Yep sounds like Criqutte will try to avoid MC in future so glad I backed her at 8/1 on Monday (posted on Plats thread).
Still have a nagging suspicion something will beat her at Newmarket, but it's amazing how weak Misty For Me is .. 18/1 on here currently, and i'd not rule out Together either despite her in and out profile, as she had a very similar 2yo campaign to Lily Langtry. 60/1, here. |

After last years draw bias farce i wouldn't rule anything out.

By:
surely freddie should persuade his owners that m. cloud comes to nkt.
it is not unknown for a filly to contest both races as special duty and the greatest 1m filly of all time, imo, miesque. |

Moonlight Cloud the English 1000 Guineas there for the taking.
Also Helleborine must have a much better chance of winning the French 1000 Guineas based on Madame Head's comments. Could be a family across the sea Guineas double up. |
By:
George Strawbridge owns her and there was a bit of a farce with the Luca Cumani filly before.
By:
I must say, I am a bit surprised by Criquette's comments. She knew before the Imprudence that Moonlight Cloud was a smart filly and yet she indicated that in principle Helleborine would go to Newmarket so long as she ran well (which she did). Oh well, we'll know soon enough what they decide to do. I still think that Helleborine has a good chance of reversing the Imprudence form if, as the trainer hinted afterwards, she wasn't as fit as the winner.
By:
I'm not surprised, she had said Helleborine was working nicely before the Imprudence. That doesnt sound like a horse with a lot to come on from it sounds like a horse ready.
Helleborine has an excellent chance in the French Guineas but not the English Guineas imo. Moonlight Cloud will be a strong favourite at Newmarket as Havant hasnt run whereas Helleborine would be a rag at around 20s. |
By:
She said after the race that Moonlight Cloud was a fitter horse than Helleborine, i.e. she didn't have Helleborine anywhere near 100% fit. Working nicely doesn't mean she was being asked any serious questions in her home gallops. If Helleborine comes over for the Guineas she won't be anything like 20/1, she'll be more like 10/1.

jamesp.Pricewise logic looking better as time goes by.Helleborine, not sure to run.Misty on the drift. Some negative comments about Memory. The form boost from Sir reg.20/1 what price do you think I love me will be on the day?
By:
Working nicely can only be construed as fit by someone like Eric Morris. I mean, for goodness sake, to assume she was ready to win is deep, deep pocket talk. And I say that now having backed Moonlight Cloud.
By:
There is no way Helleborine was fit, no matter how much you want MC to win!

I Love Me needs to improve a bit to get competitive in the Guineas, but I certainly wouldn't rule her out - she did, after all, run very well in the Rockfel (a key Guineas trial). The two fillies that finished in front of her in the Rockfel (Cape Dollar and Cochabamba) are entered in the Fred Darling at Newbury on Saturday, so we may have a better idea of her chance after that.
The Nell Gwyn result appears to have little relevance for the Guineas, with the winner Barefoot Lady not even entered for the Guineas. I thought Maqaasid looked much the best filly in the race, but she didn't get home and probably needs to be dropped back to 6f. |
By:
Agree Nell Gwyn looked average, Moonlight Cloud by far the most impressive trial winner so far.
By:
7/1 Moonlight Cloud looks way too big. I know there is still the doubt about her running, but if confirmed she surely goes off 3/1 or shorter.
By:
Agree that price is way too big she won with quite a bit in hand .... surely goes off Guineas fav at 3s or 7/2.
By:
Come Friday night I doubt you will get 300 on All Time anymore - looking forward to seeing this one.
By:
Kieren Fallon got a 10 day ban for dropping his hands at Kempton this evening. Will miss the Guineas meeting although he is likely to appeal.
By:
Flagship2, I too am looking forward to seeing the debut of All Time, reputedly Henry Cecil's best three-year-old filly, but she's starting off over 10f so it must be highly doubtful that they would wish to drop her back to a mile (for the Guineas), even if all goes to plan at Newbury on Friday...
By:
I agree. Surely if it was going to be a Guineas filly, would have started in the 7f fillies maiden tomorrow.
Anyway this family in general has flattered to deceive, never quite being top class. And if no rain at Newbury, underfoot conditions likely to be too quick to show it's best |
By:
There are just four absentees from the Fred Darling field (the three that ran in the Nell Gwyn plus Soraaya), leaving 14 declared runners headed by Cape Dollar, Cochabamba, Pontenuovo and Rimth.
Havant has suddenly weakened a bit in the betting (last matched at 10.5). She's owned by James Wigan (racing manager to George Strawbridge, owner of Moonlight Cloud), though I don't suppose that has anything to do with it. |
By:
That's a big drift, was 7.2 here yesterday. But I am not surprised, as she is very short for what she has actually achieved, imo, by comparison to others who have Group 1 form. She is also unproven on Good to Firm going.

