Not aftertiming when you posted your bet on the Flat Thread.
I had Nath at 33/1 for last years Arc only for them to change plans and go for the Champion Stakes. The ground had nothing to do with it. They just wanted a 10f G1 on his CV. |

PEDANTICALLY, the question should have been asked differently, NOT CAN but WILL,
CAMELOT beat this wonderful little filly? Every time the question is CAN then every time the answer is yes, but ask WILL and the answer is more likely to be different. |

Anyone know where I can find out information & running plans for the foreign (mainly French) horses?
The RP never has entries for the big European races. There have been some massive prices taken on French nags like Aesop's Fables & Saint Baudolino, and though they mightn't be deemed good enough to win the race, it's a brave man that lays such odds - as I see it, virtually ANYTHING can win this race for a variety of reasons. |

It's not much, but it took me ages to find. Last year it was handy for getting the declarations etc.
Bazz (my old mate) if we're really being pedantic I suppose DD is a mare now, is she? |
|
By:
PETE, when she reaches the age of five (5) or loses her virginity,
whichever comes first, then she becomes a mare. |
|
By:
Navel, pete is right France galop will allow you to watch videos as well.
|
|
By:
Thanks Bazz. I didn't know she was still a virgin :)
|
|
By:
You didn't know she is not yet a mare, either.
|
|
By:
Just right Bazz. You're always learning in this game. There was a big debate here last year about when a filly
becomes a mare, but I couldn't remember what was agreed. Mind you, on this site, I expect there wasn't agreement! |
|
By:
I learned that when I was about 18 from a vet and confirmed it through the
racing media, Sporting Chronicle and Handicap book, races for fillies and mares have a weight allowance usually for age, the older MARES have to give weight away, I am now 74. |
|
By:
I have been questioned once, but I think the guy lived in the Southern hemisphere,
where it is probably when in Rome, but in Britain and the rest of Europe use the system I have described, even that non European country follows OUR lead, which is very unusual, they try to dictate to us!!!!! |
|
By:
The country AMERICA.
|
|
By:
As regards age of filly to mare, there are two good examples today 28th JULY, 2.05 at YORK and 3.20 at NEWMARKET.

By:
Thanks Bazz, you're a pedagogue of distinction, Sir.

Pete - that French website is so awkward to navigate through
![]() Why is it so difficult to find entries for their big races? Is that the best the Frogs have to offer us? It's useful (though still piss poor) as information seems thin on the ground with the ATR & RP sites for French horses. There has to be more information, somewhere online ![]() |
|
By:
Navel, it seems that not everyone is interested in future competition, I
believe that it has a GREAT bearing on present day results, can sympathise with your frustration. If you happen to find a site, would you please inform us, thanks? |
|
By:
Bazzar - I've been led to believe that the likes of us on here are more interested in French racing than the French themselves!
It's highly unlikely I'll stumble across something, so I'll ask on the main forum if anyone knows of any better sites. |

