With regards Natagora and Special Duty and the possible price of Moonlight Cloud it would be amiss not to mention that both those horses won the Chevely Park the year before and as such were known to the UK betting public and the UK horse racing establishment.
Their form as Group 1 winners was widely known and as such will have had high levels of press interest and will have been widely tipped.

Moonlight Cloud is a different story.  Obviously us hardcore fans are well aware of her achievements and have sought out the videos/watched her 'live'.

Very few people with a degree of influence will have seen her win, (some may have seen her lose to Wootton Bassett).  Even less will have seen her in the flesh until 20 minutes before the Guineas.

The fact that the French have a good recent record will count for her in the pre race hype but it pays to be cautious regarding the latent and casual bias against 'foreign' racehorses.  You cannot underestimate the effect familiarity has on the market in races like this.  Makfi anyone?

She might even end up drifting!

And I still can't have Memory.  Lack of prep a big one but the last time it showed worthwhile form in this context was 7th July over 6 furlongs?

That's an awful long time ago in relation to 2 to 3 yr old horses.

Latest progress report on Hooray (courtesy of Marcus Townend):

'Trainer Sir Mark Prescott is increasingly optimistic that Hooray will be able to take her chance in the Qipco 1,000 Guineas.

The trailblazer, whose victories in the Lowther, Sirenia and Cheveley Park Stakes made her Europe's top two-year-old filly, had not thrived over the winter and last month Prescott, mindful that Hooray's family have tended to show their best form in their juvenile season, issued a downbeat bulletin of her chances of making Newmarket on Sunday week.

However, Prescott has seen positive signs in the 16-1 shot, whose Cheveley Park Stakes form was boosted when runner-up Rimth landed the Fred Darling Stakes at Newbury.

The trainer said: 'It depends how she gets through this week but it is more likely that she will run now than it was two weeks ago. By Saturday, I should have a good idea. She was not eating well but she is doing better now, although still not as much as I would like.'

David Johnson's (Timeform) reflections on the 1000 Guineas trials (published today):

'The major fillies' trials in the last week have merely muddied the waters with regards to the 1000 Guineas. Neither Barefoot Lady (110) - successful in the Nell Gwyn - nor Rimth (109) - who took the Fred Darling - is entered at Newmarket.

What those two races did do, however, is confirm the strength of Hooray's Cheveley Park win. She had Rimth four and a half lengths behind in second that day, with Nell Gwyn third Maqaasid a further length and a quarter back in third.

Hooray's rating of 121 for that win is 5 lb above the average achieved by the winner of the 1000 Guineas over the last five seasons. However, there remain doubts over Hooray's stamina for the May 1 classic, while her trainer Sir Mark Prescott has also reported that she's been slow to come to hand.

A filly that enhanced her Guineas claims recently is Moonlight Cloud, who won the Prix Imprudence at Maisons Laffitte on April 7 by two lengths from Helleborine. In what was an above-average renewal, Moonlight Cloud earned a figure of 112p. Although she had the advantage of dictating, she was well on top at the finish.'

i think the final decs for the guineas are out on the 19th April, with most of the fancied runners not having a run, there could be an awful lot of free running sorts on view, i have a strong feeling Hooray will be one of them. cheers.

It's the forfeit stage today.  The confirmation of entry stage (with any supplementary entries) is on 25 April, followed by final declarations later that week.

I've never had a doubt that Hooray would run. Any negative from Prescott is a positive for punters.

It certainly looks like being a much more intersting race than the 2,000 Guineas thats for sure - all these positive vibes starting for other horses means it could be 5/1 the field after all.

I really think the ground will be key - if it's really fast the front runners or those that race very handily will be extremely hard to peg back (Attraction / Ghannati type races). With Hooray likely to go trailblaze I can see the more stoutly bred types like Lush Lashes and Havant struggling to land a blow.

30 fillies were left in at yesterday's forfeit stage:
Blue Bunting, Cape Dollar, Cochabamba, Elshabakiya, Empowering, Havant, Hooray, I Love Me, Immortal Verse, Izzi Top, Ladies Are Forever, Laughing Lashes, Look At Me, Majestic Dubawi, Make A Dance, Maqaasid, Memory, Misty For Me, Mixed Intention, Moonlight Cloud, Nova Hawk, Nova Step, Show Rainbow, Soraaya, The Shrew, Together, Traffic Sister, White Moonstone, Wild Wind, Zoowraa.

The main absentee is HelleborineCry.  Other notable fillies that have been taken out include Brevity, Chrysanthemum, Eucharist, Handassa, Khawlah, Pontenuovo, Rainbow Springs, Sing Softly, Theyskens' Theory and Zaminast.