I really thought Princess Banu would go in the other day. She looks like she could be a horse worth keeping an eye on to me. I won a shed load backing her Dam back in the day at decent odds. She was one of my favourite horses of that time with the right conditions. I think his 2yo horses aren't running great first time out but he is doing OK with his 3 year olds and older. He has some nice looking two years olds to me as well but it's very early in the season as yet. She just hosed up in a decent maiden at Newmarket at a decent price ![]() . I knew she was looking good in what I though was Channon's better group of two year old fillies. That means he has a really nice unraced 2yo called Nayarra that could be his best 2yo and really worth keeping an eye on.Sorry for going off topic. |
By:
Well spotted, cruise d. I too like to try and spot the better Channon juvenile fillies and Nayarra is one to look out for. Nicely bred too - by Cape Cross out of the useful Massarra (beaten a neck in the Gr.2 Prix Robert Papin as a juvenile, second in the Nell Gwyn at three), a daughter of the top class Rafha (dam of Invincible Spirit, Kodiac et al). Massarra's previous offspring have been nothing special, however.

He has been breezing it on the gallops with Music Show and it looks a nice prospect. Richard Hughes is booked. He is the go to jockey for Channon now for his best horses after he fell out with Fallon and Moore in spring/early summer last year. So the booking is quite interesting to me. This horse runs today in the 3.15 Newbury, not tomorrow. Will be well worth keeping an eye on IMO. From memory it's only entered in the Irish 1000. On breeding it looks a miler and I wonder what they will do with if it runs a blinder today over what looks its maximum trip on breeding. Will be worth keeping an eye on, Majestic Dubawi flopped and he's taken Soraaya out tomorrow so Channon might be eager to talk the owners into supplementing should it run a cracker today. I wonder if he's withdrawn Soraaya because it's not ready? I think it's likely that the running of Show Rainbow in the Nell Gwynn has given Channon enough of a sighter to know that Soraaya has enough class to go straight for the Guineas and skip the trial. |

A WOEFUL Crop of 3yr old fillies this year so far....
Hopefully a few diamonds in the rough.....wrote the whole 1000 Guineas off as a Group 2/3. A horrible renewal |

Lot to like about Stella Point's debut there if not from a Classic perspective.

Ruby. what a ridiculous statement to make, the flat season has only just started, i can't wait for more of your insights. cheers.

One of THE most ridiculous and premature posts EVER. Imo.

although premature to write them off(and i certainlt am not),i can see where ruby is coming from,at this moment in time there dont seem to be a stand out filly or two

