been thinking about how the race will be run and think long run may try and force the pace and try and make it as strong a stamina test as possible ,problem for him is i dont think he will get a soft lead and his jumping will be tested more than ever and as he is prone to hitting one or 2 it will be tough for him and his jockey but who knows it might be the key to him .
expect cue card to be up with the pace and his cruising speed and jumping will put pressure on others trying to jump out of soft ground .finians if he runs could also be prominent and he is stoutly bred so i dont think the trip will be a problem, but the going might, if its too soft i cant see him running riverside theatre is best fresh and there has been money for him but he had a gruelling race in the ryanair and he didnt seem to fully get the trip when 3rd behind long run and kauto a few years back so he will do well to win in the expected ground .
the fly in the ointment is sir des champs if he comes over he is unexposed and classy  jumps well and should have no problem with the ground and  trip and he will be a threat to all and my idea of the value .
kauto stone has form in the soft has won at the trip and could well run a huge race and should not be overlooked .

I hope I'm wrong about this, but I don't think Waley Cohen will make the running on LR. If they were ever going to make it, then last time out in that crawl at Haydock was the perfect time to start. I can see Cue Card leading them around.

I will post my views on how the race might work out once I get final decs and a better idea of the going. Junior might lead for the first mile or so but he isn't really good enough to lead these for too far. I can see Long Run sitting second but maybe trying to lead it out going down the back 2nd time. Expecting Ruby and Geraghty to be holding theirs up in touch. Early fractions are going to have an impact on the outcome. If I were advising Tizzard I would just tell him to get the horse switched off and jumping well in about 3rd or 4th place and only to start challenging from about 4 fences out

I may be wrong, but isn't Junior an out and out pacesetterConfused So wouldn't he not make it in the early parts of the race, with cue card a length down, or upsides depending on how he copes being asked to settle, LR no worse than 4th/5th on first circuit, can then see cue card taking it up at the same point in the race as one man did when it was run at sandown and possibly if he stays run them all ragged in behind with LR finishing 2nd once again and possibly kauto stone or tgb if he were to run a distant 3rd/4th, RT should also be in the mix for the placings.

Can't see more than 9 runners though, possibly 7 if a couple defect morning of the race!

Apart from colour, really can see a lot of similarities with cue card and one man, for some reason! Is that ludicrous or slightly accurate in your opinionsConfused

Captain Chris drifting badly on here  Any news anyone?
By:
judorick
When: 21 Dec 12 01:36
no news on Captain Chris but the latest forecast is for 13 mm of rain to fall on Kempton between now and Boxing Day with only showers expected on race day

going set to be soft
By:
buddeliea
When: 21 Dec 12 07:47
Weather warnings in the Surrey area over the weekend Judo, reckon it will be heavy on Sunday, then its a case of how much rain falls after that.
Be lucky if its soft mate imo.
By:

When: 21 Dec 12 08:31
If some of the forecasts are to be believed, they may have 13mm in about 2 hours tomorrow!

Think Ascot might struggle tomorrow and agree that unlikely to be soft, pretty sure that heavy will appear in the going on Wednesday.
By:
judorick
When: 21 Dec 12 09:06
that's not what the clerk of the course reported

he said his forecast was for 13 mm of rain in 2 BATCHES in the run up to Boxing Day and for only showers on the day

he also said they had 23 mm the other day and the course took it very well and the going was soft and as a free draining track if the forecasted rain fell then the track will cope easily and it will remain soft

there is a lot of misinformation and scaremongering going on, the going is not going to be horrendous unless unexpected levels of rainfall appear between now and raceday
By:
festivalfanatic
When: 21 Dec 12 09:47
CoC is being mischevious if he says only 13mm forecast before Wednesday. BBC and Metcheck indicate that there will be at least double that tomorrow and I fully expect Ascot's Saturday card to be abandoned if they prove correct.

Kempton does drain well and there seems a bit of respite from Monday onwards. On their biggest payday of the year though, he's hardly going to be saying 'conditions are going to be horrible', 'you might have a problem getting here', 'bring your wellies - your car will get stuck'....not good for business, is it?

And a Tube strike!
By:
buddeliea
When: 21 Dec 12 12:10
COC'S are usually optimisic about racing going ahead and with going predictions.
If you live down south not far from Surrey you know what weather weve had,and as its soft at the moment it stands to reason with the predicted rain coming over the next few days, then it will get softer.
Forecast rain on Boxing Day wont help matters either.

just drifting because of the support for sir and now grand cru. doubt nicholls will not have a runner in the race unless its injured but tbh If it was injured Nicholls would be open.

@brooksielad, thought exactly the same. Too much money on the line not to have any runner and they are pretty transparent

He was never going to go. Todays prices were about the bookies knowing he wasn't going, but making it loook as if he was being backed so that people rushed in there with money.
