after 30% deductions as the winner has a guaranteed £250,000

260.6 for best list now. Four lists over the 245 mark.

Still plenty of ground to make up.

Nice - we're in the 800s.

King George will shake things up a bit.

Sir Des Champs or Grands Crus probably our best result, though could also cope with seeing Long Run, Cue Card, Finians Rainbow or Hunt Ball winning.

Riverside Theatre wouldn't be good.

^ maybe - not ruled in or out according to Henderson on ATR - would be refreshing if he were to do so but I wonder if he might back off that plan in the cold light of day.

Could do that, but I'd have thought they might wait til Cheltenham around New Year.

Jumped well. Need to see him do it now up against better opposition.

such a small pool of horses that score all the big points that everyone has though isn't there....miss out on one big race and although you hit the board on the majority of others, you are forever playing catch up.

A mate and I have entered 1 line each and said we'd "split any winnings" LaughLaugh
For one moment today I dared to dream, as my line hit 54th with Grand Crus running for me in the King George - sadly we all know how that ended, and 40 minutes later I'd dropped 400 places....Sad

Think I'll count that as having my moment in the sun....
fwiw, currently sitting in 455 with 312.8 points

Have discovered today that my top list is a repeated list.  The numbers are consecutive, so have basically managed to add one to the entry name and re-enter the same list.  My hatred of the new convoluted entry process has just increased.

Will be comical if they end up 3rd and 4th.  Going to look a right goon, a winning goon, but a goon nonetheless.

Ah - a mini competition for which, no doubt, you have to pay extra. If nobody entered these mini competitions, then perhaps we might get the monthly prizes back. I will certainly not be entering them and if they continue to **** up the TTF competition, I will not be entering it any more either.

The TTF was a brilliant concept and after years of success, it looks as if F Done will destroy it as he seems to be doing with other aspects of the Tote.

Have to agree 100% with Clerkmore.  As the current TTF monthly leader with 318 pts and Flemenstar to come I feel sick as parrot re new formatCry. First time in TTF history no monthly prizes- sod's law! The constant rule changes are killing the competition.

I think they should totally revamp it, i'd like to see categories, with only a couple horses selected from each to force a much wider of selections to be used, they attempted that with the tote return being taken into consideration thinking that people were going to try and find big price winners in handicaps, but was never going to work

I also think it would be interesting to open it up to all NH races with all horses involved, so those horses that run every other week could come into play and it would be fun to try and find those novices that run up sequences....at the moment we all know the 20 or so horses that will score all the points and it's pot luck to hit the right combo, that's it.

I must say that most of the fun seems to occur before the competition starts with researching horses and forming a selection strategy (and at least the research can be made to pay elsewhere). Once underway hope can fade quickly into disappointment and frustration, which is a bit of a problem for a competition that lasts for the best part of five months. As your mistakes and false assumptions are realised they tend to stay that way. There is no more interaction now that monthly prizes (but oddly not monthly scores, as has been pointed out!) and subs have been binned. Even the minor pleasure of voyeurism has vanished as the leaders' entries are kept secret. Hard to imagine how popular this competition was a few years ago.

As has been pointed out, it all revolves around guessing which nine or ten of the twenty or so most obvious selections are going to walk away with the bonus races. That partly might be down to the success of a few high profile trainers, but it is a problem with the concept of TTF. I would get rid of the bonus system as it distorts the value of too few races in a racing calendar of plenty. Some sort of choice limit should be introduced too, either similar to stable stars where there are four pools of horses based on their prospects, or some sort of value system based on say OR or RPR. There needs to be a way to overcome injuries too.

As for me, I seem to be in an Eric Morecambe situation of having the right horses, but not necessarily in the right list. Of the three entries I threw into the mini league, I at least have some hope with a list ranked 97th (how clarity arrives too late). I suspect that when the flat rubbish starts I will be saying farewell to the TTF (after 17 years and one shared monthly prize for my efforts - which as I write that it feels like another nail in the coffin).

Rant over.

Happy New Year folks...

I e-mailed them last night to ask about showing the leaders selections and to be fair they got back to me very quickly and said they were going to show them early next year, I think it is some technical problem they are attributing it to rather than a conscious decision to hide them.

Todays result had to favour the chasing pack. Now todays protaganists will all go seperate ways and tot up points. Thought Flemenstar should have either gone on five out and got them at it sooner, or held on until half way up the run in before letting loose. Sir Dessy had an appalling round of jumping and finished best of all, better ground and an extra two furlongs should be right up his street. The overall form boosted that of Bobsworth and its getting very interesting.
