Some very decent Irish novice chasers missed Cheltenham and Aintree this year so don't forget them when pricing up the KG. I would not dream of backing any horse until it had run after the summer break as so many break down in pre season training each year. I would think that Riverside Theatre had a decent chance if keeping its form.

know where you are coming from as regards n.hunt horses fragility, and would not back anything at short prices ante post but the big price factors in the risk am prepared to risk small stakes and if all goes well and the horse looks like getting to the race can always trade out at shorter ! yes a good few that i have not mentioned in the mix including some irish novices ,the older guard long run ,riverside theartre, burton port ect could be vulnerable to the younger brigade and at the prices cue card could offer some value .

cue card jt fav with hunt ball for the paddy power and main target this season is the king george according to a poster on the cheltenham forum !

Kauto Star looks the obvious bet to me for this race. If he doesn't make it, Riverside Theatre looks the best flat track chaser in the country. I respect the Irish second season chasers a great deal and I think one of them will take the Gold cup, but it's quite unusual for them to come over for the King George (making an AP play hard).
By:
i agree if kauto is still in decent form he will be aimed and trained to the minute for a glorious kg swansong and retirement.
By:
SILVINIACO CONTI i believe this will hose up
By:
i dont think silvianacco conti has the guts for a kg ,i think he is a bit soft and you will see this when he is upgraded,

cue cards 2nd btn short head by bobs worth over 2.4 miles at newbury was in hindsight a cracking effort considering cue card was giving the rsa winner 7pounds ,looking all over the winner he was in front a long time and was worn down by the winner right on the line .
his beating of for non stop over a similar distance at the same course is also reading a lot better now . imo cue cards best runs have been over distaces further than 2miles and 3miles could see more improvement. cant remember this horse running right handed ! and a flat track like kempton over 3 miles in the king george could be ideal ! still a big price in the shops ! |
By:
The Irish horses will surely stay at home over Christmas to contest the Lexus, which should be a high class affair this season.
By:
Foyles, I'd expect BobsW to improve much more for the extra half mile and also for the breathing op he had since. It was quite impressive he was able to beat Cue Card over a trip much too short for him on a track that doesn't really seem to suit (although I seem to remember it not being Tizzard's finest ride).
By:
agreed stront not joe finest hour, but going right handed and possible improvement from cue card could see a bold show in the king george ,he may prove not to stay but if he is going to get 3 miles, then kempton is the place! also his form when beating for non stop a comfortable 4 lengths over 2.4 miles giving him 7 pounds is also not looking to shoddy given that ones performance at aintree ( granted the race may have fell into his lap)for non stop now on a rating of 162, cue card 157 and surely capable of bettering that mark !
By:
That's all perfectly fair.
All I'm saying is it doesn't matter how much he improves if his opponents improve more. ![]() |
By:
I should add I think it's a good race for AP betting - I'm not keen on 5 of the first 6 in the market. The entries will be fascinating next week, especially to see what if anything might come from Ireland.
Also, my point above was probably irrelevant as BW is unlikely to run in the KG ![]() |
By:
you are right there stront , but no bobs worth to worry about this time .
By:
sorry stront didnt see your last post before i put the no bobs worth comment . got a feeling we are not going to get a big irish challenge ,can see sizing euro coming over for it tho,it could be a really strong renewal even without the irish 2nd season chasers ! i have just threw a tenner on menorah at 130 on here just in case they aim him at the kg unbeaten at kempton .
By:
No worries - Yes it could be a very good renewal. Sizing might well come over. There are so many strong Irish 2nd season chasers one or two might come over - they can't all run in the Lexus. Gigginstown alone might have 5 candidates to choose from if they're all fit by then.

am happy with that.............gentlemen, if any followed................. we are in a decent position !

By:
Sorry to bore you all to death on this but Grand Crus is the second coming and a new star will appear this Christmas at Kempton. 6/1 = Your best Xmas present ever, get it whilst you can.
By:
Regarding Grand Cru, I have this theory that he won't win another race this season.................
By:
Well there's no point in telling us you have a theory and not expounding it. You are just teasing us.

