It is because of the possible ground. Finally the market has woken up to the fact she has no good or good-to-firm form to speak off.
That's not to say she wont handle it, but if it comes up GF dont be surprised if Stoutey pulls her out.imo. |

Sir Michael Stoute is hardly pushing the panic button ahead of Havant's Qipco 1000 Guineas bid but the trainer emphasised the need for rain in Newmarket over the next 10 days.
Havant was unbeaten in two starts last season at her home track - a maiden on the July Course and a Group Three on the Rowley Mile - and appeared in fine fettle on the Warren Hill gallops on Thursday morning. "She is starting to come, but this freak dry weather we've been having hasn't helped," he admitted "She doesn't want the ground too quick. They can water it, but they can't get it perfect and we need some rain. "Her form was on ground on the softer side of good, so it is a bit of a worry but I don't want to be too dramatic - we're not there yet and we'll see what conditions are like on the day. "I'd like to get her out on the Watered Gallop at the weekend. "On two-year-old form she was very smart so we'll see how she progresses from two to three. I've taken a similar path to Musical Bliss (his other Guineas winner in 1989) with her, although she was a miler and I hope this one goes further." Stoute has a second challenger a week on Sunday in the shape of Cape Dollar. The Saeed Suhail-owned daughter of Cape Cross rounded off her juvenile campaign with success in the Group Two Rockfel Stakes, but was only seventh of 14 on her reappearance in the Fred Darling at Newbury last weekend. Stoute said: "She was drawn very badly at Newbury and seven furlongs was short enough for her as she wants a mile at least. "I'd say she was entitled to be there on her two-year-old form and she will come on for Newbury." It appears almost certain Sharnberry will head for the French 1000 Guineas rather than be supplemented for the Newmarket version. Trainer Ed Dunlop had been toying with the idea of adding his filly to the field for the Rowley Mile after her promising second to Rimth in last weekend's Fred Darling at Newbury, but the weather forecast is against him. "If it started to rain very heavily we can still supplement her but she doesn't want the ground too firm," he said. "She is in the French Guineas and she can go there instead. I wish I had entered her for Newmarket, but there are a lot of entries in the 1000 Guineas at the moment and I would be supplementing what would probably be a 16-1 or 20-1 shot. "She has come on for the run and we do think a lot of her. She had a lot of issues at the back-end of her two-year-old career but thankfully not this spring." |

Strong signs for me from Stoutey that indicate re excuses they are laying the ground work for pulling Havant out of the Guineas for an Oaks campaign. I dont think the ground will be the real reason have my own theories on that and have laid half my stake off her the Guineas. The half stake loss will easily be recouped by reduction in price of my 2 others in the race one of which was a much bigger bet. also have Havant the Oaks and can see her running a massive race in that.
Let's see if I am right. |

When: 21 Apr 11 18:01 Come on people obvious this fk sake get the l-plates on. It was so obvious that you went in on Havant after her price had collapsed a month or so back - don't know about the l-plates, think you need to do the theroy test again![]() Oh and isn't laying off all or part of your stake called an 'arb' Eric - thought that was only for idiots like me . And what does the reduction in price of the other two (Moonlight Cloud and ?????) have to do with anything unless your intending to lay those off as well.![]() |

eric, you got your money on misty for me yet??

No I wont be taking her. My Guineas books are structured differently this year due to my view the 2000 would cut up badly and the 1000 wouldnt so could be affected by the stupid draw bias.

Intriguingly Nova Hawk does not seem to appear in the entries for the Prix de la Grotte on Sunday...with a list of winners including Zarkava and Divine Proportions, it's worth a look.
Here's what does: 1 ALBARAAH I F. HEAD 2 doo lang JC. ROUGET 3 mixed intention F. VERMEULEN 4 GOLDEN LILAC A. FABRE 5 espirita E. LELLOUCHE 6 salona JP. CARVALHO 7 glorious sight R. COLLET 8 whip and win R. COLLET |

Nova Hawk's defection from the Prix de la Grotte suggests that she is now likely to come over to Newmarket for the Guineas rather than stay at home for the Pouliches. I know that Mordin likes her chances, but her last three races (all Listed contests over a mile, in which she has finished 221) have all been on heavy ground and the form simply doesn't look good enough. Mixed Intention was left in the Guineas at the forfeit stage but looks like running in the Prix de la Grotte, so perhaps she is heading for the Pouliches: her form with Etive this year (in two separate races) suggests that she is only a length or two behind Moonlight Cloud (strictly on the form book), but I wouldn't take that too seriously since Etive was almost certainly flattered to finish so close in the Prix Imprudence...
|
|
By:
The only horse Rod Collet haas sent over in the last 5 years is Saphresa and he got 2 wins out of her both at Newmarket and he stated he was either going Grotte/Pouliches or 1000 Guineas with her so he obviously rates her.
There'll be worse outsiders for sure and I don't think Makfi qualified form wise last year. |

Morning all.
Over the past 5-10 years the 1,000 has arguably been the best AP race if you are willing to back up to 3 or 4. This year has been the most difficult during that period with no stand-out 2 year-old, changes in running plans and now doubts about the going (I take the complete lack of information from Coolmore pretty much for granted). Sometimes you just have to accept that events have gone against you, this might be one of those cases. Anyway a lot can still happen in the next week ![]() |
|
By:
I agree, but even so, Makfi did win his trial (the Prix Djebel) impressively by 3 lengths (travelled well, quickened, won easily) and had shown a lot more by this stage than Nova Hawk has done so far. On all known form, I'll be surprised if she's anywhere near good enough.

So this thread hardlies gave Moonlight Cloud a mention with her form played well down when she was, Havant wasnt considered until I pointed out she was on this thread, the first post advised against backing Memory due to bad value (20s). That's looking like the first 3 in the betting come the day ffs.
Great thread. |
|
By:
Eric 1000 Guineas book:
Havant @12/1 (half stake laid off can't get rid of the rest despite trying, possible NR) Memory (written off by himself after her flop in Ireland yet somehow in the book) Moonlight Cloud @8/1 (the epitome of 'backed late' as waited for a trial and got on after all the good prices had gone) Now fk off and come back when you've got something worthwhile to contribute, there's a good chap |
|
By:
I have the first 3 favs who will all start at around half the price they are. Half my stake laid off Havant at around 13/2 keeping the rest in case she runs.
This thread has been poor to be honest re putting you off certain horses (first 3 favs) and onto others who havent made it. No coincidence your foresight has been on display. A late 10 quid at 22s Moonlight Cloud doesnt repair that fact. You are in denial as usual. |
|
By:
Since when have you backed Memory
- can find plenty of posts where you say you don't fancy her but none where you say you have backed it?![]() |
|
By:
We have some money in the market for Havent know, someone is confident it will run.
|
|
By:
Don't worry, when an outsider wins eric will have been on that too, as he claimed to be on Virginia Waters a few years back (after she won, of course). That time, sadly, he was rumbled as he couldn't say who he'd got the price with.
People should just act as if he doesn't exist and carry on the threads without him. He'll go away eventually. |
|
By:
Don't forget Stoute was similarly pessimistic about Russian Rhythm and she drifted out from 4/1 to 12/1 in the weeks leading upto the race - didn't stop her winning.