With the exception of the French fillies (Moonlight Cloud and Helleborine), the top fillies are not contesting the traditional trial races this year. But we'll see what the Fred Darling produces this afternoon. It's possible that one of today's runners will be forward enough (or will have improved enough) to put up a reasonably impressive performance. Cape Dollar has very solid claims and should like the ground, but Cochabamba wasn't far behind her in the Rockfel and shouldn't be ruled out. Rimth and Pontenuovo had very good 6f form last year but it remains to be seen whether they can improve for the step up in trip.
Roger Charlton's comments on Pontenuovo: "Pontenuovo has nearly come in her coat and seems fresh and well and it will be interesting to see whether she handles the fast ground and the step up in trip as her best performances were over 6 furlongs. She has been relaxed in her work and I think todays race should suit her but as I am still learning about her." Paul Cole on Rimth: "Rimth is heading for the Fred Darling Stakes at Newbury, a course where we’ve had some good times. We think she’ll get the 7f, and although the run will be needed to blow away the cobwebs, we hope she has the class to put up a fight." |

While its premature i know and while many of the posters are working hard to find angles in to make profit on this race....i believe this is a very poor 1000 guineas at this current moment of time.
I am looking a unexposed horses to improve lots such as Zoowraa Havant Chrysanthemum But these are all big if's....i personally think the 1000 Guineas will be a very bad renewal with many of the unexposed horses above heading towards to the Oaks. Horses like White Moonstone and Misty for me didn't for me look to have much progression |
By:
Their is a few in the Irish Guineas that are interesting i give you that....but all one raced unexposed and wont race at Newmarket.
By:
Someone will have to explain to me what a weak renewal is. This phrase gets banded about every season. Surely very few very good horses come out of any classic with some exceptions maybe.
By:
1000 Guineas is such a difficult classic to weigh up in terms of depth and strength because fillies are so hard to get right so early in the season. One day they haven't come in the coats next few days they starting to and it makes a world of difference if their going to run or not.
I really liked Ghannati year with Rainbow View and Cuis Ghaire but their again was very little in behind. She was much the best on the day racing up front of a good pace( if i remember correctly) and then went on to win at Ascot easily and run 3rd against all ages at goodwood. I think the Oaks will be a very good race as their looks to be plenty of very decent unexposed middle distance fillys but the pure milers from what i can see don't look anything above average. I could well be wrong but with the market struggling to make anything clear favorite its very hard to find it remotely as exciting as say the 2000 Guineas |

Big boost there for the form of Hooray, who hammered Rimth and Sharberry (first and second in this afternoon's Fred Darling) last season in the Cheveley Park Stakes. Obviously, there is a doubt about Hooray getting the mile, but if she does get the trip she will surely take all the beating in the Guineas.
As for Rimth, she is not entered in the Guineas (like the Nell Gwyn winner Barefoot Lady) and she has a very speedy pedigree, so there must be a big doubt about her getting the mile. On the other hand, she didn't appear to be stopping today over 7f, so who knows. |
By:
Comments on Rimth: last year Paul Cole said "She's as fast as I've had for a while". Jocket Tadgh O'Shea said: "She's got Queen Mary written all over her. She's very fast and very speedy. She is the fastest two-year-old I've ridden". After today's race Paul Cole said: "The jockey [Christophe Soumillon] thinks she'll stay a mile but he feels the French Guineas might suit her better than Newmarket. It'll be up to the owner though."
By:
Obvious boost for Hooray, Prescott still keeping his cards close to his chest though think we all know she will be going to the English 1000.
By:
An ever better boost for Memory !
By:
Rimth reminded me of the Ralph Beckett horse who won the race last year. Anyway, she quickened nicely but wont be winning the Guineas.
By:
I'm even more annoyed by Majestic Dubawi's poor run a few days ago now. In the G3 she won at Ayr lasy year she had both of the trial winners behind beating Barefoot Lady into 3rd and Rimth finished 7th some 4 and a half lengths back. On the bare form of that race Majestic Dubawi should be in with a shout in 2 weeks. Fillies are so annoying, she probably hasn't trained on, there is a chance that the race at Ayr was freak result or she may have just been a long way from fit the other day.
All the same it's just another frustrating AP bet down the toilet because by hook or by crook she has gotta improve 2lbs a day from the time of her last race to the Guineas . |