Are we in for an xmas treat??
if most of these turn up,we are!! Silviniaco Conti impressed in the Charlie Hall Chase at Wetherby, Nicholls' two other Saturday winners, Cristal Bonus and Kauto Stone, have been left in at the latest entry stage along with stablemates Al Ferof and Poquelin. Title rival Nicky Henderson has a strong team for the Boxing Day feature at Kempton headed by 2010 winner Long Run, which also includes the Cheltenham winners Riverside Theatre, Finian's Rainbow and Bobs Worth. Colin Tizzard's recent Exeter winner Cue Card, the Philip Hobbs' trio Wishfull Thinking, Menorah and Captain Chris, and Mouse Morris' First Lieutenant are other interesting entries, whilst Ireland could also rely on Willie Mullins' current Gold Cup favourite Sir Des Champs as well as Henry De Bromhead's star Sizing Europe. Other notable entries include Martin Keighley's Champion Court, Nick Williams' For Non Stop, David Pipe's Grands Crus, former Gold Cup hero Imperial Commander and last year's Cheltenham runner-up The Giant Bolster. |
By:
I didn't miss the Sun Alliance but you may have when it comes to Pipe's explanation for his poor run
By:
What a bad scope?,yeh heard that one before.
The end of the day you are choosing to ignore a bad run, fair enough you have faith in the trainers reasoning. Not something i like doing, taking too much notice of trainers excuses. Each to their own,and i hope he comes back and proves top class,at the moment he aint, but i recognise i could well be wrong. Has been known!!! |
By:
cue cards beating of micheal flips and silvinarco conte over 2.4 miles at chepstow when they were making their chasing debuts is also looking very good form now .
By:
Hope your right Foyles followed you in at 25s on Cue Card, long Run the danger imo.
By:
good luck to both of us stevo !
By:
Nice token foyles although i do wish joe hazard would restrain him a tad just to educate him to settle...next time will tell us more as he goes so well fresh but he will have to settle more imo to get the three miles round kempton...he is starting to look a real good horse however and at 25's you have a nice token...
By:
not me 25s harry ...........i am on at 110 and 100 on here a few days before i did the thread !
By:
oh lovely foyles...sleepless nights if you've got proper cash on...have no real interest in the race yet so will wish you well...lets hope tizzard reigns him in a tad next time just to to teach the horse...but he is a good un and a real plum tickler for yourself
By:
cheers harry got enough on ,but if it were to win then it will be................ should have had more on !
By:
good stuff pal...i wish you well...

Has anyone heard anything on Al Ferof ? He's not been mentioned by Nicholls. If Silviniaco isn't goiing then he will have something else, most likely Kauto Stone. It might not be far fetched to think that Al Ferof could go though. He was travelling well enough in the Arkle, and maybe he just shouldn't have went to Aintree. If excuses can be found, you could say that 3miles around Kempton could be alright for him stamina wise. He's currently around 25/1, and might be worth 2 bob if he's going. I can't see many people agreeing, but he's a horse i quite like.
By:
Nicholls said he's considering the KG for Al Ferof in Mark Howard's book. You'll find plenty of people who like Al Ferof (some more than their own children) on the Cheltenham board.
By:
You referring to me as one of those Stront??
I was certainly a fan last season, and gutted when he made that error in the Arkle. This season i am waiting to see him run before calling anything re him. Aintree was awful, and whilst i know horses do fail there after Chelt, its in the back of my mind that that mistake may have affected him,it was pretty scary for a horse. Hope hes ok though, and if he is i expect him to be campaigned between 2 and half and 3 in the good races, and hopefully will prove a threat. |

al ferof is a bit of a forgotten horse by some but if you run a line through his last 2 runs then his form, especially the win in a very strong supreme in which he beat spirit son sprinter sacre cue card and others stacks up very well ,he is not a flashy horse l.e you wont see him winning on the bridal and cruising through his races but he has proved he can do it when the chips are down and i certainly have not forgotten him and look forward to his seasonal debut .too big a price for the gold cup imo.

Yeh,his Aintree run can be ignored imo.
His Arkle run was ok though, until taking off too early and ending his race. At the time he was leading and going well, and we will never know what would have happened had he jumped that fence as well as all the other fences in his races so far. I suspect a lot of posts on here re him,Sprinter Sacre and Cue Card, would be a lot different if that had been the case. Still, this happens in horse racing and this season we will find out a lot more about the novices from last season for sure. |