Aidan O'Brien has five possible runners headed by Misty For Me.  Godolphin have left in Blue Bunting (a middle distance prospect) and Zoowraa (more likely to run in the French Guineas), as well as their main fancy White Moonstone.  John Gosden still has Izzi Top and The Shrew (neither good enough surely) as well as Maqaasid.  Mick Channon still has three.  Several French fillies are still engaged (Immortal Verse, Mixed Intention, Moonlight Cloud, Nova Hawk, Nova Step), but surely Moonlight Cloud is the only of those five with a realistic chance.

It still looks a very competitive race, with all the main contenders (bar Helleborine) still engaged.

Aidan O'Brien had several entries in this Sunday's Prix de la Grotte but he has taken them all out, so we're no nearer knowing which one(s) he may be aiming at the French Guineas and which ones are more likely to turn up at Newmarket.  All his fillies ran disappointingly at Navan the other day and I just get the impression that, with a few exceptions, his three-year-olds are simply not firing at the moment.

jamessp, dont you think its rather strange there has been nothing coming out of ballydoyle regarding the wellbeing of their horses?

was misty for me entered sunday?
By:
jamesp
When: 20 Apr 11 18:39
No, Misty For Me was the only one of his better fillies not entered in Sunday's race, which I take as evidence that the filly is definitely being aimed at Newmarket, whereas the others are all under consideration for Longchamp.  Odd that none of them are going for the Longchamp prep race though.

jamesp, there was a paucity of O'Brien runners in France last year in comparison to previous years, nearly none of his horses were fielded in trials.  IIRC it was pretty much Group 1 or nothing re:  his horses in France last year.
Definite change in policy, whether it was forced by lack of good horses or was a conscious decision, who knows.

I think Aidan o'brien got a light hearted wrap on the knuckles for having a site last year to keep people updated on his runners. It didn't last long after he was told to use the Coolmore site to post updates, which i think were stopped pretty quickly.

Thanks for asking I was first in on news Havant was Guineas bound (as posted on here at the time I let JamesP know he wasnt aware) and got the best price which lasted less than 2 hours. You probably missed it but at least you have your Helleborine bet to keep your book going. Have a great price Moonlight and Memory first 3 favs at v good prices compared to the day. Maybe next year you wont mess up we can always dream you might get it right one day.

No 10 quid at 22/1 doesnt interest me jair1970.

I have a fantastic set of positions in the 1000 all to decent stakes (to win more than your bet to get the shopping in).

My 2000 bets are well covered I am virtually certain to win on the race and perhaps a decades shopping in your bets terms.

I'd like to apologise to anyone who clicks on this thread in the hope of finding some interesting points or insight about the 1000 Guineas and has to wade through the garbage that constitutes eric_morris's auto-fellating conversations with himself.

My book?

Moonlight Cloud 22/1 and 14/1
Nova Hawk between 50 and 80/1 (bits n pieces)
Hooray 16/1
Theyskens Theory 20/1
Helleborine 11/1

I imagine it looks fairly similar to a few other peopl's on here.
Only position taken before christmas was Thyskens's and that was shot some while ago.
Was happy with the Moonlight Cloud / Helleborine line and not all that surprised to see half of that go down but happy enough that Moonlight Cloud will acquit herself well enough.  Nova Hawk is interesting, if she shows and there's no way Hooray could be left out of the mix, for all that she may be a sprinter and have less improvement in her than others.  Anyone who wonders why:  Confidential Lady PMU.

Really not keen on Memory who's prep is all wrong and good form is very old now

Eric Morris on Horse Racing Ante-post/Cheltenham etc Fora, is the current incarnation of perhaps the most preposterous poster anywhere. He too is given to heroic last minute trades, directly at odds with previously strongly argued positions in order to get out in profit (often 6 figures!), despite never posting an actual bet before an event. He is utterly incapable of getting anything wrong and has, to my knowledge, never had a losing bet. Anyone who disagrees with him is a 'stalker', to whom he will attribute imaginary statements, obviously without any evidence to back them up, which he then attempts to discredit. He labours under the misapprehension that he has then 'proved you wrong' - a peculiar obsession of his that gives an indication of his overall insecurity. On the rare ocassions that he does tip up a winner (without actually admitting to having placed any actual money on the beast), he then crows from the rooftops that he is some kind of guru and all should worship at his alter, clearly oblivious to the fact that even a blind dog will pi55 up the odd lampost.
He is great fun though and we would miss him over there if his Mum ever banned him for any length of time. That said, there is no shortage of contenders for Forum Idiot waiting in the wings Cry

Desmond Orchard, I told him Celestial Halo was very poor value at 10s the Arkle and why in detail which he blustered aggressively about on a thread I started pre season until he was blue in the face. The highest rated hurdler is the one to be on for the Arkle he exclaimed, a couple weeks later Celestial Halo after blundering his way around and fulfilling my prophecy was declared not to be suited to fences by connections and returning to hurdles.

He lost a lot of face due to his aggressiveness with me on that only to be proven badly wrong and me spot on. He will never forgive me that his head is well lodged up his own @rse re antepost ability. Not my problem, his problem.

Proved him badly wrong when he challenged my judgement.