A helpful forumite informed me of this site but it looks just as awkward ![]() |

By:
NG - I know how you feel. I often can't find the info I want about the British racing, though.
|
|
By:
In 1983 I worked at a place where deliveries were made from France,
obviously French drivers, my French is very limited but I knew the word for horse and although the horse I fancied was French trained and owned, it had an English name, when I told these guys I just got blank looks as if I was mad, it was ALL ALONG. So you may be right as regards interest or lack of. |
|
By:
What do you make of this Pastorius then Bazz? A contender? Are the Krauts looking for European domination?
|
|
By:
Hee hee. Krauts doesn't get starred out.
|
|
By:
PETE, I can't view, something wrong with the picture part of my computer and
cannot find a computer expert to right the wrong, so I will have to wait for RP and times in results, EASTIE is impressed, but I reserve judgement, until I have viewed for myself. When DANEDREAM won at BADEN-BADEN, this tiny horse gave a real beating to big geldings and group 1 winners on boggy going, so easily I couldn't believe how easy it was, EASTIE compares that result and todays result as equal. |
|
By:
Only read of PASTORIUS exploits and seen time for race, which is nearly
a furlong slower than racing on good ground, however he beat last years winner VERY easily but that horse beat FAMOUS NAME who falls short of group 1 status and is NOT a good trial horse!!! When I have managed to view the race I can expand on my OPINION. |
|
By:
Pastorius won the german derby at big odds from novellist, who previously was held in very high regard. Both horse challenged on the wide outside of field and the 3rd is running tomorrow in gordon stakes,so maybe we'll see him frank the form as well.
I was quite prepared to rate novellist better than pastorius as i thought it could be a one off victory{he was slaghtered in german guineas]but having seen what pastorius did last sunday to a decent field including italian derby winner and last years german derby winner waldpark i'm not so sure. Can past & novellist both be exceptional? If i had an inkling that either will line up at longchamp i'll certainly add them to my portfolio. |
|
By:
A possible guide is WALDMARK who was beaten by about 18 lengths last year by DANEDREAM,
beaten about 9 lengths by PASTORIUS. |
|
By:
Amazing value for the Arc is Princess Highway.
Yesterday The Fugue won intaking style in the Group 1 Nassau Stakes. At Royal Ascot, The Fugue was thrashed 5 lengths by Princess Highway. After the race Princess Highway's trainer said that his fill was "certainly Arc class". When Princess Highway takes the Yorkshire Oaks her targets are bound to be Prix Vermeille and Arc. Now all this is all very well if she was available at a miserly 16/1 for the Arc. But you can get over 100/1 on here. A no brainer! |
|
By:
Good luck with that! Very confident Orfevre will be bang there at the finish. Will probabley start fav or 2nd fav after winning prix foy next month

Good shout Alak, i would have to say that i would agree, i was just about to do a write up on the japanese horse.
I love the Arc so much that ive been in profit at the 2 day meeting since , so happy with my NAP of the month being danedream at 48/1. This year ive got a list of horses that expect to do well internationally this year, a few of them are from the east. If we are talking about pure ability and overall competetion in the race ...then i think Ofevre is the best horse within the decs at this moment. There is also a mare in the race which has already proven to be on par with danedream, and could even be better, trained by an english trainer too! lol, that will get you thinking everyone. but i doubt she will turn up at Longchamp. will tell everyone... but im not on yet myself ![]() |
|
By:
CoT - she's certainly one that I'd like to keep onside at a big price, as is their other filly Sapphire (just won at Cork) in the same ownership - I wonder what Autumn plans Weld has for them both? Yorkshire Oaks would seem a logical next step, and Princess Highway is amongst the entries, though I'm surprised that Sapphire isn't.
If the Arc is a possible then at the huge odds available they're worth even just a couple of quid to add to the portfolio - both look to be improving, having already shown high-class form, and maybe the Vermeilles could be on the cards? Akak - as for Orfevre...he's one hot potato I wouldn't be keen on laying as he does look a bit special, but backing at the price he is now isn't THAT appealing - there's plenty of treble-figure value to be had. |
|
By:
OG - I had a few of the Jáps on my side last year at huge prices but finding out information of their running plans is not readily available
![]() I see many are again available at massive odds so I figure someone knows far more than I do about where they're going. Is Deep Brillante gonna have another crack at Europe's best? I'd have thought the Far Eastern trainers would be very interested in coming over after the exploits of the last few years - they've acquitted themselves really well, and I'd assume Danedream's win for Germany, chips away at the perceived air of invincibility of the British & French performers. You'd think they wouldn't be scared. |
|
By:
Navel, they are not scared and trainer of ORFEVRE is to run in ARC after a trial in Sept,
they have said this about 5/6 weeks ago after last win in JAPAN. The filly is special as far as I am concerned and don't forget the owner of ORFEVRE has bought a half share in her and she will serve at the SHADAI STUD owned by Yoshuda owner of ORFEVRE and part owner of DANEDREAM. |
|
By:
Offshore, I have a fancy for estrogen.
|
|
By:
That's more info than you have been getting, isn't it Navel?
|
|
By:
I did know some of it
![]() I haven't got a clue what OG's mare is and I can't find out any info on Estrogen. |
|
By:
Try the opposite to estrogen.
