Peddlars does not go this wkend due to a cough while Binocular should win at Sandown which should tighten things at the top of the Overall Leaderboard once again. Anyone know what Binoculars race is worth to the winner?
Also anyone know if Reve de Sivola is a likely runner this weekend? I see he is entered in the Novice Chase on the same card but I was under the impression that he had been 'put way'? |

A bit of loose change for Binocular.

No meeting at Leopardstown today.
I wonder if they'll just not bother if they can't run it soon. It could end up too close to the festival. |
By:
That wouldn't be a bad thing for us, as our leading couple of lists didn't have a runner in the Irish Hennessy.

Nor me JOCI.
Pandorama is in what looks like my best list now. But that post is only me wondering. |

Seems they will try next Saturday.

best list 396 pts and 77th..can go much higher as those above have same nags..any advice on how subs can be used to best effect..any reasonable advice will be taken on board
By:
To win, you'll need to make subs that differentiate you from those above, so maybe looking slightly beyond the obvious selections for races like the RSA Chase and Arkle might pay off if you can pick one or more of the winners. Horses likely to double up at Cheltenham / Aintree should be considered.
By:
Thanks JOCI..We are in similar situations in the competition.May just go for it and put in some real curved balls

I'm gonna have to be pretty creative with my subs.

I think to have any chance you need to sub in two 50 point horses. Albertas Run was a great pick last year winning the Ryannair and then at Aint. I don't have an RSA or Arkle runner, so I'll probably target these or possibly the GN. I have all the other bonus races coverd at Chelts so I'll just have to hope for the best with them.

The outright leader has Cooldine, Finians Rainbow and Peddlars Cross on his list. If they all win at the wkend it's game over surely
By:
Not so sure Mr M,he could certainly gain a big lead but he hasn't got Imp Com,TFR,Binocular,Menorah,Poquelin,Big Zeb or Medermit, thats seven Cheltenham 50 pointers all priced at 6/1 or less. There is also Grand Crus that could scupper Big Bucks chances and a whole host of other horses priced in single figures for the Bonus races

Hope your right Rob, as I have a list hovering just outside the top 10[:x][smiley:crazy]

There are bound to be a few more shocks around the corner.
By:
If the outright leader has Cooldine then he's down to 9 horses for a start!
Soldatino is in my best current list, a win tomorrow may put me in the mix! |

Punchestowns on Friday and Kempes today wasn't a bad combo for us, and takes a list on to 397.
By:
Actually make that 393 after a desultory T0te payout of £2.90 (at 5/1 SP).

Kempes propelled a list into 2nd
missed out on WAF running in the Aon (but hey, nasty thing happened at NBY) going to stand in the rain at a point tomorrow to cheer myself up ![]() |
By:
Nice one REM ! Kempes was the only 'non bad' result from that event for me.
The same list also has Weird Al, who I notice is currently 12/1 for the Racing Post Chase. That could be crucial to our chances. |

ACHIEVED Top 50 ambition..now in 35th with 411 pts..think that is as good as it gets!!!!!
By:
Well done Alderbrook 50/1 too! Joint 99th for our best list, so hope yet!
By:
Thanks Joci..same to you I will spend the next week trying to come up with some off the wall selections.

The subs are gonna be hard.
I gotta unearth something a bit special. |

Some good scores chaps. I'm hot on your heels, but hope is in the subs for me. Just wished I'd been a bit braver.
Just got back from an eight race point at Milborne St Andrew. Horizontal rain all afternoon and had to have the car pushed out of the mud (it was like a land rover advert, but without the land rover). Wonderful too see some old favourites, including a former TTF performer Thisthatandtother at the grand old age of 15. Discovered which of my clothes are actually waterprrof (answer: not many). ![]() |

Substitutions
Unless you are in the top, what 200-300 you're probably not going to win the overall competition now, bar some freak results at Aintree and Cheltenham. So in terms of the substitutes, is it better trying to win the Cheltenham competion? Okay it's a huge ask but presumably any lists have been constructed along the lines of trying to find the best beasts in the various championship categories, plus the winner of the Paddy Power and Hennessy, given you know the betting / entries for these two bonus point races when the competion starts. Therefore, it's afe to assume most lists have got the same horses in, therefore what you need regarding the subs is a differentiator. I reckon a lot of subs will feature Poquelin, who, pre-competion, wouldn't have been on many lists but now he's favourite for the RyanAir (a bonus race). Do you go with him or something more left-field? For me, it has to be the latter - rather be spectacularly right or wrong. I'm thinking Albertas Run given his good / ground Cheltenham record and hope he does the business again at both the Festival (and Aintree). Maybe a handicapper like Sunnyhill Boy to sneak a win in the Wm Hill Chase say? Basically, something different and 'against the crowd'. |
By:
You're right in that any lists not in the top few hundred can forget the overall prize (unless they fuind a decent priced winner of the Racing Post Chase), so should focus their attention on the cheltenham prize. That's what we'll be doing with all but 3 of our lists.
The 'obvious' can still get you the Cheltenham prize, but I get the feeling it might take something out of the ordinary to win it, e.g. a decent priced winner of one of the handicaps, combined with the usual suspects. One horse I'm considering adding to many of our lists is Quevega, who for me is nailed on for the Mares Hurdle and 20 points. |
By:
For those of us still deluding ourselves with dreams the outright win can anyone say at this stage what horses are most likely to run well(ie, win) at Cheltenham and then be pretty much guaranteed to run at Aintree?
By:
guys is there anywhere where you can see the early entries for AINTREE....not just the National
By:
Golden Silver entered at Naas on the weekend. Not a definite runner, but would surely have the race at its mercy if going for it, and would be a nice pre-Cheltenham boost.
By:
I think the GN is the only AIN race that's has early entries. Best look for trainers comments, but not many are thinking beyond the festival at the mo.
By:
Thanks REM..you are right only the National is an early closer...the rest of the Grade 1 races canbe entered up to the week before the race..checked this out with Weatherbys who were very helpful..inspired choice with Kempes by the way
By:
![]() Oh, I just realsied. No - a list went into 2nd with kempes - not one of mine. Sloppy phrasing. I'm still sitting on two zeros and needing two good subs. |
By:
What A Friend tomorrow, and possibly more importantly, Golden Silver going for us on Sunday.
By:
Just watched the Tied Cottage Chase which Golden Silver won last time out, and he did very well to win the race, after not jumping three out at all well, and being left behind by the three in front, Scotsirish, Sizing Europe and Big Zeb. After looking beaten, he flew between the last two, collared Big Zeb just after the last and ran on strongly. My concern is that soft ground might bring out the best in him though, and perhaps the Ryanair at the festival might be a more suitable target than the QM.

GS is starting to hurt me. Toss up with him and BZ. Expected BZ to get the better of GS, but GS to run ore often in Ire. No reason to expect GS to excel at Chelts, but WM's horses really flying at the mo.
WAF is one of my zeros (despite being permed) and he holds entries in the RP chase and the GN. In a dream of mine he wins them all. |
