Maybe they think he is a Leger horse.

Soullimon around Epsom...dont you remember last year. Some terrible rides. Absoutely hopeless around Epsom. Big Negative.
Fallon to Sou around Epsom is chalk and cheese |
By:
He's the best around imo, and at the very least its a large signal of intent as it seems jockey bookings are sorted if they all make it on the day.
By:
Ed Dunlop suggesting today that he expects Fallon on Native Khan.
Could get political |
By:
That implies to me that at this moment in time AOB thinks Seville is his first string as he has Soumillon sorted. Obviously that could change if Seville flops tomorrow

By:
Soumi to pop him out and make all tomoz.
By:
Sounds like Fallon said he would ride Native Khan, then got offered the Recital ride, liked what he found and now wants to switch judging by his Weekender column. Considering making the trip to York tomorrow to see the Dante. Hoping for a good run from Seville, but starting to think Recital is their first Derby choice. AOB has certainly talked him up more and the booking of Fallon the other day would indicate that Recital rather than Sevile was the main hope. Hope I'm wrong though as my moneys with Seville
By:
I though Fallon said today that Seville was their main derby horse ?
By:
To be fair I didn't actually read the Weekender, I going on the Racing Post article on their website which quoted him bigging Recital up. What he said made it sound very much like this is the horse he wants to be on. Recital being their number one was just me reading into it that Fallon as the more proven jockey round Epsom would be on their first choice - I could well be wrong Graeme

By:
Kieren suggests to a bemused Jim Mcgrath today on C4 that Seville 'could' be Aidens Number 1 Derby contender then goes on to big up Recital,Fallons renowned for waffling.
By:
Fair enough Lesner & AC. I know these jockeys always hit out with a lot of old mince on a regular basis. I thought he said that they think Seville is their best 3 year old. He also got the facial expressions from McGrath after saying "you'll see tomorrow", or something to that effect. I don't have a clue myself. I think you'd need inside information on this race to have any confidence. I'll just watch.
By:
Is he a NR tomorrow? Paddys not taking bets on him...
By:
PP were laying him at 3s dante and 10s derby which was suspect. Now we know why. No doubt insult will be added to 'injury' with more excuses.
By:
That's just dodgy innit?
Sat looking at Oddschecker and there's a void of nothingness under P@ddy Power and horizontal with Seville. Greyed out on the website. No explanation, no clue. So, they're full up? And are running a book like Primary School kids Or, they know more than us and he's a non-runner. Joke really, either way. |
By:
A rep told me it's back up at 15/8. She gives me a link with the card, and it's still unbackable. Maybe it will be back up tomorrow.
By:
its on oddschecker alright now.

I was quite pleased with Seville yesterday. A slowly run 10 furlongs is the last thing he wants, and is far from what will happen at Epsom, and I think it was only his class that allowed him to come 2nd in the race.
Aidan sounded happy afterwards and said next stop the Derby, so thats good enough for me. |
By:
You didn't think he blew up?
By:
I suppose he might have done, and AOB is great at bringing them on for a run. I just thought he didnt quite have as much pace as the winner in what turned into a sprint. I reckon he has shown enough pace in his last two races tho, and coupled with his obvious stamina he must have a good chance at Epsom.
By:
Does he have obvious stamina though? I'm not convinced he saw out the Dante trip, and that was run at a crawl.
By:
behave! |
By:
Ramruma watching different game imo
By:
Yes Ramruma, he did see out the trip. He will also see out the derby trip. As it was a slowly run race it was set up for a horse with plenty of pace to win. In the derby it will be a faster run gallop, which will suit a horse like Seville who needs a stronger gallop to make full use of his stamina, against those who might have lesser stamina but more pace. If a horse has plenty of speed you would want to run all of that energy out of it before he gets the opportunity to use it. The front two in the Dante will both come on for the run, but it remains to be seen if Carlton House can cope with the pace.

By:
why didnt o'brien run a pacemaker for seville in the dante?
By:
It was only a trial i'd guess. Also he won't have been fully wound up.
By:
I guess because it was a trial after all.
By:
I think it's maybe because each horse gets educated differently. Recital had a pacemaker. They maybe just hoped for a fair gallop to give him more room to come on for the next race.
By:
I think O'Brien uses the Dante as a tester for seeing what he's up against, and as such never sends his no. 1 Derby horse there.
Hence, no pacemaker. |
By:
You could have a point Jair. It doesn't answer the question about having no pacemaker though. Surely if he wanted to know the strength of opposition he'd throw in a pacemaker. Would he bring Soumillon over just to pilot a horse that's just testing the waters ?
By:
yeh fair point jair, he doesnt often run more than 1 in the dante.
By:
Fallon was saying Ivan Denisovic could be their best the Guineas the year George Washington won ... a salt of pinch with take says anything he.
By:
Jair, from all Ive heard and seen etc, I do think Seville is their number 1. Although I am slightly biased.
By:
Worrying vibes coming out today?
'Hold all bets' says O'Brien... Makes it interesting that he brought Soumillon over. Is it not possible that he's using the 1m2f Dante as a trial for the Prix de Jockey Club now, after all that's exactly what he did last year. Soumillon was on a 16/1 shot last year too so may fancy a horse with a chance now he's not on the Aga's horses. Food for thought |
By:
I don't want to be left with egg on my face, but I think this story doesnt apply to Seville, just that the final team hasnt been sorted. He said after the Dante he was very happy with the run and next stop Epsom, and there's no way Seville will be run over 10f instead of the derby, so I think his quotes are more to do with which others will line up.
By:
Maybe...
But in a season where O'Brien has said pretty much fk all to the media and has made precicely ZERO statements from off track, surely this is a worry. I'm thinking they've had the Coolmore sit-down in the wake of the trials and some difficult calls are being made. It's got to be possible that Pour Moi is coming over but in the place of either Seville (I reckon) or Recital (I don't reckon). |
By:
Im actually thinking they may send Recital to France as he appears to have a turn of foot which Seville does not.
By:
i.e Recital could win over 10f, Seville cannot, not in G1 company.
By:
I'm not having that Sint but where Coolmore are concerned nothing surprises!
By:
They having being trying to sell Montjeu's speed for ages.
St Nick the glaring example. Recital to France and then to the July Cup... |
By:
recital very weak on here at the moment
